Reducing weed Beltana $3209 The community is seeking to have a more strategic approach to reducing the impact of weeds in the area by spraying North Flinders infestations in Progress weeds as soon as germination occurs after rain events. The current approach relies on individual community members, and around Association providing equipment and consumables and removing seeds . By purchasing community owned equipment we can increase Beltana the number of residents prepared to participate in the reduction of weeds and respond more readily to rain events. By reducing invasive plant species and specifically within the town common which is not grazed biodiversity conservation will improve. The town common and several badly infected sites in the local creeks outside the town common will be targeted.

Copley Botanic Copley & $5170 The Copley & Districts Progress Association (CDPA) has the vision to develop the area next to the Copley Tourist Bay into a North Flinders Garden – Stage Districts Botanic Garden where community members and tourists can: see native plants indigenous to the area named and explained; learn how some of the native plants were and are used by the people;a nd discover how we all 1 Progress can contribute to the protection of our local fauna and flora

Threatened Ecological $10,000 Reintroduce locally extinct numbats and western barred bandicoots into the refuge and allow the public the chance to see Gawler Ranges species Horizons Pty them (or their tracks, digs or burrows) when they visit. As part of a translocation proposal for both species in consultation reintroductions Ltd with DEW, Arid Recovery and the numbat recovery team, funds will be used for the reintroductions including to Mallee radiotransmitters, cage traps and camera traps for monitoring the population after release. Refuge

Environmental Friends of $4041 This project will involve monitoring the water quality, fish populations, Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies and habitat in and North Flinders monitoring and Vulkathunha- around three springs: Weetootla and Yuwanhinya springs (in V-GRNP) and Nepouie spring on Wooltana station. protection of Gammon areas provide important refuges for native wildlife in the arid Northern . The monitoring will use a habitat refuges Ranges combination of sampling and motion-activated cameras over an extended period, to continue and extend existing in the Gammon National Park monitoring for these areas. Ranges Inc.

Control of wild GR Biteback $9923 Expand the community-shared equipment available in the Gawler Ranges Biteback group to for reducing wild-dog Gawler Ranges dogs in the Group numbers. The money will be distributed between the purchase of wildlife camera’s, trapping equipment, manufactured wild Gawler Ranges dog baits and a trapping workshop to improve the trapping skills of the community.

Wirti Valki Aunty Enice $8450 The Wirti Valki (bushland) project seeks support for the production of a book entitled Wirti Valki Common Plants for the North Flinders Common Plants Marsh and Commons, the result of 3 years collaboration between Aunty Enice Marsh Adnyamathanha Elder and Virginia Lee Oratunga Station leaseholder and landscape researcher over a number of field trips where we recorded stories and traditional and for the Virginia Lee contemporary plant uses, image collections and samples of plant communities across the diverse landscapes of the hills and Commons salt lakes Flinders Ranges country. The intent of the book is to provide an illustrated field guide concerning the wise use of plants for many useful purposes, as well as for the landscapes that support them, to share Aboriginal knowledge and ways of managing the land to promote common indigenous plant understanding and protection.

Pest animal Litchfield $9549 This project will aim to identify the most successful way for organic properties to carry out baiting programs for wild dogs Marree- control Pastoral and cats. USDA NOP certification does not allow 1080 baits to be laid on the property. This project will investigate the use Innamincka of exclusion fences to create designated areas (enclosures) for baiting so that the property can meet its minimum baiting enclosures Company requirements but remain USDA NOP certified.

Investigating Nature $10,000 The aim of this project is to attain an enhanced understanding of the population dynamics of the nationally threatened Marree- population Foundation Thick-billed Grasswren (TBGW) subspecies, Amytornis modestus raglessi. This species has a limited range, confined to only a Innamincka few pastoral stations within the arid region of . This includes Witchelina Nature Reserve where majority of dynamics and Limited TBGW surveys have been undertaken and where population declines have occurred over the last decade. The project seeks declines of the to investigate whether populations of TBGW have undergone similar declines on neighbouring pastoral stations, and if so, threatened determine the potential causal factors (e.g. grazing pressure from domestic and native species, drought, predation by pest Thick-billed species). Grasswren

Control of pest Pichi Richi $7990 Pest weeds are an ongoing management issue for PRRPS both from a rail safety/operation perspective, and land manager Port Augusta - weeds in the Railway duty of care to control noxious species. This project proposes to control pest plants in the railway corridor including: African Quorn Boxthorn; Bathurst Burr; Horehound; Cactus (inc. Prickly Pear); Salvation Jane; Caltrop; Wards weed; Onion weed; Skeleton railway corridor Preservation weed; Paddy melons; and Peppercorn Trees. The weeds are spread throughout the railway corridor, but several clusters of of Pichi Richi Society Inc concern have been identified. Fast response is important to limit risk of transport of seeds and plant material via train Railway operations. This project will hope to achieve control or eradication depending on the species and extent of growth..

Native Perennial Quorn $10,000 The Council and local Landcare group will explore the commercial potential of native perennial species (with a focus on Port Augusta- Grass Landcare grasses and shrubs) in the local region, in the face of a changing and unpredictable climate. Many local farming businesses Quorn rely on income from annual crops and pastures which are becoming less productive in dry periods. A transition to native Production Group and FR perennial species would help to improve biodiversity values and protect vulnerable soils from wind and water erosion. This Demonstration Council project will set up/establish a trial site and showcase perennial grass species suitable for planting in small agricultural Site settings in the Quorn region.

Bite back group Gawler Ranges $1045 The project involves the purchase of a 500 litre freezer for the purpose of storing injected baits. The Gawler Ranges Wild Gawler Ranges 18 Freezer Wild Dog Dog Group 18 has been an active group with most members attending at least one of the two injection services. The freezer would be available for use by all members of the group, located on Wilkatana Station These properties are Yadlamalka, Group 18, Narcoona, Emeroo and Mundallio Stations. Partacoona Station has also participated in baiting in the SA Arid lands portion Wilkatana of the property. Having frozen injected baits available all the time enables a prompt and specific baiting to happen when Station, dog activity is seen without the necessity of sourcing meat and then getting it injected. This can be as a group or individually depending on the activity.

Pepper Tree Sawers Farms $5329 Control of an infestation of Pepper Trees (approximately 250 trees) along a 5km stretch of Depot Creek on Wilkatana Gawler Ranges eradication Pty Ltd Station. This species is a priority target weed in the Gawler Ranges NRM district Weed Management Plan. They are becoming problematic as they outcompete other native plant species and affect water flow down the creek. This project project along follows on from previous control works. A contractor will be engaged to do the works using herbicide spray. Depot Creek

Algebuckina Trevor $10,000 This is stage 2 of The Peake Station Flood out restoration Project. The project will be used a trial of soil conservation works Marla- Waterhole Williams in the Neales catchment using innovation soil conservation techniques which work with the landscape rather than trying to Oodnadatta control the landscape processes. Protection project Stage 2

Pepper tree and Yeltacowie $4135 This project would control athel pine and pepper tree on Pernatty Station with the aim of eradication. These species are Gawler Ranges athel pine Pastoral identified as priority target weeds in the Gawler Ranges NRM district Weed Management Plan, A contractor would be employed to control the weeds to minimise the amount of time and money required to combat them in to the future. The eradication dead athel pine and pepper tree frames will be left in the landscape where they will act as natural structure which can be program at utilised as habitat for fauna. Pernatty Station
