Jamin is an Alaska-based nature photographer who specializes in hunting Alaska’s diverse avifauna through the lens of his camera. Ring-necked ducks breed throughout much of Alaska and often congregate into large flocks during fall migration. Unlike most other diving ducks, ring-necked ducks are frequently found in relatively small, shallow ponds and wetlands. The appropriateness of the bird’s common name (and scientific name “collaris”) is often questioned because, in the field, the neck ring is rarely visible. However, in hand it becomes obvious that males of the species do exhibit a chestnut-colored collar at the base of the neck. Despite their name, the species is more easily identified based on their pointed head shape and white ring around the bill. The State of Alaska is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Signed: 2 Abstract This thesis investigates the lives, movements and performances of dancers in a Romanian urban folk ensemble from an anthropological perspective. Drawing on an extended period of fieldwork in the Romanian city of Timi şoara, it gives an inside view of participation in organised cultural performances involving a local way of moving, in an area with an on-going interest in local and regional identity. It proposes that twenty- first century regional identities in southeastern Europe and beyond, can be manifested through participation in performances of local dance, music and song and by doing so, it reveals that the experiences of dancers has the potential to uncover deeper understandings of contemporary socio-political changes. This micro-study of collective behaviour, dance knowledge acquisition and performance training of ensemble dancers in Timi şoara enhances the understanding of the culture of dance and dancers within similar ensembles and dance groups in other locations. Through an investigation of the micro aspects of dancers’ lives, both on stage in the front region, and off stage in the back region, it explores connections between local dance performances, their participants, and locality and the city. -

Soundtrack It’s always a long way to home, even longer on this dreary night. I am alone except, I suppose, for the company of my music, the songs playing randomly from the playlist. The night glides by in perfect darkness, only the car’s headlights tethering me to this world. The melodies of the passing soundtrack conjure up images of broken hearts, urban wastelands, other roadways. Life is a Highway comes to an end, then a mere second of silence, to be replaced incongruously by I Wanna Hold Your Hand. The jangle of the music jolts me, and without thought I find myself !transported back in time.! I am riding on a bus, not a school bus, but a city bus. This is a big deal for me. I’ve learned the route from home to my new school. I recognize many of the faces of the passengers. I know the bus driver, who is always the same, who always gives me a smile when I climb up the stairs !on my ten year old legs. I sit half-way down the bus and I am feeling pretty grown up.! Oh, I’ll tell you something! I think you’ll understand! When I say that something! !I wanna hold your hand! This is the soundtrack of my ride, running through my head in an ever repeating loop as I gaze out the window at the city going by. I know, quite self-consciously, that it is important. I under- stand its significance, for it is the first rock ’n roll song I have adopted as my own. -
I Am Writing Today to Ask the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) to Pass Strong Statewide Rules That Prioritiz
I am writing today to ask the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) to pass strong statewide rules that prioritize public health, racial justice, the environment, and wildlife. Colorado’s communities have had to bear the consequences of adverse impacts from oil and gas development for too long. Oil and gas drilling is also harmful for the lands, waters, and wildlife in the surrounding areas. I respectfully request that you adopt the strongest possible rules in order to fulfill your new mission. Homes, communities and schools need to be protected by reasonable setbacks from oil and gas operations. No community or person should be considered disposable or be suffering from predatory drilling practices -- equitable rules must be put into place. The same applies to critical wildlife habitat, such as riparian areas. I’d also like to urge you to consult with expert agencies, like Colorado Parks and Wildlife to ensure that wildlife is protected. Additionally, the cumulative impacts of oil and gas development on greenhouse gas emissions must be addressed. We need rules that will meaningfully address climate change and advance the state forward in achieving its goals set forth by HB20-1261. Ohebnost zvuku ve filmové tvorbě Davida Lynche Ann Kuznetzova Bakalářská práce 2020 ABSTRAKT Tato práce se zaměřuje na analýzu zvukové tvorby Davida Lynche, především filmové, na příkladu jeho audiovizuálních děl Mazací hlava, Příběh Alvina Straighta, Inland Empire a jejich srovnání. Zabývá se způsobem ztvárnění idejí a určením charakteru zvukové tvorby Davida Lynche. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, do jaké míry je podstatná a v čem spočívá její určující dominantní vlastnost – ohebnost, a také prozkoumat vliv jiných druhů umění, osob, prostředí a událostí, které tvůrce dovedly k vlastnímu uměleckému sebevyjádření prostřednictvím zvuku. Obsahuje také rozhovor se zvukovým inženýrem Johnem Neffem, který se podělil o svoji zkušenost ze spolupráce s Lynchem. This thesis examines David Lynch’s creative process and establish the essence of his sound design. The aim is to determine wherein lies – and how major of a role plays – the dominant characteristic of David Lynch’s work, its versatility, as well as to explore how the environment, society, and different fields of art influenced the filmmaker in his own artistic expression through the language of sound. To further help answering those questions, an interview with a sound engineer, John Neff, was conducted, in which he talked about his experience of collaborating with David Lynch on several projects. -
