Lesson Structure

Introduction/ warm-up (Connection and Activation) With timings Differentiation (Extension/Support)

Student-Led Warm up- Get students into group of 5 and challenge them to create their own 10 mins - Create a warm-up which increases heart-rate warm-up which involves a skill in cricket - Introduce rules of the game

Main (Development/ Application) With timings Differentiation (Extension/Support)

Activity 1: Hit the target Extend 15 mins - Decrease the distance of the scoring zone Children will be split into groups of 4 with one bat, and one windball/tennis ball per group. Set - Feeders can bowl the ball towards the batters up 2 cones, roughly 15-20m apart and 15-20m away from the batsman. Children’s roles include a - Batters will have 1 pt taken away everytime the ball goes into the feeder, a batter, a keeper and a fielder. The feeder will throw the ball underarm to the air (main focus is to keep the ball on the ground) batter who will aim to get the ball between the cones to score 1 pt. The wicket weeker will stand Support behind the stumps to receive the ball if it goes behind the batter and the fielder must retrieve - Increase the size of the scoring zone the ball and give the ball back to the feeder. Feeders will deliver the ball to the batter for 1 over - Batters can use a batting tee to hit the ball off of (6 balls), after each over players swap roles.

Progression: 15 mins Allow players to run between the wickets every time they hit the ball through the scoring zone - Extend: Key Coaching Points: eyes on ball, face of the bat pointing towards scoring zone. - HA pupils are encouraged to try to hit the ball into spaces away from fielders Activity 2: Running between the wickets. Support: For this activity, the group should be divided into groups of 5, with one ball, one bat and 2 cones - LA pupils can hit the ball from a tee rather than from a feed from per group. There will be 2 batters, 1 wicket keeper, 1 fielder and a bowler. The bowler bowls a bowler if they are struggling to make contact underarm and the batters hit the ball and then make a decision about whether to run between the wickets, calling either “Yes!”, “No!”. Communication is key for this activity and if a pair fails to make a call before running, they will be out and a new pair of batters take their place. Each pair faces 10 balls each and 1 point is scored for every successful run. If a batter is caught, they 15 mins lose 1 point. Discuss when we should and shouldn’t run between wickets. What are the Extend: triggers? - HA pupils must bowl overarm - HA pupils only score when they hit the ball Activity 2: Mini Cricket - HA pupils encouraged to try a variety of different shots (sweep, Divide the class into groups of 5 in abilities. Each group will have a set of stumps, a bat and a pull, straight drive – see visual aids)

ball. There will be one batter, one bowler, one wicket keeper and 2 fielders. The bowler Support: can bowl underarm or overarm depending on ability and the batter must hit the ball for the - LA pupils score 2 points for every ball they hit fielders to retrieve. Each batter has 10 balls and scoring is as follows:

- 1 point = for every ball faced without getting out - 1 point = for every time the ball is hit - -2 for getting out (caught/bowled)

Rotate roles so that all children have a turn in each position.

Plenary
