GENERAL POLICY This report covers the period from August 1, 2008 through July 31, 2009. ABC Radio Los Angeles Assets, LLC, licensee of KSPN-AM (“KSPN”), and Radio Disney Group, LLC, Licensee of KDIS-AM (“KDIS”) (collectively, the “Stations”) have a longstanding commitment to a policy of equal employment and advancement opportunities for all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, covered veteran status, mental or physical disability, pregnancy, or any other basis prohibited by state or federal law. This commitment to fair employment practices applies to every aspect of the employment process to ensure that equal consideration is extended to all employees and applicants in recruitment, selection procedure, employee development, performance evaluation, promotions, transfers, benefits and other aspects of employment. It is KSPN’s and KDIS’s policy to promote the realization of equal employment opportunity through a positive, continuing program of specific recruitment, outreach, hiring, promotion and other practices designed to ensure the full realization of equal employment opportunity. II. RESPONSIBILITY Chris Berry, Vice President and General Manager of KSPN, is the EEO officer at KSPN responsible for the administration and implementation of our Equal Employment Opportunity Program and the accuracy of the information documented in this report. Natalie Eig, Station Manager of KDIS, is the EEO officer at KDIS responsible for the administration and implementation of our Equal Employment Opportunity Program and the accuracy of the information documented in this report. III. INTERNAL RECORD KEEPING, PUBLICITY AND POSITIONS FILLED In compliance with EEO rules, the Stations have widely publicized all full-time job vacancies throughout the reporting year. All such vacancies, whether at KDIS (which does not have its own website) or at KSPN, were posted on the KSPN website, 710ESPN.com. In addition, all such vacancies were posted on The Walt Disney Company websites disneycareers.com and/or disneyjobs.com, as well as (for ESPN jobs) on the ESPN career website espn.com/joinourteam; on the California Broadcasters Association (CBA) and Southern California Broadcasters Association (SCBA) websites; and in the SCBA job bank newsletter, which in turn is transmitted electronically to a group of schools and organizations listed on Attachment “A”. EEO Report – 8/1/09 1 of 52 KSPN and KDIS also maintain a distribution/contact list of local community-based organizations and schools to which notices of all available full-time positions are sent. The Stations’ local distribution/contact list is included as Attachment “B”. This list is updated periodically. The Stations have asked interested organizations to notify the Stations if they wish to be placed on the Stations’ local distribution/contact list. During the reporting year, organizations for the Stations’ mailing list were solicited through a combination of a notice on the KSPN website, periodic on-air announcements, and a classified advertisement in the Tolucan Times on March 18, 2009. In addition, all KDIS job openings are also posted on Direct Employers, a non-profit consortium of leading U.S. corporations that pick up postings and send them to various alumni and diversity organizations. The Direct Employers distribution/contact list used for the KDIS opening during this reporting period is included as Attachment “C”. The following are the positions filled for the Station during the period of 8/1/08 to 7/31/09: KSPN National Sales Manager Date position was open: 03/12/08 Date position was filled: 8/3/08 To fill this vacancy, KSPN utilized all of the standard recruitment and outreach measures described above. Nine candidates were interviewed. Referral sources of the candidates interviewed were as follows: SCBA – 3; Internal Candidate - 2; Industry and Employee Referrals – 4. The candidate hired was an Internal Candidate, for whom this represented a promotion from KSPN Account Executive. Account Executive Date position was open: 08/5/08 Date position was filled: 9/15/08 To fill this vacancy, KSPN utilized all of the standard recruitment and outreach measures described above. Three candidates were interviewed. Referral sources of the candidates interviewed were as follows: SCBA – 1; espn.com/joinourteam -1; Industry and Employee Referrals – 1. The candidate hired was referred by the SCBA. Vice President/General Manager Date position was open: 10/6/08 Date position was filled: 12/23/08 To fill this vacancy, KSPN utilized all of the standard recruitment and outreach measures described above. Seventeen candidates were interviewed. Referral sources of the candidates interviewed were as follows: SCBA – 4; Industry and Employee Referrals – 6; employees of other present and former Disney-owned stations – 3; espn.com/joinourteam – 4. The candidate hired was the General Manager of former Disney-owned station WMAL(AM) Radio. EEO Report – 8/1/09 2 of 52 General Sales Manager Date position was open: 11/25/08 Date position was filled: 3/23/09 To fill this vacancy, KSPN utilized all of the standard recruitment and outreach measures described above. In addition, KSPN posted this position with monster.com, hotjobs.com and AM/FM Jobs. Eight candidates were interviewed. Referral sources of the candidates interviewed were as follows: SCBA – 1; espn.com/joinourteam – 2; Industry and Employee Referrals – 1; employees of other present and former Disney-owned stations - 3; monster.com – 1. The candidate hired was an employee of former Disney-owned station KABC (AM) Radio. Account Executive (2 positions) Date positions were open: 1/27/09 Date positions were filled: 4/8/09 To fill these vacancies, KSPN utilized all of the standard recruitment and outreach measures described above. In addition, KSPN posted these positions with monster.com and hotjobs.com. Seven candidates were interviewed. Referral sources of the candidates interviewed were as follows: SCBA – 2; Industry and Employee Referrals – 5. The two candidates hired were both Industry and Employee Referrals. Account Executive Date position was open: 1/27/09 Date position was filled: 4/27/09 To fill this vacancy, KSPN relied on the posting done for the two account executive positions listed above. Six candidates were interviewed. Referral sources of the candidates interviewed were as follows: SCBA – 2; monster.com -1; Industry and Employee Referrals – 2; employees of other present and former Disney-owned stations – 1. The candidate hired was an employee of former Disney-owned station KABC(AM) Radio. KDIS Account Executive Date position was open: 08/21/08 Date position was filled: 11/24/08 To fill this vacancy, KDIS utilized all of the standard recruitment and outreach measures described above. In addition, KDIS placed a classified “help wanted” ad in the Tolucan Times on 8/27/08 and in TolucanTimes.com and monster.com. Nine candidates were interviewed. Referral sources of the candidates interviewed were as follows: SCBA – 1; Disney online – 3; Internet Job Search – 2; Disney employee referral – 1; Internal Candidate – 1. LONG TERM RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES KSPN and KDIS are committed to performing at least four of the long-term EEO recruitments set forth in the FCC’s EEO rules within a two-year period. From August 1, 2008 through July 31, 2009, KSPN and KDIS participated in the following long-term recruitment initiatives: A. Participation in Job Fairs – KSPN and KDIS participated in the following job fair by staffing a booth with company personnel responsible for hiring decisions, distributing information about careers in radio, soliciting applications, informing attendees of job postings and encouraging them to go to school and participate in internships, collecting resumes, and answering questions: • AEG/Los Angeles Kings Sports & Entertainment Career Fair at the Staples Center – October 20, 2008 – attended by Alicia Lee Barber, Business Manager for KSPN and Natalie Eig, Station Manager for KDIS • AEG/Los Angeles Kings Sports & Entertainment Career Fair at the Staples Center – March 16, 2008 – attended by Chris Berry, VP and General Manager for KSPN and Natalie Eig, Station Manager for KDIS • Operation Confidence Job Fair – at Los Angeles Valley College – May 20, 2009 – attended by Andres Astralaga, Human Resource Director for ESPN and Natalie Eig, Station Director for KDIS • Operation Confidence Job Fair at West LA College – May 21, 2009 – attended by George Flora, Local Sales Manager for KSPN and Natalie Eig, KDIS Station Manager B. Internship Program – During this reporting period KSPN established a new internship program designed to provide college students with the opportunity to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment while obtaining course credit. Curriculum for the internship program is as follows: ESPN Overview, Production Training, Production Assignments, Beginning Producer Skills, New Media Training, Shadowing Marketing, Sales and Reporters, Show Assignments. Our current internship program started on 6/23 and will end on 8/14/09. Our interns are each working approximately 15 hours a week. Here is a list of our current interns: • Karlo Sy Su comes to 710 ESPN as a senior from Cal State Fullerton. Karlo is a resident of Walnut Ca, and found out about the 710 ESPN Internship while attending a seminar on campus on “How Not to Get A Job in Broadcasting” hosted by 710 ESPN program director Larry Gifford. Karlo’s major is communications and he hopes to utilize the skills learned here at KSPN to one day land a position as a play-by-play announcer. • Diana Maria Griffin comes to 710 ESPN as a double major in journalism and history from Cal State Fullerton and is looking to expand her knowledge of the media business by learning all aspects of how a radio station runs.
