Signed by the Cleveland Indians to a minor-league contract on 5/15. • Made his first appearance of the season with Triple-A Columbus on 5/14 • Was released by Cleveland on 6/18 and signed as a minor-league free agent by the Arizona Diamondbacks on 6/20. • Had his contract purchased and made his Arizona debut on 8/24. Went 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in five appearances (four starts) for the Diamondbacks. • Made two starts for ARI, 8/24 vs. STL and 8/29 at OAK prior to being optioned back to Reno on 8/29. Was recalled by ARI for the final time on 9/8 and made three appearances (two starts) the remainder of the season. • Posted a 3.22 ERA while going 7-6 in 20 minor league starts between Columbus and Reno. • Lasted at least 6.0 innings in 14 of his 20 minor league starts, 11 of which were 7.0-plus inning efforts. • On 9/27 at SD, made his first appearance out of the bullpen since 7/23/10 at PHI. Chacin’s Career Highlights CHACIN 2014: Had an injury plagued season that resulted in him making just 11 starts at the Major League level... Began 2014 on the DL (right shoulder strain) before being reinstated on 5/4...Placed on DL again on 6/30 (right shoulder inflammation) and would spend the remainder of the season on the DL...His 11 starts and 63.1 innings pitched were his lowest in any of his five full Major League seasons (since 2010)...Made his season- debut on 5/4 vs. NYM, and went 5.0 innings and allowed four runs as the Rockies lost 5-1...His first quality start of the season came in his next time out on 5/9 at CIN as he allowed two runs on four hits over 6.0 innings (ND)...Did not allow more than four runs in each of his first seven starts but the Rockies scored 10 combined runs of support in those starts (2.33 RSA)...His first and only win of 2014 came on 6/12 vs. ATL as the Rockies won 10-3 and he went 7.0 innings of shutout, two-hit baseball...Took the loss in his next three starts before being placed on the disabled list on 6/30...He was later transferred to the 60-day DL on 7/4 through the end of the season...On 6/12 vs. ATL, he became the seventh pitcher in franchise history to hit the 500 strikeout mark in a Rockies uniform, joining Ubaldo Jimenez, Pedro Astacio, Jeff Francis, Jorge De La Rosa, Jason Jennings and Aaron Cook...He was the 141st active pitcher to join the 500 strikeout society...With his start on 5/9 at CIN, he made his 100th career start, all with the Rockies...He became the ninth Rockie to have ever started at least 100 games and 95th active pitcher with at least 100 starts. 2013: Set career highs in wins (14) and innings pitched (197.1) while starting a career-high-tying 31 games for the Rockies...Compiled a 14-10 record with a 3.47 ERA (76ER/197.1 IP) and 19 quality starts...Placed on the disabled list on 4/20 with a left lower back strain and was reinstated on 5/5...His 31 starts were tied with teammate Juan Nicasio for most starts while his 126 strikeouts led the team...Became the third-youngest Rockie pitcher to open the season as the team’s Opening Day starter at the age of 25 years and 84 days old and went 6.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts in the no-decision at MIL on 4/1...David Nied in 1993 (24 years, 104 days) and Jason Jennings in 2003 (24 years, 258 days) were the only other younger Opening Day starters over the franchise’s 21 Opening Days...Forced opponents to ground into 30 double plays, the second-most by an NL pitcher, trailing only Adam Wainwright (32)...Twenty of those came at Coors Field, which led all pitchers for GIDPs at home...In the first “half” of the season, established a career-best five-game winning streak (6/11-7/4)...During the streak that spanned five games, he tossed 34.1 combined innings and allowed just eight runs (2.10 ERA) and 30 hits...Became the second Rockies pitcher that season to have a five- game winning streak (De La Rosa, 5/7-6/2)...Set a new record for the longest a pitcher has taken a no-hitter in a game at Coors Field on 8/28 vs.

    The Boston Red Sox Wednesday, July 1, 2020 * The Boston Globe College lefties drafted by Red Sox have small sample sizes but big hopes Julian McWilliams There was natural anxiety for players entering this year’s Major League Baseball draft. Their 2020 high school or college seasons had been cut short or canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They lost that chance at increasing their individual stock, and furthermore, the draft had been reduced to just five rounds. Lefthanders Shane Drohan and Jeremy Wu-Yelland felt some of that anxiety. The two were in their junior years of college. Drohan attended Florida State and Wu-Yelland played at the University of Hawaii. There was a chance both could have gone undrafted and thus would have been tasked with the tough decision of signing a free agent deal capped at $20,000 or returning to school for their senior year. “I didn’t know if I was going to get drafted,” Wu-Yelland said in a phone interview. “My agent was kind of telling me that it might happen, it might not. Just be ready for anything.” Said Drohan, “I knew the scouting report on me was I have the stuff to shoot up on draft boards but I haven’t really put it together yet. I felt like I was doing that this year and then once [the season] got shut down, that definitely played into the stress of it, like, ‘Did I show enough?’ ” As it turned out, both players showed enough. The Red Sox selected Wu-Yelland in the fourth round and Drohan in the fifth.

Her scholarly interests center on colonial Latin-American literature from New Spain, specifically the 17th century. Using the case of the Spanish colonies, she explores the birth of national identities in hybrid cultures. Another scholarly interest is the genre of Latin American colonialist narratives by modern-day female authors who situate their plots in the colonial period. In 2013, she published Llámenme «el mexicano»: Los almanaques y otras obras de Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora (Peter Lang,). She also has published short stories.
