No era el més conegut dels germans Young -Angus i Malcom són famosos per formar part d'AC/DC http://www.acdc.com( ) -, però va ser una peça clau per entendre el so del grup dels seus propis germans -va ser el productor de discos com Let There Be Rock, T.N.T o High Voltage- i també va ser un dels músics més transcendents de la història de la música moderna australiana, de la qual n'és considerat un dels grans compositors. En aquest aspecte, Young destaca per ser el coautor d'èxits tan indiscutibles a nivell planetari com Friday On My Mind, que va interpretar amb la seva pròpia banda, o Love is in the air i Yesterday's Hero, dos grans hits que va interpretar John Paul Young. George Young va néixer el 1946 a Glasgow i als 17 anys va emigrar amb tota la seva família a Austràlia, on va fer-se famós com a guitarrista de The Easybeats. La desfeta del grup l'any 1969 no va aturar la seva trajectòria musical, sinó més aviat tot el contrari. Albert & Son Pty Ltd (Alberts) in response to the ALRC’s “Copyright and the Digital Economy” Discussion Paper As Managing Director of Alberts , I welcome the opportunity to respond to the Discussion Paper. Alberts’ view Alberts is a family-owned company established by my great-great grandfather in 1885, the main business of which is the creation, protection and exploitation of music copyright. In its early days, Alberts’ copyright interests tended towards acquisition of local rights for overseas musical works. That changed in 1964 when Alberts established Albert Productions, an enterprise with the express purpose of being a developer and (in due course) exporter of music copyrights. Alberts went on to work with some of Australia’s most significant artists and writers including the Easybeats, the Angels, Rose Tattoo, John Paul Young and AC/DC. In association with Alberts, AC/DC has gone on to become one of the most successful rock bands of all time, and helped Alberts become a net-exporting Australian copyright owner. Alberts is a member of the following Australian copyright collecting societies and trade associations: AMPAL, APRA|AMCOS, ARIA and PPCA. I am aware that a number of these organisations, together with the Australian Copyright Council, have tendered submissions to the ALRC. Alberts is broadly supportive of those submissions and the information contained within them. Rather than restate their position, my aim is to provide a perspective from an independent family company that is actively engaged in the music business.

Tu svoji nejsem schopen časově zařadit. Moje vzpomínky na tuto příhodu jsou zamlženy alkoholovým oparem whisky, který mi nakonec vymazal z hlavy onen pochmurný večer. Byla to další z mnoha sobotních nocí, kdy jsem se ptal sám sebe, jak jsem se mohl ocitnout v neuklizeném pokoji vlhkého, odporného, sute- rénního bytu v centru australského Sydney, když jsem tak dlou- ho míval vše: pohodlný domov na předměstí, šťastnou rodinku, krásnou ženu, a dokonce i vychrtlého psa z útulku s neposed- ným ocáskem. A nyní mi nezbývalo nic jiného než třídit černé ponožky, abych nějak zabil čas a dostatečně se unavil, abych mohl jít v klidu spát – bez obav, že se probudím ve čtyři ráno a nebudu moci usnout. Jestliže vzbudit se ve dvě ráno znamená pro čerstvě rozvedeného muže pocit osamění, pak prožít totéž ve čtyři ráno už je něco naprosto nesnesitelného.
