  • Introduction
GSG S 1550 Introduction On behalf of the Trustees, we are pleased to present this, the fifth annual report of the Archbishops’ Council. 2003 was a year when the Council had to grapple with a very wide range of issues: the employment status of clergy; the training and formation of clergy and lay ministers; the legal framework for reviewing dioceses and parishes; the shape of the Church’s mission; how its national financial resources are used; building the Church of the future through educating and involving children and young people; how the Church of England relates to other Churches; a strategy for the use of our 16,000 church buildings, half of which were constructed before the Reformation. All of these – and more – were considered by the Council during the year. The workload has at times been challenging. The Council is grateful for the support it receives from its staff and from the staff and members of its Boards, Councils and Divisions. It is they who bear the brunt of tight deadlines and heavy workloads in preparing the way for the Council’s own considerations and those of the Synod. Without them, we should not have achieved a fraction of what has been achieved since the Archbishops’ Council was established just over five years ago. We are happy to commend this report, which details the variety of work undertaken on behalf of the Archbishops’ Council. We continue to pray that together we may be able to build on what has already been achieved and to meet with confidence the challenges that lie ahead.

  • Nyheter Frodig Og Begeistret Kirkeleder

  • Diocese in Europe Prayer Diary, July to December 2011
DIOCESE IN EUROPE PRAYER DIARY, JULY TO DECEMBER 2011 This calendar has been compiled to help us to pray together for one another and for our common concerns. Each chaplaincy, with the communities it serves, is remembered in prayer once a year, according to the following pattern: Eastern Archdeaconry - January, February Archdeaconry of France - March, April Archdeaconry of Gibraltar - May, June Diocesan Staff - July Italy & Malta Archdeaconry - July Archdeaconry of North West Europe - August, September Archdeaconry of Germany and Northern Europe Nordic and Baltic Deanery - September, October Germany - November Swiss Archdeaconry - November, December Each Archdeaconry, with its Archdeacon, is remembered on a Sunday. On the other Sundays, we pray for subjects which affect all of us (e.g. reconciliation, on Remembrance Sunday), or which have local applications for most of us (e.g. the local cathedral or cathedrals). Some chaplains might like to include prayers for the other chaplaincies in their deanery. We also include the Anglican Cycle of Prayer (daily, www.aco.org), the World Council of Churches prayer cycle (weekly, www.oikoumene.org, prayer resources on site), the Porvoo Cycle (weekly, www.porvoochurches.org), and festivals and commemorations from the Common Worship Lectionary (www.churchofengland.org/prayer-worship/worship/texts.aspx). Sundays and Festivals, printed in bold type, have special readings in the Common Worship Lectionary. Lesser Festivals, printed in normal type, have collects in the Common Worship Lectionary. Commemorations, printed in italics, may have collects in Exciting Holiness, and additional, non- biblical, readings for all of these may be found in Celebrating the Saints (both SCM-Canterbury Press).

  • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. Retired Derry bishops receive freedom of the city Catholic bishop Dr Edward Daly and his Church of Ireland counterpart James Mehaffey were praised for their cross community leadership. They were honoured by the council as ‘leaders of our society’. The recipients’ successors, Bishop Ken Good and Bishop Donal McKeown, were also in attendance, along with leading figures from the civic life. It was a doubly historic occasion, with the formal presentation being made by the last ever Mayor of the city, Councillor Brenda Stevenson. Bishop Mehaffey told the meeting that he was a Freeman of the City of London, “but being a Freeman of the City of Derry means so much more”. CHURCH OF IRELAND PRESS OFFICE Church of Ireland House, 61 – 67 Donegall Street, Belfast BT1 2QH www.ireland.anglican.org http://twitter.com/churchofireland Tuesday 17 July 2012 From The Most Revd Alan Harper, Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland and co-signatories as listed: Dear Secretary General, We refer to the continuing plight of the residents of Camp Ashraf/Liberty and wish to express deepening concern about the worsening humanitarian situation confronting many defenceless people. We are particularly alarmed by recent reports of a press conference recently held by high ranking officials of the State Department of the United States of America in which it appeared that the residents of Ashraf and the leadership of the PMOI were threatened with armed intervention risking a potential massacre on or after July 20 2012. We strongly condemn the threat of force or the use of force directed towards the people of Camp Ashraf whose status as refugees has been recognised by the United Nations. We therefore call upon you, Secretary General, and Secretary of State Clinton immediately to intervene. Iraq must be pressed to abide by its international obligations and accord full respect to the human rights of Iranian refugees in Iraq. It is wholly inappropriate to blame the victims of oppression for the crimes of their oppressors as appears to be the position adopted by the two high ranking US officials. We note that a similar rationale was offered for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, on the grounds that it is appropriate that one man should die on behalf of the people.
