These include broadcasters, producers, animators, studios, facilities and other organisations supporting the sector. The Federation has a number of objectives designed to support Ireland’s audiovisual production and distribution industry. These include promotion of the sector, representing the views of members to relevant bodies and submitting the industry view on relevant policy. The Audiovisual Federation maintains an economic database for the Irish audiovisual production sector and publishes the results in an annual report with an economic analysis on the benefits of the audiovisual sector to the Irish economy. In order to sustain the growth and development within the sector during the last number of years the Federation has sought internationally competitive financial incentives and international co-production treaties. Together with Enterprise Ireland the Federation organises conferences, seminars, and workshops on relevant audiovisual issues. The Audiovisual Federation is a member of the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC) and is affiliated to ICT Ireland - The Voice of Technology within IBEC. The talent in Ireland is vital, exciting and original. The continued existence of this talent base is vital if the children's industry is to continue to produce quality programming and quality animation." Christopher Skala SVP, HIT Entertainment Ltd, Executive Producer – Wobblyland Christopher Skala "The city of Dublin is a big character in the film ONCE and shooting on the streets of the city centre was a great joy. The cast and the crew became a little family unit during the three weeks of the shoot and we were so welcomed by the general public every day. The Irish Film Board were at all times supportive, the crew assembled around us were very professional and highly skilled, yet we always managed to have a lot of fun and became good friends. The spirit of the whole production was as warm as the reception the film has since received." Martina Niland, Producer – Once Martina Niland "When RTÉ commissioned the two part drama 'Single Handed', Touchpaper had no previous experience of filming in Ireland but the welcome we received from all quarters couldn't have been warmer, and the epic Connemara landscape where we filmed was an impressive backdrop for the drama. But crucially, as Touchpaper's first venture in Hi Def, Ireland was the only place with the skills base to steer us through so surely and we're particularly pleased to be invited back for more adventures on the West Coast and Dublin in the Autumn of 2007." Clare Alan, Producer – Single Handed Clare Alan "THE TUDORS is a much larger undertaking than any of the previous movies shot for us in Ireland: not only is it a full ten episode series but it is the most expensive series that Showtime has been involved with. Nevertheless our trust in the Irish creative staff and crew again paid off creatively and financially. The scope of the show - in terms of construction, wardrobe, locations, set dressing, animals, extras, and visual effects - shows clearly in the completed series and proves to Showtime that Ireland was the right place for such a huge project." Melinda Benedek, Ex Vice President of Bus Affairs, Showtime - The Tudors Melinda Benedek "We’ve been filming shows (and ladies changing rooms on the sly) in Ireland for about 10 years now. Ah, sure everyone loves working in Ireland; all the great talent and beautiful locations. But the real reason we work over here is because we’re banned from leaving the country for the foreseeable future. Otherwise we’d film all our shows in Rio. Mind you, it would be harder to find D-list Irish celebrities over there." Podge & Rodge Podge & Rodge "Shooting in Kerry was a fantastic working experience. The people of Dingle were enthusiastic and supportive throughout our time there. The stunning landscape of the Dingle Peninsula added great production value to the series. It opened our eyes to the benefits of shooting in regional areas of Ireland. It also gave us the opportunity to work with TG4, which was a fantastic experience and one we would hope to repeat." Rebecca O'Flanagan, Producer - The Running Mate Rebecca O’Flanagan "As a filmmaker working on location in Ireland, I find one of the biggest advantages is the support and openness of the Irish people to the film industry. As a rule, they are incredibly accommodating and co-operative. It makes working in Ireland a real joy!" Pat Shortt - Killinaskully, Garage Pat Shortt "Financed entirely by funders from all over Ireland, North and South, our experience of making Kings from sourcing funding to last day of post-production was enlightening and rewarding in all aspects. Ón uair gur scannán dátheangach a bhí i Kings bhí sé thar a bheith deacair maoiniú a fháil dó, agus níl aon amhrais, mar sin, gurb é Sound and Vision, de cuid an BhCI, bunchloch mhaoiniú an scannáin seo. Thug an Scéim deis dúinn dul i mbun léiriúcháin agus an togra a chuir i gcríoch." Public broadcast organisations must adopt novel strategies to survive and compete in this new environment, where they need to combine public service with popularity. In this context, scheduling has emerged as the central management tool, organising production and controlling budgets, and is now the driving force in television.
