The £56m first phase of Great Yorkshire Way opened on 29 February 2016. It provided a new, three-mile link from Junction 3 to the A638 Bawtry Road and since opening it has been used for more than 14 million GREAT journeys. It was funded with contributions from private RUNWAY sector companies including The Peel Group and the YORKSHIRE public sector. INVESTMENT The road has played a huge role in making the Airport WAY easy and stress-free for our passengers to get to. It has also helped to bring new airlines and routes to DSA with our main airlines, Flybe, TUI and Wizz Air, now totalling More than 14 55 routes. The road has contributed to stimulating million journeys over 1,400 new jobs and almost 1,000 new homes and congestion has been reduced for local residents.

The final £11m phase has also provided additional cycle and pedestrian facilities linking new residential areas and the development area surrounding the Airport to existing routes and the town centre.

IT IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF HOW TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE HELPS UNLOCK INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIVITY, NEW HOUSING, TOURISM, COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND PEOPLE’S ABILITY TO MOVE AROUND. Through a £6m investment, the surface of our 2,891 metre long runway has been doubled in thickness, increasing the strength and overall life span of the runway surface for present and future operations.
