2018-19 SEASON SERIES

Tuesday, October 16, 2018 – Flyers 6, Florida 5 (SO) at Wells Fargo Center: scored in the third round of the shootout to lift the Flyers to the 6-5 win over the Panthers. Florida started off the scoring with 2:02 left in the first period on a goal by Frank Vatrano, but Weal, Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds each tallied in the first 8:50 of the second period to turn that into a 3-1 lead. Vatrano struck again with 7:29 left in the second, but after that came two more Flyers goals – a second each for Giroux and Simmonds – to give the Flyers a 5-2 lead. But the Panthers were eventually able to tie the score on a late second period goal by Aleksander Barkov and third period tallies from him and Evgenii Dadonov. In the shootout, Jake Voracek and Barkov tallied in the first two rounds, setting the stage for Weal’s winner. Brian Elliott started and made 19 saves on 23 shots through 45:06 before stepping aside for Cal Pickard, who took the win with two saves in 19:54 of action and two saves in the shootout. Michael Hutchinson stopped 21 of 26 in the loss. Stars of the Game: 1 – Claude Giroux; 2 – Aleksander Barkov; 3 – Wayne Simmonds.

Jake Voracek got the Flyers on the board 3:55 into the third, but despite outshooting the Panthers 17-6 in the third, the Flyers couldn’t get anything else past Roberto Luongo. The Panthers netminder stopped 30 of 31 bids on the evening, while Brian Elliott absorbed the loss with 28 saves on 30 Florida shots. Stars of the Game: 1 – Evgenii Dadonov; 2 – Aaron Ekblad; 3 – Jake Voracek.

Saturday, December 29, 2018 – Florida 2, Flyers 1 at BB&T Center: An early goal from Shayne Gostisbehere stood up until the final seven minutes of the game, when Florida scored twice to steal the win. Gostisbehere scored off a feed from Jordan Weal 1:45 into the first period; there was no further scoring thanks to more than 30 saves by Carter Hart until Mike Hoffman finally found the back of the net on a power play with 6:44 to play in the third. That set the stage for the game-winner from Jonathan Huberdeau with 1:06 left. Hart absorbed the loss despite 34 saves, while James Reimer stopped 34 as well in the win. Stars of the Game: 1 – Jonathan Huberdeau; 2 – James Reimer; 3 – Carter Hart.
