EDUCATION: THANK YOU, University of London, BSc (Hons); Cardi™ University, MB ChB, LLM; Royal College of Surgeon of England, FRCS (Tr&Orth) ORTHOPAEDIC TRAINING: MR. PAUL Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Programme (BOTP) ALBRECHTSEN I had long decided to do a Fellowship at Pan Am because of its reputation, somewhat prematurely according to my colleagues. I must confess I had not OCT 14, 1930 – JUL 7, 2019 even looked up Winnipeg on the map to see where it was and those who knew about it had only one thing to say about it, its winter. I joined the Fellowship programme in January 2019 soon after my wife Nadia gave birth to our second son Yaccub in December 2018. When I arrived, the temperature had dipped down to -50º C and then I realised what all the fuss was about. Well at least it was dry cold, right! After the bitter cold start, I knew things could only get better. The warm reception from Dr. MacDonald and all the sta made up for this. I had heard good things about the Fellowship, and these were turning out to be true, to much of my relief. The clinical and surgical experience is what I was yearning for and I had a great time learning with Dr. Peter MacDonald, Dr. Jamie Dubberley, Dr. Jarret Woodmass and the colleagues. At the beginning of my placement I attended the Fire & Ice gala dinner held to raise funds for Pan Am Clinic Foundation, and I then realised what a unique place Pan Am was and how Pete had developed it over the years, making it a leading surgical and research centre at national and international levels. I then had the opportunity to attend a Pan Am Fellow’s meeting, a very welcome relief from punishing winter and a chance to defrost in the Arizona sunshine.
