Thank you to everyone who has commented on the new style magazine, it seems to have been well received.

We have decided to publish bi-monthly. This makes financial sense and means we can focus on making a high quality magazine. Our first bi-monthly magazine will be the October issue. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see in your new Brundish and Wilby Magazine, please get in touch.

The idea of a 100 club has also been met with enthusiasm, we have decided on a monthly prize of £50 as we hope this will be more enticing! We will be knocking on front doors over the next few weeks to encourage everyone to join!

The big news in Brundish has been our pub’s application for change of use to a residential dwelling. There has been great strength of feeling that everyone wants to keep the pub as a pub. We all need to work together with Mario and Lesley to make sure the pub thrives, it’s their future and ours.

We hope you all look forward to the next issue, our first bi- monthly magazine.

LETTER FROM THE RECTOR

Dear Friends, As summer draws to a close and we start looking ahead to harvest celebrations and the many festivals leading up to Christmas, this month marks the start of the new academic year; children will be starting school, others moving up a year and many will be starting vocational training. Among this last group are two people from our Benefice, Rebecca Artiss and David Mulrenan. Rebecca and David have for many years been exploring with the church their calling to Ordained ministry, that is to say, to the priesthood. I am very pleased to say that this exploration culminated in an interview with Bishop Martin a few weeks ago during which he said one word which has a life changing effect; it was ‘Yes’. So, these two people will start their training this month, for them and us, it is a new beginning, and all being well, they will be ordained as Deacons sometime next year, either Petertide or Michaelmas. Their training will continue until at some time in the future they will ordained as priests. For those of you who don’t know Rebecca, she is an elder at St Peter’s Church, Monk Soham. She teaches mathematics and (trust me) she is a gifted musician along with her brother Tim. She comes from a long-established church family who, I think most will agree, are the mainstay members of that Church. David is an elder at St Lawrence’ church Brundish, he is a member of the choir and has also lead the worship as an elder in other parishes within the Benefice. He has for many years been a prominent figure in Brundish and has worked hard for the community. He is employed as a teaching assistant in Framlingham.

Rebecca and David deserve our support and our prayers as they go forward into this new phase of our Christian community, please keep them in your prayers With my prayers and best wishes, Ron

Wilby Parish Council votes to oppose the closure of The Crown in Brundish!

A special meeting was held on 16 August 2017, attended by 18 members of the public many of whom were from Brundish, to consider an application from the owners of The Crown for change of use from public house to a dwelling. Council heard many views from those present all of whom spoke against the closure. The Council decided to oppose the application in the light of the widespread public opposition, because it was at variance with relevant planning policies and guidance and because of shortcomings in the Planning statement and Application Form. Wilby is pleased to have been able to support Brundish in their attempts to prevent the loss of an important local amenity, used also by Wilby residents.

Several other planning applications were considered at the meeting and a Council response agreed.

The next meeting of Wilby Parish Council will be held in the Coronation Hall at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 6 September 2017. All are welcome to attend.
