Defensive Starters THIRD QUARTER ● Senior quarterback Clayton Thorson surpassed 9,000 career passing yards with an 18-yard ​ DE #97 Joe Gaziano 19 completion to Riley Lees on Northwestern’s first drive of the second half. ​ ​ ○ Clayton Thorson is just the second player in Big Ten history with at least 9,000 career ​ DT #99 Jordan Thompson 30 passing yards and at least 20 career rushing , joining former Ohio State quarterback J.T. FOURTH QUARTER ● Sophomore linebacker Chris Bergin made his ninth tackle and fourth solo tackle of the game in the fourth quarter, besting his previous highs of eight and ​ three, both set against Michigan State on Oct. 6, 2018. ● Senior wide receiver Flynn Nagel hauled in a 61-yard touchdown reception with 12:31 left in the fourth quarter, surpassing his previous longest touchdown ​ reception of 57 yards against Michigan State on Oct. 15, 2016. ○ Flynn Nagel caught two touchdowns in a game for the first time in his career with the grab. He also set his career high for yards in a game with 149 ​ yards at the time. ● Senior Clayton Thorson’s 61-yard touchdown pass to Flynn Nagel was the 52nd touchdown pass of his career, moving him into a tie for 12th on the active ​ FBS Passing Touchdown list with Mason Fine of North Texas. ● Senior Chad Hanaoka brought in his first career reception for 11 yards and a first down in the fourth quarter. ​ ○ Chad Hanaoka was the 12th player to catch a pass from Clayton Thorson in the game, the most players with a reception this season. ​ ​ ​ ● Sophomore kicker Drew Luckenbaugh had his first career field goal make, a 31-yard kick with 2:27 remaining in the fourth quarter. ​ ● First year wide receiver JJ Jefferson caught a 5-yard touchdown pass with 12 seconds left to tie the game from Clayton Thorson. ​ ○ Clayton Thorson set a career high in yards (452), attempts (63), completions (40) on the play. ​ ○ The 99-yard touchdown drive was the longest drive in Northwestern history. ● Senior wide receiver Flynn Nagel caught a 32-yard pass on the game-tying drive in the fourth quarter to move his total on the day to 217 yards, the ​ third-highest single-game receiving total in program history. The record is 226 yards set twice, once by Todd Sheets against Purdue in 1980 and again by Jim Lash against Michigan State in 1972. OVERTIME ● This is the first game of the season Northwestern has gone to overtime. ● Sophomore safety JR Pace made his second interception of the game on Nebraska’s first overtime possession. ​ ○ JR Pace recorded his first career game with multiple and the first for a Northwestern player since Kyle Queiro, also against Nebraska ​ last season on Nov. 4, 2017. ● Northwestern has won five-straight overtime games, dating back to NU’s win over Notre Dame (Nov. 16, 2014).

FINAL NOTES ● Sophomore defensive lineman Samdup Miller finished with 14 tackles. That output was the most for an NU defensive lineman since Loren Howard posted ​ 14 against Duke in 2002. ● Senior quarterback Clayton Thorson finished with 41 completions on 64 attempts for 455 passing yards all of which are career highs. ​ ○ Thorson completed a pass to 12 different receivers, marking the most in his career. The last time a NU quarterback completed a pass to 12 different receivers in a game was when accomplished the feat versus Minnesota on Oct. 11, 2014. ○ His 41 completions are tied with C.J. Bachér for the third-most in school history in a single game and the most since had a school-record 47 completions vs. Auburn in the 2010 … the most single-game completions by a Big Ten quarterback since Indiana’s Ben Chappell had 45 completions on October 2, 2010. ○ His 64 attempts are the fourth-most in program history in a single-game and the most since Mike Kafka had a school-record 78 attempts vs. Auburn in the 2010 Outback Bowl … also the most by a Big Ten quarterback in a single-game this season. ○ His 455 passing yards are the sixth-most in program history in a single game and the most since Mike Kafka had a school-record 532 vs. Auburn in the 2010 Outback Bowl. ● Senior wide receiver Flynn Nagel finished with a career-high 220 receiving yards, the third-most in program history. ​ ○ His 220 receiving yards are the most by a Big Ten wide receiver since 2013, (Illinois’ Steve Hull had 224 yards at Indiana on November 9). ○ Nagel has 622 receiving yards through six games this season, the most by a Northwestern player through six games since at least 2000. ● Sophomore wide receiver JJ Jefferson has caught a touchdown in back-to-back games, he is the first NU true first-year to do so since Eric Peterman in 2005 ​ against Purdue on October 15 and Michigan State on October 22.
