SENATE COMMITTEE ON REHABILITATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES ABC SUBCOMMITTEE - 2018 INTERIM JULY 16, 2018 – 10:00 A.M. 900 EAST MAIN STREET, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA SENATE COMMITTEE ROOM A BRYCE REEVES, COMMITTEE CHAIR BILL DESTEPH, SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIR MEETING SUMMARY I. Call to Order and Opening Remarks Senator DeSteph called to order the second meeting of the special subcommittee (the subcommittee) of the Senate Committee on Rehabilitation and Social Services studying certain Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) laws.1 II. Proposals Related to Quantity Limits on Wine, Beer, and Spirit Samples – Jessica Budd, Attorney, Division of Legislative Services Continuing from the presentation given by David May at the previous meeting on quantity limits on wine, beer, and spirits samples contained throughout Title 4.1 of the Code of Virginia, Ms. Budd outlined several proposals for addressing some of the inconsistencies in sampling privileges among licensees.2 The first proposal focused on the privileges of wine and beer licensees governed by § 4.1-209 of the Code of Virginia. Ms. Budd drew the subcommittee's attention to the fact that there are no daily quantity limits enumerated in § 4.1- 209 on the total amount of wine or beer samples that may be given or sold by the licensees governed by § 4.1-209 to a person in one visit. She explained that subsection D of § 4.1-209 allows (i) persons granted retail on-premises wine and beer licenses, (ii) persons granted retail on-and-off premises wine and beer licenses, and (iii) person granted wine and beer licenses pursuant to subsection B of § 4.1-210 (mixed beverage licensees) to give or sell samples of wine or beer to customers for on-premises consumption.

This issue brought to you by Georgia Senate: The Road to Redemption By Jacob Rubashkin JUNE 19, 2020 VOLUME 4, NO. 12 Jon Ossoff has been the punchline of an expensive joke for the last three years. But the one-time failed House candidate might get the last laugh in a Senate race that has been out of the spotlight until recently. 2020 Senate Ratings Much of the attention around Georgia has focused on whether it’s a Toss-Up presidential battleground and the special election to fill the seat left by GOP Sen. Johnny Isakson. Collins (R-Maine) Tillis (R-N.C.) Polls consistently show Joe Biden running even with President McSally (R-Ariz.) Donald Trump, and Biden’s emerging coalition of non-white and Tilt Democratic Tilt Republican suburban voters has many Democrats feeling that this is the year they turn Georgia blue. Gardner (R-Colo.) In the race for the state’s other seat, appointed-GOP Sen. Kelly Lean Democratic Lean Republican Loeffler has been engulfed in an insider trading scandal, and though Peters (D-Mich.) KS Open (Roberts, R) the FBI has reportedly closed its investigation, it’s taken a heavy toll on Daines (R-Mont.) her image in the state. While she began unknown, she is now deeply Ernst (R-Iowa) unpopular; her abysmal numbers have both Republican and Democratic opponents thinking they can unseat her. Jones (D-Ala.) All this has meant that GOP Sen. David Perdue has flown under the Likely Democratic Likely Republican radar. But that may be changing now that the general election matchup Cornyn (R-Texas) is set.

  • 2015 VOR Report from Virginia This Letter Shared with Our Parents In
2015 VOR Report from Virginia This letter shared with our parents in February 2015 is a report on actions taken by the Administration that thwarted the efforts of our supporters in the Virginia Senate and House during the 2015 session to preserve the Training Center option. The result means the closure of NVTC will happen. Our letter also summarizes the actions and those of the Parents and Associates Board that entitle your loved ones to quality care in the placements you choose for them. NVTC Likely to Close; Your Rights to Quality Care for Your Loved Ones With the 2015 session of the General Assembly scheduled to end on February 28, enough action or inaction has taken place to report where things stand with respect to the future of NVTC and the other Training Centers. The bottom line is that the McAuliffe Administration appears determined to close NVTC, and the General Assembly will take no direct steps to stop it; hence, NVTC is very likely to close. The future of CVTC and SWVTC remains unclear. Despite the likely closure of NVTC, we have accomplished a great deal in our three years of advocacy. As a result, you have legal rights to more residential options than were proposed in the original Settlement Agreement, and assurances from both the Commonwealth and DBHDS that your loved ones will receive care that is “comparable” to that received at NVTC in their new settings. Late last year, Virginia State Senators Newman and Puller, Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn, Bill Murray (the policy director for then Governor-elect McAuliffe’s transition team), and Peter Kinzler met with the Governor and his staff to urge him to keep NVTC and the other Centers open.

We believe it also shows the public cares deeply about education and will support candidates with the ideas and commitment to move us forward.
