Each year, the building is decorated to evoke the feel of the holidays when the hotel opened in 1891. Decorations include fashions of the era, antique toys, elaborate ornaments and numerous Christmas trees, from miniature to more than 14 feet in height. Spiced cider and cookies will be served on the veranda; live quartets will play classical Victorian Holiday music and stop by their Holiday Gift Shop for a special gift. We trim the tree with ornaments keeping memories bright, hide gift-wrapped packages under the bed and plan a glorious feast with well-worn recipes. These rituals usher in this joyous season. Return to the Gilded Age at the 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel, now a National Historic Landmark and home to The University of Tampa and the Henry B. Plant Museum. During the 1880s, Henry Bradley Plant was building an empire of railroads, steamships and hotels. He wanted that empire to have a palace and that palace was the Tampa Bay Hotel – now referred to as Florida’s “first Magic Kingdom.” Today, the museum, located in the south wing of the original Tampa Bay Hotel, features original opulent furnishings and artifacts from the hotel collected by Mr. and Mrs. Plant on several buying trips to Europe and the Orient. The museum transports you through educational exhibits, a 14-minute video and events to the late Victorian period, the beginning of Florida’s tourist industry, and the early years of the City of Tampa. Annual Christmas Candlelight Concert Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 - DeLand Campus
The Stetson University School of Music will present the ever-popular, annual tradition of the Christmas Candlelight Concert and Royal Coach Tours & Cruises has purchased our tickets. Last December we had the privilege to attend this concert and every single person on the bus said they had to have tickets for 2014. As I promised, this special notice is only going out to those who attended last year. With the number of calls that I have already received about this tour, we may have to add a second bus. But there is no guarantee that I will be able to get additional tickets, so book now! “The rich traditions of this concert continue this year with glowing candles and beautiful sacred music performed by Stetson’s choirs, brass, pipe organ, and members of the chamber orchestra,” said Timothy Peter, director of choral activities at Stetson University. “It is an honor to work with our talented students in preparation and rehearsals resulting in a wonderful experience for the audience and performers alike.
