Surely there was more to be said about a series of solo projects which produced some of the best post- Purple tracks out there? RO: I've read a lot of rock bios with a lot of mention of drug use The stories he told are very interesting and addictive and I think he could perfectly write a second part just for the die hard fans like me. Vocalist, bassist and songwriter Glenn Hughes is a living, breathing personification of British rock, and the arc of his career and attendant lifestyle make for a compelling story. Flying the world in Starship 1, the bands own Boeing jet, Hughes enthusiastically embraced the rock superstar s lifestyle while playing on three Purple albums, including the classic Burn. Same thing with Phenomena which is very appreciated by his fans. I get it. Fairly interesting book about Glenn Hughes, more a collection of stories and vignettes than a structured biography. Joel has really done a lot of work and spoken to an awful lot of people, but not enough of it gets into the end product. So we arrive at me picking up Glenn's autobiography. In my opinion he is the voice of rock and roll - so it was with much anticipation that I snatched up this book. Time To Kill - Deep Purple. That's just my opinion. I was impressed and through my friend found Glenn was a man who had walked the dark path of addiction and come out the other end. You can argue that health professionals should be professional and also would treat addiction as a disease but we all know the truth out there - they are generally sick to the back teeth of wasting time and resources on people who simply don't really want to shape up themselves. He is also a fan of video gaming and cinema, and has reviewed a number of games and films as well, old and new alike. For some reason, their style of funk rock suited Houston audiences and crucially, promoters and those gigs were crucial in raising Trapeze's profile. As a fan of the music specifically, this rocker is more into hearing stories about the bands, the camaraderie between musicians, little known projects one might not know about, and so forth. This book is for all Trapeze and Purple fans. I'm also amazed that man is still living. Stock photo. Hughes battled with addiction for much of his life; a struggle him and many of his fellow rockers have shared. I knew about his drug problems but I had no idea how BAD it really was. His recovery story is interesting and I give him credit as he outlines a bunch of slips through his early sober years which he admits were pretty secret and he could have kept it that way but he shares what he did, what he felt at the time and my congratulations to him for doing so. As a personal catharsis of some sort perhaps there is a place for it, but in the interests of balance could we not have had a little more about what it is that interests most Glenn Hughes fans — the music? Along the way he battled crack addiction and cocaine psychosis, before surviving a clean-up-or-die crisis and recovering to rebuild his solo career.
