  • Masculinity and the National Hockey League: Hockey’S Gender Constructions
MASCULINITY AND THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE: HOCKEY’S GENDER CONSTRUCTIONS _______________________________________ A Thesis presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School at the University of Missouri-Columbia _______________________________________________________ In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts _______________________________________________________ by JONATHAN MCKAY Dr. Cristian Mislán, Thesis Supervisor DECEMBER 2017 © Copyright by Jonathan McKay 2017 All Rights Reserved The undersigned, appointed by the dean of the Graduate School, have examined the thesis entitled: MASCULINITY AND THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE: HOCKEY’S GENDER CONSTRUCTIONS presented by Jonathan McKay, a candidate for the degree of master of arts, and hereby certify that, in their opinion, it is worthy of acceptance. Professor Cristina Mislán Professor Sandy Davidson Professor Amanda Hinnant Professor Becky Scott MASCULINITY AND THE NHL Acknowledgements I would like to begin by thanking my committee chair, Dr. Cristina Mislán, for her guidance and help throughout this project, and beyond. From the first class I took at Missouri, Mass Media Seminar, to the thesis itself, she encouraged me to see the world through different lenses and inspired a passion for cross-disciplined study. Her assistance was invaluable in completing this project. Next, I would like to thank my committee members: Dr. Sandy Davidson, Dr. Amanda Hinnant and Dr. Becky Scott. All three members provided insight and feedback into different portions of the project at its early stages and each one made the study stronger. Dr. Davidson’s tireless support and enthusiasm was infectious and her suggestion to explore the legal concerns the NHL might have about violence and head injuries led me to explore the commoditization of players.

  • 2010-11 Panini Set of 364 2010-11 Panini Set of 364 (Loose Stickers)
2010-11 Panini Set of 364 2010-11 Panini Set of 364 (loose stickers) 4 Key Rookie (RC) Stickers Nazem Kadri, Logan Couture, John Carlson and P.K. Subban. Sticker Facts The 2010-2011 NHL Panini stickers collection was marketed mainly in North America. Panini released the product a month into the 2010-2011 NHL season and did not include new players drafted at the 2010 entry draft. We will have to wait for 2011 for Taylor Hall, Jeff Skinner and Tyler Seguin. The North America distributor was Prince Wholesalers (princewholesalers.com). They just sold the cases, you had to order missing stickers directly from www.paninigroup.com in Italy. They strictly enforce the rule that you cannot order more than one of each sticker that you need to a maximum of 40 missing stickers total. This set of 364 stickers were smaller than “card size”. This was yet another breakthrough year for NHL Panini stickers as they finally introduced “fabric” stickers into their set. The 30 team logo stickers were all made of “fabric”. The “All Star” of each team was on a foil sticker. Some of the most sought after stickers in this set are the foils of Sidney Crosby, Mike Richards, Jonathan Toews and Ryan Miller. Considering that you get 400 stickers in a box and there are 364 in a set, it is disappointing when you pull 4 of one sticker from the same box. It should be noted that the “Fabric” stickers and “Super Star” stickers are short prints and were not put into packs at the same frequency as the regular issue stickers.

  • Dobber's 2010-11 Fantasy Guide
DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.
