    FREE LOSSLESS IMAGE FORMAT Jon Sneyers and Pieter Wuille [email protected] [email protected] Cloudinary Blockstream ICIP 2016, September 26th DON’T WE HAVE ENOUGH IMAGE FORMATS ALREADY? • JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, JPEG-LS, JBIG(2), APNG, MNG, BPG, TIFF, BMP, TGA, PCX, PBM/PGM/PPM, PAM, … • Obligatory XKCD comic: YES, BUT… • There are many kinds of images: photographs, medical images, diagrams, plots, maps, line art, paintings, comics, logos, game graphics, textures, rendered scenes, scanned documents, screenshots, … EVERYTHING SUCKS AT SOMETHING • None of the existing formats works well on all kinds of images. • JPEG / JP2 / JXR is great for photographs, but… • PNG / GIF is great for line art, but… • WebP: basically two totally different formats • Lossy WebP: somewhat better than (moz)JPEG • Lossless WebP: somewhat better than PNG • They are both .webp, but you still have to pick the format GOAL: ONE FORMAT THAT COMPRESSES ALL IMAGES WELL EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS Corpus Lossless formats JPEG* (bit depth) FLIF FLIF* WebP BPG PNG PNG* JP2* JXR JLS 100% 90% interlaced PNGs, we used OptiPNG [21]. Revision History This "Digital Still Camera Image File Format Standard" is issued as a standard for the image file format (Exif: Exchangeable image file format) used in digital still cameras and related systems. It was first published in October 1996 as Version 1.0i. Then in May 1997, Version 1.1ii was issued, adding specifications for optional attribute information as well as stipulations relating to format implementation, in addition to the mandatory specifications of Version 1.0. The desire for a uniform file format standard for the image data stored by digital still cameras has increased as these cameras have grown in popularity. At the same time, with the broadening application of this technology, a similar desire has arisen for uniformity of the attribute information that can be recorded in a file. The Version 2.0iii makes improvements to the Exif format for greater ease of use, while allowing for backward compatibility with products of manufacturers currently implementing Exif Version 1.x or considering its future implementation.

    WordPerfect 4.x Versions Richard Wood 1. All of these are closely related versions. Each later version has enhancements over the prior one and slightly improved printer drivers. Memory requirements also increased with each version. WP 4.0 will fit entirely on one 1.44 meg floppy while both 4.1 and 4.2 will not, though all files necessary for full program functionality will. 2. Default for all versions is white characters on a black screen but they can be setup for the WP classic white on blue screen colors, or your own combination. 3. To install on a hard disk, copy all files on the disks to your directory of choice and then, from the directory where installed, run the program with the line WP/S or WP /S. This will put you into setup mode. All setup prompts are pretty much self explanatory if you are familiar with later versions 5.0 and 5.1 or other word processing software. There is no install program as included with version 5.1 and later. 4. These versions do not support a mouse or use of either extended or expanded memory. 5. These versions do not have a graphics mode print preview or any graphics import/use capabilities, they strictly deal with text. Without the graphics mode print preview the only accurate way to see printout results is to do a test printout.
