2021 PBR Unleash The Beast: American Roots Edition PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational Val Verde County Fairgrounds – Del Rio, Texas Saturday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m. CT Sunday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. CT

WELCOME TO TEXAS – For the first time in 25 years, the elite PBR Unleash The Beast will travel to Del Rio, Texas, holding the fourth event of the 2021 season at the Val Verde County Fairgrounds with the PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational February 13-14. The league’s premier series last traveled to the Lone Star State town in 1996, when Jerome Davis won the George Paul Memorial . In the years since, while the Unleash The Beast has not returned to Del Rio, the PBR’s Touring Pro Division has travelled to the city three times, holding sanctioned events in conjunction with the George Paul Memorial from 2005-2007. The PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational will mark the first of three American Roots Edition events held in Texas, slated to stop in Pecos (Feb. 20-21) and Longview (Feb. 27-28) in the following weeks. Action in Del Rio will get underway on both Saturday, February 13 and Sunday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. CT.

DEL RIO’S ROOTS– After a three-event slate in Florida, the American Roots Edition will launch its Texas trio of tour stops in Del Rio, a Texas town that has long been home to one of the most iconic bull riding events in the country – the George Paul Memorial Bull Riding. First hosting the event in 1978, the George Paul Memorial is named in honor of George Paul, a Del Rio native, who was the 1968 PRCA World Champion bull rider, and owns the world record with 79 consecutive bull rides. Paul was a pilot and tragically died in 1970 at the age of 23 while flying between in Colorado and Wyoming. Eight years after his death, Paul’s family organized the first iteration of the now prestigious event, which was won by Denny Flynn. The 43rd annual George Paul Memorial PRCA event is set for April 23-24 after it was canceled in 2020 due to COVID- 19 (coronavirus). Eight bull riders have won the George Paul Memorial multiple times in their career, led by Charlie Sampson, and Trey Benton who have each notched the victory three times. The other multi-time victors of the George Paul Memorial are: Jerome Davis, , and J.W. Harris. Eleven members of the prestigious PBR Ring of Honor have won the event including: Sampson, Flynn, Davis, Sharp, Frost, Hedeman, Bubba Dunn, , Cody Snyder, J.W. Hart and Ross Coleman.

For this weekend’s PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational, two riders who have previously won the George Paul Memorial are slated to compete. Brennon Eldred won the event in 2016, while Cody Teel was the top rider in 2015.

DAVIS SURGES TO NO. 1 – While 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis travelled to the most recent Unleash The Beast event in Florida ranked No. 4 in the world, he used a perfect 4-for-4 performance in both the main event and accompanying 15/15 Bucking Battle to register matching runner-up finishes and surge to No. 1 in the world. In the first 15/15 Bucking Battle of the new season, Davis was the headliner, squaring off with world No. 1-ranked bovine Ridin Solo. Matching the striking bull move-for-move, the Texan reached the whistle, marked a monstrous 91.25 points to tie for second in the special round. In the main event in the Sunshine State, Davis reached the championship round after covering Stretch for 87.5 points in Round 1 and Sun Country for 86 points in Round 2. With the first pick in the championship round bull draft, Davis quickly chose Speed Demon, who he had covered five times in six previous attempts, marked in excess of 90 points in four of his qualified rides. After matching Speed Demon jump-for-jump in Okeechobee, Davis was desperately hanging off the left side of the bull for the last two seconds of the out, which was put under review to determine if he had reached the 8-second whistle. While Davis was awarded a qualified ride, his efforts didn’t prove enough; he needed an 86.75-point score or higher and was only marked 84.75 points due to lacking control in the ride’s final seconds, leading to a second-place finish. Netting a collective 141.5 world points, Davis catapulted to the No. 1 ranking. Davis’ silver efforts also propelled him into an elite club of PBR riders. Earning a total of $19,463.87 in Okeechobee, Davis became the 12th rider in league history to surpass the $3 million earnings mark. Beyond Okeechobee, Davis has been red hot throughout the entirety of the 2021 season. Davis leads the league with eight qualified rides and a 72.73% riding average.

Attempting to become the seventh multi-time PBR World Champion in 2021, Davis now leads No. 2 Junior Patrik Souza by 71 points. In Del Rio, Davis will attempt House Mouse in Round 1, before facing off with Born to Sin in the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

FRITZLAN MAKES HISTORY – On the heels of winning the 2020 NFR bull riding title, Colten Fritzlan made his PBR Unleash The Beast debut at the most recent tour stop in Okeechobee, Florida. Undeterred by the bright lights of the sport’s top tour, the Coloradoan rose to the occasion, going a perfect 3-for-3 to win the event and join an elite contingent of rookies to win their first-ever appearance on the PBR’s premier series. Fritzlan got off to a hot start in Round 1, reaching the requisite 8 on Express Lane, his first elite tour draw, to earn an 86.5-point score. The 20-year-old then punched his ticket to the championship round when he rode Two Socks for 86.75 points. Outlasting a hard-fighting Cooper Davis, Fritzlan cemented the victory when he rode Zero Time for 87 points in the final round. Fritzlan is the tenth rider in league history since 2000 to win his debut Unleash The Beast event. He follows in the footsteps of three-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves, reigning PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme, Australian sensation Lachlan Richardson, and surging sophomore rider Cole Melancon. Fritzlan’s victory netted him 125 world points and a check for $23,996.73. He is now ranked No. 5 in the world, 114 points behind No. 1 Davis. On Saturday afternoon in Del Rio, Fritzlan will look to log his fourth and fifth consecutive qualified rides when he competes in Round 1 of the PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational and competes in his first-ever 15/15 Bucking Battle. He has drawn Buck Norris in Round 1, and 2020 ABBI Classic Champion Bull Woopaa in the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

LOCKWOOD. IS. BACK. – Two-time PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood’s 2021 season was put on pause as quickly as it began. At the season-launch Unleash The Beast tour stop in Ocala, Florida, the Montanan broke his jaw when he took a horn to the face from Detroit Lean when he was bucked off in 2.75 seconds. After undergoing surgery to repair the injury, which subsequently sidelined him for two events, Lockwood will return to action this weekend in Del Rio, tied for the world No. 76 ranking and 267.5 points behind No. 1 Cooper Davis. Eager to earn his first world points of the new season, Lockwood will attempt Skull Crusher in Round 1 of the PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational in Texas.

KOLBABA GOES FOR 90, CRACKS TOP 10 – Derek Kolbaba traveled to Okeechobee, Florida for the most recent tour stop ranked No. 40 in the world, having bucked off his past two draws. However, in the Sunshine State, Kolbaba righted his course, finishing third in the PBR Coors Banquet Invitational, earning 80 world points and catapulting to No. 8 in the world standings. Rebounding from a 4.61-second buckoff atop Kickstart My Heart in Round 1, the Washington native was in near picture-perfect form in Round 2, going the distance on Shark Bait for an 87.25-point score. Kolbaba then delivered his first 90- point ride of the 2021 season in the championship round when he covered Diddy Wa Diddy for a head-turning 90.75 points. The 90-point ride was also the 15th of Kolbaba’s career, the sixth-most among active riders currently on the Unleash The Beast. Statistically, Kolbaba records a 90-point ride 12.9% of the time when he reaches the 8-second mark. In comparison, two-time World Champion Jess Lockwood is marked 90 points or more 22.14% of the time, while 2020 PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme reaches the threshold 20.42% of the time, 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis 11.5% of the time, and 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco 5.09% of the time.

Kolbaba surged more than 30 positions in the world rankings, and now is within 170.5 points of No. 1 Cooper Davis. Eager to continue his momentum in Del Rio, Kolbaba will face Butterfly Kisses in Round 1 of the PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational, followed by Top Shelf in the tour stop’s accompanying 15/15 Bucking Battle.

EGUCHI CONQUERS SMOOTH OPERATOR – At the most recent PBR Unleash The Beast event in Okeechobee, Florida, fireworks were seen at the first 15/15 Bucking Battle of the new season held at the Agri-Civic Center. The special round was headlined by four 90-point rides. 2018 PBR World Finals Event Winner Marco Eguchi led the contingent, covering two-time and reigning YETI PBR World Champion Bull Smooth Operator for a monstrous 94 points. The score is the high- marked ride of the season to date, and is tied for Eguchi’s career-best on the elite tour, matching his score aboard Spottted Demon during Round 2 of the 2018 PBR World Finals. For Eguchi, the ride avenged a buckoff from the 2020 season when Smooth Operator bucked off the charismatic Brazilian in 5.87 seconds during the championship round of the Unleash The Beast event in Bismarck, North Dakota. In addition to his victory in the 15/15 Bucking Battle, Eguchi also placed 13th in the main event, going 1-for-2, to net a collective 71 world points and climb from No. 10 to 7 in the world. He now trails No. 1 Cooper Davis by 133 points ahead of this weekend’s PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational in Del Rio, Texas. Slated to face two bulls on the opening night of action, Eguchi will face off against Wasted Days in Round 1, before climbing aboard current world No. 1- ranked bull Ridin Solo in the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

BULL PEN – This weekend’s bull pen for the PBR Built Ford Tough Invitational in Del Rio, Texas, will be headlined by the season-debut of 2020 ABBI Classic Champion Woopaa, who will buck alongside five of the bulls currently ranked inside the Top 10 in the world. From Barker Bulls, Woopaa turned heads in 2020 when he teamed with Jose Vitor Leme for a monstrous 95.75-point score that propelled both athletes to championship titles. Having bucked just twice prior on the premier series, Woopaa’s efforts with Leme earned him a career-best 46.75-point score. Woopaa reached the World Finals after advancing through the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Finals where he was marked 46 points for his 2.61-second buckoff of Marcus Mast. Prior to the season-culminating events, Woopaa’s two additional outs on the premier series took place in Little Rock, Arkansas in March, and Tulsa, Oklahoma in October. In Arkansas, Woopaa bucked off Taylor Toves in 5.02 seconds to earn a 42.75-point score, while in Oklahoma the bovine athlete made quick work of Rafael Henrique dos Santos, sending him to the dirt in 3.93 seconds, to earn a 44.25-point score. Woopaa will make his 2021 debut during the 15/15 Bucking Battle in Del Rio, set to match up against young gun Colten Fritzlan.

Cord McCoy’s Ridin’ Solo leads the quintet of bulls currently ranked inside the Top 10. The Oklahoma-raised bull is tied atop the rankings with two-time and reigning YETI PBR World Champion Bull Smooth Operator, both of whom hold a 45.75-point world average. Thus far in 2021, Ridin’ Solo has bucked four times on the premier series, earning the YETI “Built For The Wild” Bull of the Event honor in Ocala. At the season-launch tour stop, Ridin’ Solo posted the top bull score of the year, a 47- point effort, when he dispatched 2019 PBR Rookie of the Year Dalton Kasel in 2.26 seconds. The striking bull also earned a 46- point score in Ocala, tied for the second-best score of the season, when he bucked off Alex Cerqueira in 4.89 seconds. Ridin’ Solo last bucked in Okeechobee where he was marked 44.5 points when he teamed with Cooper Davis for a 91.25-point score in the 15/15 Bucking Battle, and 45.5 points in the championship round of the main event when he bucked off Cole Melancon in 0.98 seconds. Slated to buck in the 15/15 Bucking Battle in Del Rio, Marco Eguchi will be the next rider to face off against Ridin’ Solo. Blake Sharp’s Detroit Lean will buck in Del Rio as the No. 3-ranked bovine athlete in the world, holding a 45.38- point world average and 0.37 points removed from the top spot. Detroit Lean made the most of his season debut in Ocala, bucking twice where he earned a 45.5-point and 45.25-point score. Also bucking in the 15/15 Bucking Battle, Detroit Lean will be attempted by Joao Ricardo Vieira. As the final bull ranked inside the current Top 5 slated to buck in Del Rio, Diddy Wa Diddy will travel to the Lone Star State ranked No. 4 in the world with a 45.13-point average, 0.62 points behind No. 1 Ridin’ Solo and Smooth Operator. Diddy Wa Diddy tied for the Bull of the Event Honor at the most recent tour stop in Okeechobee, marked 46 points in the first 15/15 Bucking Battle of the season for his 2.25-second buckoff of Marcelo Pereira. Diddy Wa Diddy also had his name center stage later in the Florida event, scored 44.25 points in the championship round when he was covered by Derek Kolbaba for 90.75 points. Diddy Wa Diddy will return to competition in the championship round of the event in Del Rio.

The contingent of bulls is rounded out by No. 7 Midnight Rock (44.69-Point World Average // -1.06 points) and No. 8 I’m Legit Too (44.67-Point World Average // -1.08 points). Midnight Rock will buck in the championship round, while I’m Legit Too will compete in the 15/15 Bucking Battle, locked in a rematch with Junior Patrik Souza.

15/15 BUCKING BATTLE – Del Rio and the Val Verde County Fairgrounds will host the second 15/15 Bucking Battle of the season, headlined by Joao Ricardo Vieira’s attempt to extend his PBR record for victories in the special round to seven. In a first-time matchup, the veteran Brazilian has drawn the world No. 3-ranked bovine Detroit Lean. Having bucked just twice on the premier series, and three times across all levels of competition, no rider has yet to make the 8 aboard the bull. Through his young career, Detroit Lean has dispatched the likes of two-time PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood and 2019 PBR Rookie of the Year Dalton Kasel.

The 15/15 Bucking Battle in Del Rio will also feature six rematches, with just one rider having previously made the 8. Three - time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves will square off against Hank, eager to remain perfect. Having met once prior, Alves reached the whistle aboard the bull for a 74.5-point score on the elite Unleash The Beast in 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahaoma. For the remaining five riders, including two PBR World Champions, they will be looking to make the 8 aboard their draw for the first time. Current world No. 1 and 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis is slated to face Born to Sin for the second time in his career. The duo of athletes first met in 2020 on the premier series in Fort Worth, Texas, with Born to Sin getting the better of Davis in a quick 1.59 seconds. World No. 3 and 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco will also attempt to avenge of a buckoff from the 2020 season. Pacheco previously attempted Night Hawk last season on the elite Unleash The Beast in Tulsa, Oklahoma, sent to the dirt in 4.13 seconds.

The remaining rematches are:

Cole Melancon vs. Hocus Pocus (2020 Salt Lake City, Utah UTB – 3.99 seconds) Junior Patrik Souza vs. I’m Legit Too (2021 Arcadia, Florida UTB – 6.27 seconds) Mauricio Moreira vs. Chiseled (2020 Nampa, Idaho UTB – 3.35 seconds)

VELOCITY TOUR, INTERNATIONAL AND TOURING PRO DIVISION POINTS – Event points earned at any Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) event are applied to the PBR world standings. For the 2020 season, the PBR’s Executive Competition Committee (ECC) approved a revised PBR world points system pertaining to all tours, including the Velocity Tour, International Tour events and Touring Pro Division stops for the 2020 season and beyond. The change placed a further emphasis on the PBR World Finals, which is set to award 4.3% more points this season, compared to 2019. While fewer points will be awarded at all levels, with the reduction coming proportionate to the amount of points awarded in 2019 across all tours, the change will bring a newfound simplicity to the sport, with the points now easier to track and calculate. Specific to the Velocity Tour, riders will now earn points in both the long rounds and championship round. Prior to 2020, round points were just awarded in the long rounds. The Touring Pro Division also saw an increase in points awarded, relative to the other tours. While prior to 2019 TPD wins were only worth 35.29% of a Velocity Tour aggregate win, in 2020 they will be worth 50%. International events will once again award as many points as the Velocity Tour aggregate, and will continue to not award round points.
