HERE’S A CLOSER LOOK AT GUILHERME JORGE: WW: HOW DID YOU START COURSE DESIGNING? Jorge: I always felt intrigued and interested in it. I graduated as a vet so I worked with sport and jumping horses. A barn where I used to work would run competitions and sometimes the professional didn’t want to do courses, so I would do them. Then, in ’92, I was invited to do a show at a local club. I started investing more in learning. PRESENTED BY In ’98, I stopped working as a vet and started working full-time course designing. WW: WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT DESIGNING COURSES? Jorge: To have the opportunity to be involved with the top level of the sport that I grew up loving is something really exciting. Also, the fact that within the rules and guidelines of show jumping we can create different challenges for the horses and riders every time is really special. WW: HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED HERE AT WEF? Jorge: The first time I came to WEF was in ’99. The first year, I designed the Moga- vero and the DeNemethy rings. I was invited by Jose Gamarra and Steve Stephens. They were managing the course designers at the time. For a few years, I only desig- ned the back rings and in 2001, I did the main ring. Since then, I’ve only missed one year of course designing here. SPRING 2017 ©Emily Riden WW: WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT DESIGNING AT WEF?
