Principal photography commenced in the summer and will continue until early November in and around Toronto, with the first episode of Season 5, “Murdoch of the Klondike,” filmed on location in Dawson City, Yukon. Encore episodes of Murdoch Mysteries are currently airing weekly on Citytv. Cook ______________________________ Anna Beresin ______________________________ Todd Wolfson Camden, New Jersey May 2016 ABSTRACT Watching Television with Friends: Tween Girls’ Inclusion of Televisual Material in Friendship By CYNTHIA MICHIELLE MAURER Dissertation Director: Daniel Thomas Cook This qualitative work examines the role of tween live-action television shows in the friendships of four tween girls, providing insight into the use of televisual material in peer interactions. Over the course of one year and with the use of a video camera, I recorded, observed, hung out and watched television with the girls in the informal setting of a friend’s house. I found that friendship informs and filters understandings and use of tween television in daily conversations with friends. Using Erving Goffman’s theory of facework as a starting point, I introduce a new theoretical framework called friendship work to locate, examine, and understand how friendship is enacted on a granular level. Friendship work considers how an individual positions herself for her own needs before acknowledging the needs of her friends, and is concerned with both emotive effort and social impact. Through group television viewings, participation in television themed games, and the creation of webisodes, the girls strengthen, maintain, and diminish previously established bonds.

His poem was the inspiration for the use of the poppy as an international symbol of remembrance. John McCrae was a multi-dimensional man with a complex personal history. McCrae died overseas on January 28, 1918. This year’s civic celebrations will pay tribute to McCrae— soldier, poet and physician.     PRESS RELEASE For immediate release: REGENT PARK FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 3RD EDITION OF LIVE IT TO LEARN IT Toronto – Wednesday, May 16, 2018: The Regent Park Film Festival announces the third annual Live It To Learn It, a paid-internship program with the dual goal of introducing culturally diverse youth to meaningful work opportunities and fostering greater diversity within the Film and Television industry in Toronto. Live It To Learn It was launched in 2016 in partnership with Strada Films, Thunderbird Productions and the hit series Kim’s Convenience. This year we are thrilled to present the initiative in partnership with Pathway2Industry by Goldelox Productions, Shaftesbury, Sim, Strada Films, Thunderbird Entertainment and NABET 700-M UNIFOR. This year we welcome a new partnership with Pathway2Industry by Goldelox Productions, as Live It To Learn It sharpens its focus by specifically engaging Black youth. Goldelox joins our slate of incredible industry partners, who not only share our vision for a more diverse industry and supporting young people reach new opportunities, but have also demonstrated their commitment by making critical funding and resources available towards making this initiative possible. Participating interns are slated for a busy summer: The first internship stream will take an intern to shadow all aspects of production and post-production on the set of the hit Television show Kim’s Convenience. The second stream will invite interns to spend the first month with Sim learning about the often-missed, but incredibly important role supply houses play in the industry, receiving set etiquette training and WHIMIS accreditation from NABET 700-M UNIFOR, a leading union for Film and Television technicians in Ontario; and culminating in a month-long assignment as a Production Assistant on one of Shaftesbury’s series currently in production, Murdoch Mysteries or Frankie Drake Mysteries.

    SPRING 2013 the The Independent Oak Park Independent School Volume 7 Number 3 Barbara Harrison, Editor Principal Lou Tabone Announces His Retirement WASC Visit a After seven years of dedicated service as principal of Huge Success both Oak Park Independent School and Oak View High School, Mr. Tabone has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the school year. In 2012, Mr. Tabone was recognized with the Alternative Education/ Continuation High School Principal of the Year Award. Additionally, both of his schools earned the highest honor within the district – the Constellation Award. His schools also achieved outstanding WASC accreditations under his leadership. During Mr. Tabone’s tenure, not only did STAR test scores improve, but OPIS grew considerably. Lou hired additional teachers and office staff to meet the needs of his expanding school. He was instrumental in acquiring the Primary students Madison Gamboa, Kiara adequate resources needed to serve the expanding student Gamboa, Bella Medrano and Calista Loter population and in implementing high school science labs. As gave a musical performance to entertain the Director of Alternative Education in the district, Mr. Tabone visiting WASC committee in March. Hodel certifies that this is the approved version of the following dissertation: SECRET SUPERSTARS AND OTHERWORLDLY WIZARDS: Gender Biased Hiding of Extraordinary Abilities in Girl-Powered Disney Channel Sitcoms from the 2000s Chair: Germaine Halegoua, Ph.D. Date Approved: 25 January 2017 ii ABSTRACT Conformity messaging and subversive practices potentially harmful to healthy models of feminine identity are critical interpretations of the differential depiction of the hiding and usage of tween girl characters’ extraordinary abilities (e.g., super/magical abilities and celebrity powers) in Disney Channel television sitcoms from 2001-2011. Male counterparts in similar programs aired by the same network openly displayed their extraordinariness and were portrayed as having considerable and usually uncontested agency. These alternative depictions of differential hiding and secrecy in sitcoms are far from speculative; these ideas were synthesized from analyses of sitcom episodes, commentary in magazine articles, and web-based discussions of these series. Content analysis, industrial analysis (including interviews with industry personnel), and critical discourse analysis utilizing the multi-faceted lens of feminist theory throughout is used in this study to demonstrate a unique decade in children’s programming about super powered girls.
