This is an 8 mile circular walk with minimal climbing.

I decided to do it because of the time of year. Dave Tilleray did the walk about 3 years ago.

Today's Coach Walks starting points: A: B+: B: Glenridding C: Brothers Water

Grade : A Distance 10 ¾ miles / 17.3 km Leader: Kevin Poole From Hell to Eternity Climbing 3200 ft / 975 m

Okay, listen up. The plan is simple and therefore pure genius. We vacate our transport at Patterdale and sneak up Grisedale valley. By approaching under the cover of Dollywagon Pike, High Crag and Nethermost Pike, we will take the mountain by total surprise. It will not see us coming until the last minute. At the same time we avoid the hundreds of civilians, wandering like sheep, along its ridges. In the unlikely event that anyone actually joins me on this mission; we will stop for rations at Grise- dale tarn. Legend has it, after the defeat and death of the last Celtic King of , some of his surviving warriors took his crown and threw it into the tarn. (Please note, legend also states it is bad luck to throw the walk's leader in the tarn to try and find it!). We descend to our extraction point Glenridding via the 'Travellers Rest'. No, I have never been in the military. Yes, I will take my medication on the day! Hope you all have a good one and the weather is kind.

Grade : B+ Stony Cove Pike & Distance 11 miles /17.7km Leader: Colin Manning Climbing 1650 ft / 503 m

Starting from the top of Kirkstone Pass we head straight into our climb up to Stony Cove Pike (2503ft/763m). From here we descend a little before a short climb up to Hartsop Dodd (2023ft/618m) for great views over Ullswater (weather permitting). A steep descent from here takes us down to Hartsop where we turn left to head to Brothers Water. A lovely walk round the Water brings us to the path alongside the road. Crossing over just before Deepdale Bridge, we then head up towards Beck- stones and Crookabeck. Turning left at Rooking, we walk into Patterdale. A short road walk brings us to Grisedale Bridge where we turn left again to head towards Thornhow. From here we turn right to climb up past Lanty's Tarn before a final woodland descent into Glenridding. Lanty's Tarn is included in the walk details but can be omitted at Patterdale if time is against us.

Grade : B Distance 7 miles / 11.4 km Leader: Kevin Alty Red Tarn Climbing 2320 ft / 703 m

This route takes you into the heart of the Helvellyn range. The walk uses well maintained paths throughout and although no summits are included you get that feeling of being right there in the mid- dle of the 'action'. Leaving the car park at Glenridding turn right over Glenridding Beck, head towards Rattlebeck Bridge. Passing Catstye Cam the path climbing steadily you cross a footbridge and begin climbing until you get your first view of Helvellyn with Striding Edge to its left. The rate of ascent eases and Red Tarn comes into view with a wonderful surround of crags and the perfect place to have a lunch. After lunch we head to the "Hole in the Wall". Cross the stile and head down the path descending into Grisedale. You have superb views of and can also appreciate the steep southern flank of Striding Edge as it plunges into the valley. Almost reaching the valley floor. Continue on the track to reach the centre of Glenridding. Cafe/pub awaits our return.

Grade : C Brothers Water Distance 5 miles / 8 km Leader: Bill Manning Climbing 200 ft / 61 m

Starting from Sykes farm camp site, we take the farm track down to Hartsop Hall where we bear right to reach the shoreline path of Brothers Water before joining the A592. From here we head for Hart- sop village. Retracing our steps, we turn right down the lane to Calf Close. Here, we start our climb to Dubhow and Crookabeck and on to Side Farm, where we can stop for refreshments. Leaving here, we meet the A592 taking us to Glenridding for the coaches and cafes. Come and join me for an extra walk to Lanty's tarn if you wish.

Please remove muddy boots before boarding the coach & check. that you take all your belongings with you. Thank you.
