Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! Most of all, the tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me” made this musical a favorite for the whole family! Why I Gave: 7 “St. Paul’s is dear to my heart. Having served as Director of Development for 19 years, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work done to create that wonderful school. At St. Paul’s, I got to know the dedicated people who do that work, and watched my three sons and many other friends grow up and graduate. Now I have grandchildren there. I am so proud that they have the opportunity to learn and grow in “St. Paul’s continues putting forward such a great environment.” remarkable students taught by exceptional Pat Frazer, Grandparent teachers and talented and gifted athletes trained by superb coaches. The school, the students, and the teachers continue to receive national recognition for their efforts and talents. The spiritual foundation of our school remains strong. There is a lot going on here to make you very proud of your St. Paul’s heritage but St. Paul’s future is much bigger than its past, or even its present. As the school continues to “We continue to give to the Annual Fund develop and grow, the opportunities for more because, like you, we want to keep this special development and growth expand school great. It is important to us that up and again and again.” Cam Marston, Parent coming students receive the same excellent education. To make this education possible, the school counts on charitable, tax deductible contributions from parents, past parents, alumnae and friends. Supporting the school reinforces the pride our graduates have in their diploma. We want our children to eventually return to Mobile and know that St. Paul’s is still a fine academic institution and the best choice for their own children.” Mary Anne and “Even before they were born there was Stuart Ball, Past Parents no question in our house where our children would go to school. In large part that’s because of our continued pride in the School and the values placed on education, the focus on community, and a commitment to personal excellence. Many of my fondest memories come from playing sports, either running track for Coach Tate, winning a State Championship in or on E.E. Delaney under the lights on Friday nights. And I look forward to my kids having some of the same experiences.” Liz and John Ferguson, Current parents

Contributed by: Evans Crowe

The St. Paul’s Alumni Council hosted its Spring Golf Tournament on April 18th. For the first time in 15 years, St. Paul’s alumni, parents, coaches and friends came together to enjoy a great afternoon of golf and companionship. The weather was perfect and the event was, by all accounts, a great success. The last time St. Paul’s hosted a golf tournament, the Epistle editors and reporters had not reached Pre-K4. The Alumni Council is proud that more than 75 golfers, many corporate sponsors and dozens of hole-sponsors played in and supported the tournament.

The golfers were divided into two flights. The winners were:

1st Flight: Team Summer Classics James Clement ‘05, Kirk McRee, Wallace McKinney ‘05, and Robert Cook ‘00.

2nd Flight: Team Wells Fargo John Lyle ‘84, Trey Barnard, Carter Drane ‘87 and Edwin Lamberth ‘89

EPISTLE II | SUMMER 2013 One of the favorite interactive aspects of the tournament was the players’ option to have a professional golfer hit their drive for them. Former St. Paul’s golfer, college golfer and now 11 professional golfer, Zack Sucher ‘05, set up shop on the 14th hole. For a paltry sum, skillfully negotiated by Susan Smith, Zack was able to drive most teams’ tee ball onto or near the green, guaranteeing each team at least a birdie and an eagle opportunity. Zack was joined by his wife, Courtney, and their brand new daughter, Hadley, who will no doubt be knocking the little white ball around in no time.

The Alumni Council would like to thank Title Sponsor, Springhill Medical Center, and Lunch Sponsor, Foosackly’s, and also all the corporate and hole sponsors. Without the participation of our sponsors, the event would not have been the success it was.

Proceeds from the event will support Alumni Council activities and the St. Paul’s Golf Team, which won yet another State Championship this spring. Congratulations to Coach Sandy Santoli and the St. Paul’s Golf Team.

Based on the many responses received from sponsors and players, the Alumni Council is excited about this event and plans are underway for next year’s Spring Tournament, the date for which will be published soon.

If you wish to be a title, corporate or hole sponsor or play in next year’s tournament, please contact Allison Castle in the Alumni Office at(251) 380-0408 or by email at [email protected]. You can also contact Evans Crowe at (251) 431-6011 or by email at [email protected].

LEE’S MOST MEMORABLE GIFT

Lee recalls the most memorable gift of her career:

“I have to pick just one? A fairly recent gift that I was honored to be a part of evolved when two University of South Alabama (South) alumni approached me about recognizing a retiring professor by naming something significant for him. This professor had such a powerful, life-changing impact on their lives that they wanted to demonstrate their gratitude by naming something that would stand the test of time - a classroom. On the professor’s last day at South, I tagged along with one alumnus while the other joined via Skype to make the presentation. The professor was surprised and deeply moved, to say the least. While I am paraphrasing, he expressed that he had always hoped he was making a difference in the lives of his students and this generous act of appreciation solidified why he chose to be an educator.”
