On World Habitat Day 2010, Monday, 4 October, world-wide will host programs on this year’s theme. This year, the theme Better City, Better Life highlights our collective vision of a sustainable urban world that harnesses the potential and possibilities, mitigates inequalities and disparities, and provides a home for people of all cultures and ages, both rich and poor. The Global Observance of World Habitat Day this year will be held at the World Expo 2010. Running from 4 to 10 October, World Habitat Week will feature as a major concluding event of the Shanghai Expo.

At the Headquarters, UN-Habitat New York Office and the Consortium for Sustainable join to host a public event: “Better City, Better Life”.

The expected objectives and outcome of the workshop are:

1) Establish the challenges of health and the quality of the built environment in relation to various typologies of urbanized areas; 2) Solicit and evaluate best practices in terms of their applicability to these different situations; and 3) Identify initiatives to design and apply innovative solutions for sustainable urbanization.
