Beatrice Weder di Mauro

A dynamic thought-leader and vanguard at many of the world’s leading financial institutions, Beatrice Weder di Mauro is universally hailed as a foremost authority on global economic policy. Since June 2004, she has served on the German Council of Economic Experts, which advises the German government on economic policy and development, and is the first woman and non-German to ever do so. She is also Professor of International Macroeconomics at the University of Mainz. Prior to joining the German Council, Weder di Mauro worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the in Washington, DC, and at the OECD Development Center in Paris.

Weder di Mauro’s accomplishments have been widely praised and recognized including being named as a “Young Global Leader” by the at Davos as well as the recipient of the Thomas Dehler Prize, awarded for contributions to the preservation and expansion of the liberal economic order in Europe and with global trading partners; she is not only the first woman to earn this prestigious honor but also is the youngest and first non- German to win the highly-coveted prize.

In addition to her position on the German Council, Beatrice Weder di Mauro maintains several global government and finance affiliations including as a member of the Group of Experts of the Ministers for the Austrian Ministry of Finance as well as on the Conseil Scientifique de la Fondation for Banque de France. From 2002-2004, she served on the Board of Macroeconomic Advisors of the Swiss Federation, advising the Swiss government on economic policy.

Weder di Mauro has also held several visiting scholar posts at prominent international institutions such as the Federal Reserve Board in New York, the National Board of Economic Research in Cambridge, MA, and Harvard University. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for Roche Pharmaceuticals and speaks fluent English, German, Spanish and Italian.
