With Adam Hauswirth, President Umpires Assoc. So far this year we have had one milestone to celebrate in the umpiring ranks a few rounds back George Gale umpired his 150th League game. This week I am happy to say that we are going to have a double celebration with the fact that both Colin Grove and Anthony Kerr will both walk out to umpire their 150th League Games on Sunday at Sir Richard Moore Oval. 18 Burt Street, Boulder It is quite unique that not only will these 2 highly regarded members of the Telephone (08) 9093 3160 - Fax (08) 9093 3162 Umpires Association reach their 150 games but to be able to umpire the Email: [email protected] same game to mark the achievement makes it that little bit more historic. Both Colin and Anthony are Life Members of the Umpires Association with Colin receiving his in 2010 and Anthony likewise in 2011. They both are very FCA cool, calm and collected on the field when umpiring and are excellent role Pat Leighton models for new umpires to look up to. CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT Anthony has come from a football background having played in a few Phone: 9021 1822 different leagues in Australia and also played in the GFL for numerous seasons for a couple of different clubs. The president of one of these clubs Fax: 9021 8277 always tells me that they struggle to get a free kick out of him. He has Email: [email protected] served on the committee of the GFLUA over the years and is always one to Electronic Lodgment of Tax Returns put his hand up for numerous games when we are short. Anthony has won Taxation - Auditing the Umpire of the Year on a few occasions and also umpired a few GFL Business Advice 77 Maritana Street Grand Finals although I am pretty confident that his crowning glory was his Computer Services (PO Box 876), first Grand Final that he umpired at Landmark. It was an exhibition game but Corporate Services Kalgoorlie WA 6433 the way he tells the story makes us all laugh. Colin has one of the biggest engines I have ever come across. He never stops. When some of us get tired and would usually give up he continues to power on through. Colin comes from the John Hopoate school of Rugby and took up umpiring for a way to keep fit. He still can’t kick a footy properly without the help of a kicking tee but as for knowing the rules his knowledge is incredible. Colin has umpired a number of GFL Grand Finals and also a few Grand Finals at Landmark also, which was highlighted by him being awarded the B Grade Final at the 2009 Landmark Championships. I wish these 2 guys the best of luck for the weekend and congratulate them Charlie Bloomer from everyone that is involved with the GFLUA.
