Chièvres, Brugelette celebrate 73rd anniversary of the end of WWII

On May 8, 2018, the towns of Chièvres and Brugelette commemorated Victory in Europe day during a wreath laying ceremony. This year, Col Connell, USAG Benelux Commander, attended the commemoration in Brugelette while Air Force Col. Lindstrom, 424th Commander, honored the fallen in Chievres. Both commanders reflected on the courage of local resistants and local inhabitants killed during the Second World War, a global war that lasted 6 years and made more than 50 million of victims.

Both young ladies are juniors from the SHAPE American High School. The Girls State program is one of the most respected and coveted experiential learning programs presented in the United States. The program epitomizes the ALA’s mission to honor those who have brought us our freedom through our enduring commitment to develop young women as future leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism.
