Frosh Media Contacts: Attorney General [email protected] 410-576-7009 Attorney General Frosh Asks Apple and Google to Ensure All Contact Tracing Apps Serve a Public Health Purpose Bipartisan Coalition of Attorneys General Expresses Concern about Privacy Implications in Letters Sent to Apple and Google BALTIMORE, MD (June 16, 2020) – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today asked Google and Apple to ensure all contact tracing and exposure notification apps related to COVID- 19 adequately protect consumers’ personal information. Joining a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general, Attorney General Frosh specifically asked Google and Apple to guarantee that such apps, when available to consumers, are affiliated with a public health authority and removed from Google Play and the App Store once no longer needed by public health authorities. In a letter sent today to the chief executive officers of Apple and Google, the Attorneys General acknowledge that while digital contact tracing and exposure notification tools are valuable in understanding the spread of COVID-19 and assisting public health authorities, these same technologies pose a risk to consumers’ privacy. “In the midst of a global pandemic, easily accessible digital contract tracing apps may be a valuable tool to help reduce the spread of COVID-19,” said Attorney General Frosh. “But it is essential that we avoid exposing consumers’ personal and health information to unverified, questionable apps.” Digital contact tracing may provide a valuable tool to understand the spread of COVID-19 and assist the public health response to the pandemic. However, such technology also poses a risk to consumers’ personally identifiable information, including sensitive health information, that could continue long after the present public health emergency ends.

Corrections Services Department Description The mission of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections - Corrections Services - is to provide for the custody, control, care and treatment of adjudicated offenders through enforcement of the laws and implementa- tion of programs designed to ensure the safety of the public, staff and inmates and to reintegrate offenders into society. The goals of Corrections Services are: I. Public Safety: Maximize public safety through appropriate and effective correctional custodial and supervisory programs. II. Staff and Inmate Safety: Provide for the safety of correctional staff and inmates by maintaining an organized and disciplined system of operations that promotes stability in institutional and other field operations. III. Provision of Basic Services: Provide appropriate services for victims of crimes committed by those offenders in Corrections Services’ custody or under Corrections Services’ supervision and ensure the basic services relating to adequate food, clothing, health care, and shelter are provided to the inmate population. IV. Opportunity for Change: Provide an environment which enables positive behavior change by making or identifying educational and rehabilitative opportunities available within the unit or the community for inmates and persons under supervision who demonstrate motivation for change and the desire to participate in rehabilitative programs. V. Opportunity for Making Amends: Provide opportunities for making restitution and participating in community restorative initiatives as a mechanism to compensate individuals and communities harmed by crime. 2021 SWLA Projects Report: Detailed 5.28.21 Compiled by the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, this report reflects projects as of May 2021. Some of these projects may have been announced or started in prior years. Where information is available, we have included the history and stage of the project. All information in this report is either provided by the company themselves, from LED Fastlane, IMCAL or from press releases provided through media. This is not an exhaustive list of all projects in SWLA as some companies are in phases where they are not ready to publicly share information about their projects. Southwest Louisiana Task Force for Growth & Opportunity (GO Group) The Southwest Louisiana Task Force for Growth and Opportunity (GO Group), formed in early 2013, is focused on developing strategies to ensure the successful implementation of planned economic development projects for Southwest Louisiana. It was formed by local community leaders, stakeholders, and elected officials to identify the various socioeconomic issues involved with such projects. The GO Group aims to assist local governmental agencies in planning, policy development, and implementation of a strategic plan that identifies the short-term and long-term preparation and response actions necessary to achieve the economic and social benefits from the successful implementation of the announced economic development projects; to address the multiple related issues; and to also accommodate and support current and future economic growth throughout the five parish region. The goal of this strategic planning process is to ensure that Southwest Louisiana emerges from this growth and development stronger, smarter, and more diversified than before, and that local communities are positioned to take advantage of the ancillary social and economic development potential associated with the implementation of these projects.
