In some cases, a Trimble device will not sync correctly with a PC. In the event of this issue, the following has been provided to resolve any type of issues between your PC and your Trimble Device.

QUESTION 1: Are you using the correct synching utility for your PC?

If you are using or trying to install ActiveSync on a Windows 7 PC, stop immediately. Windows 7 and Vista will not recognize either. Instead, use Device Center.

For others that are using Windows XP or below, you can use ActiveSync as it is still the recommended version. If you still can’t get synchronization, make sure you have the latest version installed.

If questions 1 and 2 don’t apply to you and you’ve done everything correct, then it’s time to look at the unit itself.

If you are using a GeoExplorer, the most likely reason you are not receiving anything is because of the default settings. This is a fixable issue however, and the moment you do it, you will never have to worry about it again when you reconnect to your PC.

This is a quick fix and it can be applied to all Geos, regardless of model. Follow the following steps:

1. In your GeoExplorer, select the Start menu on the bottom left of the touchscreen. Select Settings. 2. Under the Settings menu, select the Connections tab/icon. For those using 2008 series and below, this will be on the bottom tab 3. In the Connections menu, select USB to PC.

In this menu, you can change the advanced network functionality of your device. This is the most common issue that is seen in a GeoExplorer device. Uncheck the box and press ok to change these settings.

If the GeoExplorer does not register right away, unplug the USB from the PC and plug back in. If a message displaying “Installing Driver Software” appears in the bottom right of the taskbar, the GeoExplorer is syncing.

If you still experience issues with your device; unplug the unit, go back into the USB to PC menu and check the Enable advanced network functionality box. Press ok to save, and plug the unit back into the PC.
