Sir Michael Marshall said: ‘I am delighted that so many Marshall Runners took part in this wonderful race. The Company has a very proud record of supporting this race, with its strong links to the 1924 Olympics in Paris – immortalised by the film Chariots of Fire – in which my father, was in the relay team’. Cambridgeshire County Council Resolution At a meeting of Cambridgeshire County Council held on 29th March the then Chairman, Councillor Linda Oliver, received unanimous agreement on the resolution that the Council recognised the unique contribution that the Marshall of Cambridge Group of Companies has made to Cambridgeshire for more than 100 years, both in economic terms, by the provision of local employment opportunities and the supply of goods and services, as well as by its direct and indirect investment in the local community. The Leader of the County Council, Councillor Nick Clarke, said: "Marshall has made a unique contribution to Cambridgeshire and the national economy. There is no doubt that this company is a huge success story for Cambridgeshire and is well known nationally and internationally. Even though its clients are worldwide, it's still very much a family business at heart with the interests of Cambridgeshire residents and workforce in mind. It is this very success story that we want to encourage for the whole of Cambridgeshire as part of our vision for the county to be open for business, investing in growth and enabling companies to thrive here. Marshall has made a unique and very impressive contribution to the county and country over the last 100 years and we are delighted to recognise this with the presentation of this Framed Resolution." The last village appraisal look place in 1999 and so it was felt that 2008-09 would be a good time to undertake a further survey to see how things have changed, developed, improved or worsened in the last 10 years. The process of creating the plan has given everyone the chance to say what they think about the social, economic and environmental issues affecting our community. An important aspect of the Parish Plan is that it can form strategic links with influential organizations, such as the District Council. The Parish Council’s contribution iThe Isleham Parish Plan began in March 2008 with a meeting at the village hall with a representative from Cambridgeshire Acre, the parish clerk, a few parishioners and 2 parish councillors. A grant towards the cost of producing the plan was received from Cambridgeshire Acre in the form of funding of £1500.

The Conduit Now Interactive Number 52 September 2014- August 2015 Societies | lectures | conferences | groups | courses museums | archaeology | architecture local and family history Foreword In compiling The Conduit this year we have tried to be totally inclusive, but appreciate that some organisations may have been omitted and note that some societies have not been able to finalise their 2014-2015 programmes at the time of publication. In this case, readers are advised to consult the website of the relevant organisation. Email and website addresses, where known, are included in The Conduit, and users of the online version can click on the relevant hyperlinks. We aim to send The Conduit to every listed local society in Cambridgeshire, as well as to museums and other relevant organisations. If you belong to an organisation whose details are not included, or which would like to receive copies of The Conduit next year, please email the Editor, who will add your organisation’s details to the next issue. Wherever possible the information has been checked by a responsible individual in the relevant organisation, and so should be up to date at the time of printing. Further details of the activities of listed organisations are often available on their websites. I would finally like to thank the editor of The Conduit, Simon Barlow of the Haddon Library, for all his hard work in compiling and producing The Conduit this year. It is a considerable undertaking, but one that is very greatly valued, both by members of Cambridge Antiquarian Society and by others who use it to inform themselves of events and activities of interest across our richly historical county.
