Diana Petchell and the team at the Car Centre in Cambridge have once again organised a great Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief. With the help of the wider Marshall team an incredible £5,869.68 was raised to help those living with cancer. This is the second most successful Coffee Morning, only £16.32 short of the best ever total raised in 2008.

Having organised a Coffee Morning at the Car Centre for a number of years, Diana is constantly amazed at the donations received in aid of the event and commented; “I just can’t believe the superb prizes we had and the amount which was raised in what is a very difficult year financially. I think you’ll agree Marshall staff really are ‘THE BEST’.”

Cambridgeshire County Council Resolution

At a meeting of Cambridgeshire County Council held on 29th March the then Chairman, Councillor Linda Oliver, received unanimous agreement on the resolution that the Council recognised the unique contribution that the Marshall of Cambridge Group of Companies has made to Cambridgeshire for more than 100 years, both in economic terms, by the provision of local employment opportunities and the supply of goods and services, as well as by its direct and indirect investment in the local community.

The Leader of the County Council, Councillor Nick Clarke, said: "Marshall has made a unique contribution to Cambridgeshire and the national economy. There is no doubt that this company is a huge success story for Cambridgeshire and is well known nationally and internationally. Even though its clients are worldwide, it's still very much a family business at heart with the interests of Cambridgeshire residents and workforce in mind. It is this very success story that we want to encourage for the whole of Cambridgeshire as part of our vision for the county to be open for business, investing in growth and enabling companies to thrive here. Marshall has made a unique and very impressive contribution to the county and country over the last 100 years and we are delighted to recognise this with the presentation of this Framed Resolution."

10 Teamwork Winter 2011/12 Visit of UK MOD Chief of Defence Material The recently appointed UK MOD Chief of Defence Material, Bernard Gray, visited the Marshall Group at the beginning of October to find out more about what the Group does and how we support British Forces in Afghanistan. This was one of Mr Gray’s first visits to industry since assuming his position. During the visit he was shown both Marshall Land Systems’ and Marshall Aerospace’s facilities, was briefed on each part of the company’s capabilities and had a discussion on the future of defence procurement.

On arrival Robert was greeted by OC Forward Engineering Wing, Wg Cdr Simon Joy and then taken on a tour of the Hercules Integrated Operational Support (HIOS) and Tristar Integrated Operational Support (TRIOS) areas around the Unit. During the day he visited a number of key areas including Base Hangar, where 33 Eng Sqn Support and the HIOS Forward Maintenance Team are now based and where work is underway on aircraft undergoing scheduled maintenance activities.

The move to Brize was completed flawlessly over the course of six weeks. This included moving 1.8 million line items of spare parts into a new facility and the relocation of around 80 Marshall Aerospace people. As Robert says: “Relocation is very disruptive and I think that everybody can be extremely proud of the fact that we have actually improved our customer service during and after the move despite the incredible pressure the fleet of C-130s and TriStars has been under recently. It is a very impressive accomplishment.”

Winter 2011/12 Teamwork 11 LAND SYSTEMS Marshall Display at GBA2

A team from Marshall Land Systems has recently deployed as part of Team Castrum on GBA2, a demonstration of network concepts and standardisation for Forward Operating Bases, held at Caerwent, South Wales. During the demonstration to the MOD and other interested observers the team showed a generic base architecture (GBA) which enables information to be freely moved around a secure network and between FOBs providing commanders at all levels with operational and logistic data. During the exercise, Team Castrum, led by Selex Galileo Battlespace Solutions, demonstrated a family of fully networked, sustainable and deployable bases all interacting with one another. Marshall Land Systems’ presence was based on the core themes of Partner, Integrate, Manufacture and Support. “Requirements into solutions, collaborative working, rapid prototyping, systems engineering supported by well proven project management are at the centre of the Marshall Land Systems offering on our stand at DSEi this year,” said Peter Callaghan, Chief Executive of Marshall Land Systems. In addition to the main Marshall stand, we had a presence in the Vehicle Park area along with Iveco Defence and WEW where we demonstrated our ability to integrate assemblies together to provide a finished solution. An Iveco 6x6 Trakker vehicle was fitted with a Marshall load bed onto which was fitted a WEW fuel tank. Marshall Land Systems stand

In other parts of the show a Marshall load bed was fitted to the Force Protection Ocelot Utility Vehicle, and an Iveco Defence Trakker 8x8 was equipped with a Cargotec hook loader and a Marshall flat rack; all integrated by the company’s Vehicle Engineering team based in Mildenhall. MFS Gains Refcom F-Gas Certification Marshall Fleet Solutions has gained the new, full F-Gas company certification from REFCOM, the body appointed by DEFRA to operate and maintain a register of companies competent to handle certain fluorinated greenhouse refrigerants, set up in response to atmospheric damage caused by certain refrigerant gases. It validates the Marshall team of engineers as fully trained to City & Guilds standards and certified to work with fluorinated gases on large static equipment such as found in cold stores, in addition to the smaller plant and mobile equipment which it already works on. In order to be awarded the new full company certificate, each Marshall Fleet Solutions engineer has gained the latest City & Guilds (2079) Category 1 qualification which teaches him/her how to deal correctly with the leakage, recovery and removal of refrigerants, then how to recharge the system in which they operate. Keeping records is a key aspect of the training in terms of monitoring refrigerant quantities, location and type of usage, along with reporting procedures. MFS has gained the new, full F-Gas Andrew Howells, Managing Director of Marshall Fleet Solutions said: “The F-Gas certification company certification from REFCOM and backs up the training that we have in place for our 75-strong team of engineers; I believe it runs its own professional training facility adds value to what we offer already and keeps us right at the top of our game”. with full City & Guilds Accreditation.

Turner-Price Orders Refrigerated Units from Marshall Marshall Fleet Solutions has recently won a contract from Hull-based food service distributor Turner-Price, for the supply of T1000 Spectrums, the latest range of Thermo King refrigerated units designed to meet the gruelling demands of multi-temperature distribution.

“Turner- Price was looking to make savings on fuel and wanted to ensure that vehicles were off the road for less time; the T1000 Spectrum is equipped with a GreentechTM engine, which offers both low fuel consumption and low life cycle costs, with an increased time between service intervals. It was perfect for what they wanted,” said Andrew Howells, Managing Director of Marshall Fleet Solutions, “Marshall Fleet Solutions has been carrying out routine servicing for Turner-Price for some time.
