Instructions Sheet

General instructions 1. The academic year begins on Monday, 4 September 2006 and ends on Friday, 22 June 2007. 2. The College terms will be as follows: - first term : 4 September to 21 December 2006; - second term : 8 January to 22 June 2007. 3. The College halls of residence will be opened: - from: 2 September (12:00) until 22 December 2006 (12:00); - from: 6 January (12:00) until 24 June 2007 (12:00). 4. Upon arrival, students should go to the Reception in the Retinger residence where their rooms will be allocated to them by drawing lots. 5. The halls of residence at the College are not designed to house couples. All rooms at the halls of residence are exclusively for single students. 6. The student residence supplies sheets, blankets, towels. All rooms contain a private bathroom and all rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, direct dial telephones, TV sets and refrigerators. 7. Self-service laundry is available at the students’ disposal in each hall of residence. 8. The College cannot cater for any special diet. However, it attempts to provide as varied a range of food as possible, including vegetarian meals. The Campus Restaurant is open seven days a week. 9. Students pay a security deposit of € 125 upon their arrival at the College. This deposit will be reimbursed at the end of the academic year, provided the student has settled all debts, caused no damage and has returned the key of his/her room 10. The Natolin (Warsaw) Campus offers students to host their family members and in limited cases friends from abroad in students’ spare rooms as guests. This is not applicable to Polish students who have the possibility to travel home/visit friends more easily than non-PL students. The student receiving guests is responsible for arrangements (e.g. checking the availability of spare rooms; informing the College about the length of an expected visit) with the Head of Residence and for covering the costs of their guests. 11. The College provides twenty parking places for students upon prior notice. 12. Smoking is forbidden in the Restaurant, Library and Rectorate. 13. Pets are not allowed on campus. 14. The College offers students access to 25 computers in the Computer Rooms (accessible 24/24hours). However, students may bring their own computers which can be plugged in in the rooms of the residences in order to give students access to the local area network including library services, the Internet, the Intranet and the personal e-mail address. formalities and escrow charges. Students’ computers have to be equipped with a legal version of the software and with an antivirus programme. 15. Courses and seminars are held six days a week, from Monday to Saturday included. You should be prepared to accept this schedule and expect a relatively heavy workload. In exceptional cases courses and seminars can also take place on Sundays. 16. The two working languages of the College are English and French. A good working knowledge of both languages is a prerequisite for following the College programme with success. If your knowledge of either or both of these languages is below a Council of Europe B2 level, we kindly request that you take steps to improve it, preferably before arriving at the Natolin Campus. In September students have to complete supplementary language information documents, and will be interviewed to discuss language needs. There will be compulsory language courses during the first weeks of the academic year for all those showing weakness in their language skills in either English and/or French. 17. Academic regulations will be distributed upon arrival and will also be available in an electronic form on the Intranet. 18. Students wishing to ship luggage to the College may do so to the address indicated below. However, please note that luggage shipped by plane or boat often arrives after a considerable delay and may be subject to high customs fees and other charges, which cannot be paid by the College. 21. Permission for temporary stay in Poland 22. All students must register at the Commune Council Office/Warsaw-Wilanów. These formalities will take place in September and October 2006. 23. All students must hold a passport valid until the end of 2007 for all European countries. 24. Students from EU Member States, EEA member states and Switzerland do not need an entry visa to come to Poland. Once in Poland they will have to apply for a temporary permit of stay to legalise their stay. 25. Students from other countries should apply for a long term, multi-entry visa covering the entire time of their stay in Poland. 26. 27. In case, students from the EU, EEA or Switzerland and from other countries, did not receive a long term visa, they have to apply for a permit of stay (approximate cost: 10 € for EU, EEA, Swiss citizens, 100 € for citizens of other countries). The College of Europe cannot take responsibility for this procedure as every person has to present him/herself at the Immigration Department of the Mazovia Voivodship Office, Warsaw. Generally it takes around one month (for EU, EEA, Swiss citizens) or two months (for citizens of other countries) to obtain the permit. You should apply for the permit immediately after arriving in Poland.

Accidents - Illness - Personal Expenses 28. Students are requested to return the Guarantor Form duly completed and signed to the College. 29. Students are insured by the College only against accidents occurring on campus during their stay at the College or during official study trips organised by the College. 30. 30. Students are responsible for their own health coverage/own insurance. They should ask their insurance company about the extent of the insurance coverage with regard to illnesses, accidents and medical expenses and provide accordingly. Additionally, students should ensure that they bring along the necessary forms and documents. 31. Students are also expected to take out an insurance policy covering civil liability claims. 32. The College of Europe Natolin (Warsaw) campus does not provide travel costs to and from Warsaw. 33. Students studying at the College of Europe Natolin (Warsaw) campus are responsible for their own pocket money (e.g. phone expenses) and study material.

Fees - Reimbursement of Fees 34. All bank transfer costs are to be covered by the sender of a payment, thus the full amount of 16.800 € is received by the College of Europe Natolin campus. In general students must pay the fee before their arrival to the following bank account:

35. No reimbursement of scholarship fees can be guaranteed to any student once she/he has arrived in Natolin. College of Europe Academic year 2006-2007 Natolin (Warsaw) Campus

36. Nonetheless, should a fully or partially self-financing student choose to leave the College during the first two weeks of the academic year and should the College decide to accept a reserve candidate in that student's place, then a partial reimbursement of the fees paid by the student leaving the College may be made. The decision rests at the discretion of the College. 37. No reimbursement of lodging fees and costs for meals can be made.
