135384 Dalston Show Schedule 2019.indd 10 30/05/2019 14:32 Important Notice for the Attention of all Livestock Exhibitors The Society intends to provide a safe and healthy Show for all concerned and requires that Livestock Exhibitors fully comply with their responsibilities. Compliance with the Rules of the Society, HSE Guidelines, Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes is required. In addition: 1. Exhibitors must use the segregated areas for livestock movement, loading and unloading where provided and when requested to do so. Exercising must not take place within any public areas. 2. Compliance with HSE Guidance Notes GS36 Safe Handling of Bulls is required. 3. Children must not be allowed to have control of large or fractious animals and all animals must be kept under the control of a capable and experienced person or persons. 4. All riders of horses or donkeys must wear an approved riding hat complying to current British (BSI) or European standards at all times whilst mounted. 5. All portable generators, power equipment and cables must be protected by (a) 2 metre earthing rod or; (b) Residual Current Devices (RCD) set at no more than 30MA sensitivity. All cables and sockets must be adequately guarded for use. Use of power washers must be in compliance with HSE Guidance Note PM29. 6. The Society reserves the right to insist on immediate removal from the Show Field of any animal threatening the safety of any person or property. Major Emergency In the unlikely event of a major incident, return to your animals and listen carefully to any announcements being made. Important Notice for the Attention of all Trade Exhibitors The Society intends to provide a safe and healthy Show for all concerned and requires that Trade Exhibitors fully comply with their responsibilities. In addition, Trade Exhibitors are required to provide the Society with the following documents: • A Risk Assessment covering all their activities on the Showground (see note below) • Certificates of Public Liability insurance and, where appropriate, Employers’ Liability insurance (copies are sufficient but they must confirm cover to be in forice for the duration of your presence on the showground) In addition, compliance is required with the Rules of the Society and all relevant HSE guidelines, Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes. Specifically: 1. Machinery or equipment must only be operated by a person over the age of 16 years who is fully experienced in its use and wearing correct protective equipment. 2. All operating machinery must be properly guarded and exhibited in accordance with HSE SIM 1/2001/04. The use of pedestrian controlled grass-cutting equipment is permitted strictly within the area of your stand. The use of any other equipment must be authorised by the Society’s Safety Officer prior to use. The towing of vehicles or equipment by any means other than a fixed and rigid draw bar must also be pre-authorised and supervised by at least one person other than the driver of the vehicle. 3. The use of ATVs, motorcycles or other similar vehicles is prohibited unless authorised by the Safety Officer. If authority is granted, the correct protective equipment and headgear must be worn. 4. In relation to LPG, compliance with Guidance CS4 and C of P 7 is required. Only quantities of LPG sufficient for use on the Show Day must be brought on to the field. 5. Chemicals and substances which may be hazardous must be displayed only by means of empty and clean containers. 6. Exhibitors must provide adequate fire extinquishing appliances suitable for their stand and activities. 7. All portable generators must be protected by a 2m earthing rod or integral earthing device and also a Residual Current Device set at no more than 30 MA sensitivity. All connections should comply with IEE wiring regulations, trailing cables should be buried or covered using cable protectors and sockets must be glanded. 8. The use of inflatable play equipment is only allowed with prior permission and full compliance with HSE Information Sheet 7. Care must be taken to fully secure inflatables against bad weather. 9. The use or keeping of livestock on Trade Stands is not permitted unless prior consent is obtained from the Society. In the event of permission being granted, full compliance with rules and regulations relating to Livestock Exhibitors is required (a copy will be provided upon request) along with full compliance with appropriate regulations issued by DEFRA current at the time of the show. 10. All lifting work must be carried out in accordance with LOLER. 11 The Society reserves the right to inspect Exhibitor’s stands and any machinery or equipment brought on to the show field at any time. Note relating to Risk Assessments We require all Trade Exhibitors to submit a copy of their own Risk Assessment in advance of the Show otherwise entry to the field will not be allowed. The assessment must cover all the activities being carried out on the Exhibitor’s stand for the full duration of their presence on the field, i.e. to include setting up and dismantling as well as Show Day activity. If this is not possible you must sign and return a copy a Generic Risk Assessment which has been prepared by the Society. Please note that if you use this document it is entirely your responsibility to ensure it is adequate for your needs and covers all your activities. The Society will not accept any responsibility for errors, omissions or inaccuracies within the assessment. Major Emergency The Society has an Emergency Plan. In the unlikely event of a major emergency the plan requires you to return to your stand and listen carefully to instructions via the Public Address systems or from Emergency Service Providers or authorised Society Officers. 10 11

Its object being to promote the advancement of agriculture for the benefit of the public by holding an annual show at Dalston. 3. The Society will consist of a President, Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary and Ordinary Members sufficient to administer the annual show whom shall form a committee of management. 4. The Annual General Meeting to be held in Dalston during the month of February. 5. Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and Committee shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting. President, to be ex- officio member. 6. President, Chairman and Vice-Chairman shall be elected for a maximum of 2 years. 7. Any vacancies occurring on the committee after the Annual General Meeting may be filled by the Committee. 8. The Secretary shall provide at the Society's expense all such books and stationery as are necessary for the use of the Society and the Treasurer shall keep fair accounts of all monies received and dispersed by him; the said accounts to be passed by the Auditors and presented by the Treasurer at each Annual Meeting. 9. All cheques must be signed by the Treasurer and either the Chairman or the Secretary. 10. In General or Committee Meetings, the Chairman to have a second or casting vote. 11. The Business of the Annual General Meeting shall be the appointment of the officers and a Committee of Management and revising, altering or amending the Rules of the Society; but no alteration shall be made in these Rules except at a General Meeting, providing that no alteration shall be made that will cause the Society to cease to be a charity at law. 12. A general show of Livestock, Improved Implements of Husbandry and such other objects as the Committee of Management think fit shall take place at Dalston each year when the premiums will be awarded to the successful competitors by the Judges appointed. 13. The Judges of the Show will be appointed by the Committee and all their reasonable expenses defrayed by the Society. 14. Members of the Society shall be admitted to the Annual Show without charge on production of such tickets as the Committee shall order. 15. If upon winding up or dissolution of the Society there remains after the settling of all liabilities any property whatsoever this shall not be paid to or distributed among Members of the Society but shall be given or transferred to such other charity or charities established for similar purposes as the Society shall decide.

SHOWING RULES 1. That all entries to be sent to the Secretary fourteen days before the Show with a full description of each entry and must be prepaid or the entry will be rejected. 2. The decision of the Judges as to the Premiums awarded shall be final with regard to all points of merit and in no case shall a premium be awarded unless the Judges deem the exhibits of sufficient merit more especially if only one lot is presented. 3. Protests, accompanied by £5 to be lodged with the Society must be made to the Secretary in writing by 5pm on the day of the Show and all disputes will be settled by the Committee whose decision will be final and without appeal. And in any case where the protest is frivolous and not sustained the money to be forfeited to the Society. 4. The age of all the animals shown for the Society's Premiums will be taken from the day of their birth up to the day of the Show. All brood mares to have a foal at foot or produce a foal; and all cows and heifers shown as in-calf to produce a calf. 5. The stock exhibited shall not be distinguished in the showing ring by the name of the breeder, feeder or owner, except by ticket number affixed to each lot, corresponding with the list made out by the Secretary, until the premiums are awarded. 6. All animals must be on the ground by 9.00am and must not be removed from there until after the Parade of Prize Animals. 7. No competitors shall exhibit any animal unless it comes strictly under the Rules of the Society, and he shall be required to produce proof of the same if necessary. Any person giving a false certificate of age or breeding will be expelled from the Society and forfeit any premium won the day of the Show, if it can be proved to the satisfaction of the Committee that deception has been wilfully practised. 8. That no judge officiate at this Show if they have Judged during the same season the same class at another event staged in the 'Old County of Cumberland. 9. That no person be allowed in the ring except the Judges, the Officials and the person in charge of the exhibit. 10. All vehicles to be parked as directed by the show stewards. 11. The strictest order upon the Show Ground will be enforced. 12. Any person in charge of stock etc., refusing to attend to the directions of the stewards will be subject to a penalty of £10 which will be recoverable from the owner of such stock. The owner of the stock will be responsible for all accidents arising from their not being in the place assigned by the stewards or from being unmanageable or vicious. 13. By signing the entry form, exhibitors accept that the Society will share their data, if necessary, with various bodies and breed societies in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations. Data will be published on show day, in our Show Programme, on the Society's website, within internet pages, social media, other marketing outlets and given to the local press with regards to the show day results. No competitors allowed into a 'ridden class' once the trot command has been given, and once the last horse has trotted out in the 'in hand' classes. The Society reserves the right to split or amalgamate classes where deemed necessary. Equine Influenza - All horses and ponies should be vaccinated against Equine Influenza within the six months prior to the show, passports will be spot checked by the Head Stewards. The Show's Veterinary Officers will carry out regular checks of the Horse Lines and the Stewards, at their direction, are empowered to require any horse or pony showing clinical signs of Equine Influenza to be immediately removed from the Showground. In the event of a serious outbreak prior to the Show, the Show reserves the right to require Vaccination Certificates to be produced prior to admitting animals to the Showground.

Look through this booklet (schedule) and decide which classes you want to enter. 2. Keep entries for the Industrial classes (baking, floral art etc. in the Marquee) and Agricultural classes(all horse, cattle, sheep and vintage) on separate entry forms. 3. Fill in the form (e.g. Class No., Entry Fee). Please Note: Children's and stated OAP. classes do not need to be paid for. 4. If a number of people are entering please USE ONE ENTRY FORM PER PERSON. 5. Send your entry form and money for the fees to the appropriate secretary, on or before Friday 26th July. 6. In the week prior to the Show you will be sent Green Tickets. These all need to be filled in with your name and address (for children add their age for childrens classes only). They should be folded so that the name is concealed until after judging. Please secure the ticket to your entry (exhibit) so that it can be identified. 7. On Show Day take your entries to the Marquee before l0am. 8. If you are dropping your industrial entries off by car,PLEASE use the Townhead Road Entrance (Gate 5).
