In the early sixties, Dwan introduced artists such as , Claes Oldenberg, and to Los Angeles, and then worked with , , and others upon her move to New York in 1965. Language: Collection material is in English Biographical / Historical Note Virignia Dwan owned and operated two influential galleries, in Los Angeles and New York. The galleries were known for showing minimalist, earthwork, and conceptual art by primarily New York and French artists. Dwan operated the Los Angeles gallery space from 1959 to 1967 and the New York gallery from 1965 to 1971. In the early sixties, Dwan introduced artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Claes Oldenberg, and Yves Klein to Los Angeles, and then worked with Robert Smithson, Michael Heizer, and others upon her move to New York in 1965. Acquired in 2012 and 2013. Processing History The collection was rehoused by Vladimira Stefura upon receipt in 2011. It was arranged and described by Maggie Hughes in 2012 under the supervision of Andra Darlington. Two additional posters were donated in 2013 and integrated into the collection in 2018. Scope and Content of Collection The collection is comprised of 57 items which includes ephemera and publications that document exhibitions held at the Dwan galleries from 1960 to 1971, roughly split between the New York and Los Angeles locations. Materials include exhibition catalogs, fliers, pamphlets, and posters. Arrangement Items are arranged chronologically by exhibition date. Files are labeled with the artist name, exhibition title, and the exhibition date. If the title of the exhibition was the artists' name, it has been omitted. Subjects - Names Snelson, Kenneth
