Umbrellas were sometimes as fre- quent among parade participants (see photo at right) as they were among parade spectators.

Girl Scouts were one of the first units in the parade Saturday morning, and they had varying degrees of warmth for the cool, damp morning. Below, protective helmets at least kept the BMX bike riders’ heads dry, not so much for the rest of them.

Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington presented a traditional manger scene, complete with shepherds, Mary, and Joseph. The manger’s “roof” provided some relief from some of the rain. The church’s pastor, Boyd Pickard, is in the center.

Crowd favorites, regardless of weather, include dance teams (right), cheer teams (middle, up- per right), and the horses and rid- ers (far right) at the end of the parade.
