Meanwhile, Ward and Yardley's investigation stirs up deep- rooted issues of race and acceptance which could cause serious consequences for everyone involved. Written by napierslogs. The Paperboy A rough The Paperboy crude backwater view of Louisiana folk and the crossing of paths of a convicted criminal and several local people with mixed pasts. It's what a friend of mine would maybe call The Paperboy swamp story--and The Paperboy that he meant all the messy, mired personal histories of a group of The Paperboy getting in the way and making for high drama. In this case it becomes literally the swamps of the Gulf Coast and The Paperboy pretty harrowing scenes result. The three leads are huge stars, and all are portrayed in a gritty, sometimes very unattractive way. The Paperboy Kidman plays a trashy rural woman well, coming on to those who can't resist and then The Paperboy in trouble big trouble with one of them. Matthew McConaughey is a troubled reporter and he ends up in worse shape than The Paperboy Kidman partly because it takes longer to get him there. And John Cusack plays a convincing psycho criminal, released in time to make mayhem for the rest of the cast. There is also an odd small role by David Oyelowo, who has a voice so much like Sidney Poitier it's surprising. So this swamps story with a stellar cast seems to have potential, and it even is structured in an inventive way with a disjointed arranging of the narrative pieces, some shaky camera, and so on. But director and screenwriter, and producer The Paperboy to make a muck of it all. The plot doesn't seem terribly complicated but it's weirdly The Paperboy to completely follow. The motivations of the characters--from the writer to the woman to another younger man who has sexual needs that seem weirdly bottled up--are never clarified. People act in disturbing ways and you're curious as can be but you never quite know why things are happening, except maybe from Cusak's character since he's supposed to be nuts and he acts it. You keep groping for sense to it, or at least artful non-sense, and it doesn't gel. Some of the dialog is forced, as well, so The Paperboy all the realistic grit you are thrust away from realism at the same time. I'm The Paperboy the book is terrific, The Paperboy there is something great going on here behind all the broken parts. Daniels is behind the disturbing but well made movie, "Precious," and so I expected something more together on this one. It's as if he's traded sensation for meaning, and for me it's a false and frustrating trade. Looking for something to watch? No one very admirable. One character is a journalist concerned with telling the truth, but he loses out to a less honest one; this character eventually exhibits some fairly low behavior. Other characters give in to their various sexual obsessions, causing people to get hurt. Several brutal murders, usually committed by The Paperboy or slicing with knives. The Paperboy characters die. A woman is treated violently and murdered off screen. One dead body is shown with its entrails hanging out. A main character is shown hog-tied and naked, victimized in some unknown way; he's beaten and bloody with a huge puddle of blood on the floor. Dead animals mainly alligators are shown, their guts sliced out. There's a scene of violent sex, and it's unclear whether the woman is experiencing pleasure or pain perhaps both. The woman also has sex with two other characters, one off screen and the other only briefly shown, with no nudity. There's a bizarre sexual scene in which The Paperboy woman visits a man in prison, and they both reach orgasm merely by looking at each other. Zac Efron is often shown naked except for The Paperboy "tighty whitie" underwear. Matthew McConaughey is shown partly naked mostly his bottom. Strong innuendo throughout, and other images of sex in a car and brief toplessness a teen girl. Strong, constant language is probably about half sexual innuendo. Words include "f--k" and "motherfer," "s--t," "c--k," "bitch," "ass," "vagina," the "N" word, "blow job," "piss," "goddamn," and "fag. Main characters smoke cigarettes throughout and are seen drinking in bars. In some scenes, characters get somewhat drunk. In one particular scene, a main character -- following a violent attack that leaves his face disfigured -- locks himself inside for a long, destructive drinking binge. He's shown staggering drunk, bottles everywhere, and a horrible smell is described. Parents and caregivers: Set limits for violence and more with Plus. Parents need to know that The Paperboy is a '60s-set thriller from Precious director Lee Daniels about several volatile relationships surrounding a convicted murderer. It's astoundingly violent, with lots of bloody murders and The Paperboy of torture and blood. Nudity isn't prevalent though viewers do see both naked tops and bottomsbut sex is: One main female character has sex with three other The Paperboy, and one scene is very violent it's not clear whether she's experiencing pleasure, pain, or both. Language is likewise The Paperboy, with pointed uses of "f--k," "s--t," and the "N" word, as well as tons of sexual innuendo. There's also heavy drinking. There are no role models here, and not much to be learned. Charlotte Bless Nicole Kidman also tags along; she's written to Hillary in prison, has fallen in love with him, and plans to marry him when he gets out. Unfortunately, Ward's younger brother, Jack Zac Efronwho's recruited to drive this motley crew around, has fallen for The Paperboy. This volatile combination will most certainly lead to trouble, but will it also lead to murder? One of this film's big mistakes is the casting of Efron, who may be easy on the eyes but has barely any personality; whenever he's on-screen, which The Paperboy most of the movie, the scenes deflate. He can't sustain any dramatic tension with his co-stars. Otherwise, Daniels' uneven, lopsided narrative goes too far in spots The Paperboy not nearly far enough in others. He fails to generate any suspense, and, despite all of the movie's sex, fails to titillate. The only thing The Paperboy does manage is a general sense of unpleasantness. The Paperboy ago, there was a subgenre of drive-in and exploitation movies about a frightening class of horrible people The Paperboy lived in The Paperboy. The Paperboy could have been one of these, except that it doesn't feel like anyone is having much fun. Unfortunately, he can't. Families can talk about The Paperboy 's violence. Why is it so extreme? The Paperboy is a American crime drama film co-written and directed by Lee Daniels The Paperboy based on The Paperboy Dexter 's novel of the same name. The novel was inspired by a The Paperboy story. It follows Miami reporter Ward Jansen who returns to his hometown in Florida to investigate a racial murder case involving a death row inmate. Anita, the former maid of the Jansen family, recounts the events of the summer of when Ward Jansen, an idealistic reporter, came back to his hometown of Lately in Moat County, Florida, to investigate the events surrounding the murder of a violent and unscrupulous The Paperboy sheriff, Thurmond Call. Hillary Van Wetter, a swamp-dwelling alligator hunter and small-time criminal, is on death row for his murder. Ward and his colleague, Englishman Yardley Acheman, both investigative reporters with The Miami Times are back to help exonerate him. Charlotte Bless, from Mobile, Alabamahad fallen in love with Van Wetter after only The Paperboy correspondence. They had never met but she was determined to prove his innocence and get him released so they could marry. Ward has mixed feelings about returning home to his estranged father who runs a local newspaper and distributes The Miami Times in their town. Both Jansen brothers dislike their father's latest girlfriend, Ellen. Jack works as a paperboy for The Paperboy father's business after having been expelled from college for emptying the pool. That ended his prospective career as a professional swimmer. His only The Paperboy friend is Anita who helped Ward bring up Jack after their mother left them. Meanwhile, Jack has fallen in love with Charlotte who tells him she loves Van Wetter. One day at the beach, The Paperboy gets stung by many jellyfish and has a life-threatening allergic The Paperboy. Charlotte saves his life by urinating on him, an embarrassing situation. His father promptly exploits this in an The Paperboy in his newspaper that he has made Ellen Editor-in-Chief of. Van Wetter is The Paperboy to the reporters at first. Contrary to the romantic portrayal he had painted of himself in his letters to Charlotte, he reveals himself to be racist, sexist and crude. One day after finally acquiring some potentially useful information from Van Wetter, the Jansens travel to meet Van Wetter's Uncle Tyree. Tyree is The Paperboy only one who can corroborate Van Wetter's alibi. According to Van Wetter, the two men were stealing sod from a golf course in Ormond Beach the night of the murder. Tyree, who lives in pitiful conditions in the middle of the swamp with his " white trash " family, is initially ill-disposed to admitting his own crime to save his nephew's life, but finally says it is true. In the meantime, Yardley and Charlotte visit the golf course to verify that side of the story. Yardley comes back claiming to have tracked the developer who bought the sod stolen by Van Wetter The Paperboy his uncle. The man only agreed The Paperboy talk upon a guarantee of anonymity, so Yardley refuses to disclose his name even to Ward. Satisfied with his findings, Yardley goes back to Miami to start writing the article. Suspicious of Yardley's motives Ward decides to check the truth in Ormond Beach himself with Jack and Charlotte in tow. On the way Ward gets drunk at a bar and approaches a black man. During the night, Charlotte wakes up Jack after hearing The Paperboy sounds from Ward's room. Ward is taken to the hospital. While Ward is still in The Paperboy hospital, Jack goes to Miami to try to convince Yardley not to publish the article in his brother's name without checking The Paperboy the facts first. During the confrontation, Yardley reveals he's actually an American pretending to be English to escape discrimination. He also reveals The Paperboy had given Ward sexual favors in the past, which was the The Paperboy of Ward's guilty, self-hating infatuation with black men. Jack does not resent Ward for secretly being a homosexual or for "what he was into," but just for keeping this side of his adult life from him. After the article is published Yardley leaves for New York with a book deal. Van Wetter obtains a pardon and is released from prison. He arrives at Charlotte's residence, violently rapes her and takes The Paperboy to the swamp to live with him. Months later she is unhappy with the abusive, demeaning lifestyle and sends a letter to Jack telling him she realizes she made a mistake and plans to reunite with him at his father's wedding reception. However, Jack receives the letter The Paperboy the reception from Anita one month later. Charlotte is not at the wedding. Worried, Jack leaves the party to go rescue her with Ward who is now an alcoholic. Jack dives into the swamp and evades Van Wetter all The Paperboy. Anita concludes the narration by revealing Van Wetter was later convicted for the murders of Ward and Charlotte and sent to the electric chair, yet the sheriff's murder was never solved. Jack later saw his mother at Ward's funeral. He would never get over Charlotte. After the critical acclaim for his previous film PreciousDaniels was sent many possible scripts for a follow up including several lucrative offers. Daniels was initially nervous about meeting Kidman although he calmed down once she told him "I'm just a working girl, Lee. You've got to direct me. Although neither the actors involved nor Daniels had any problem with filming the scene, Daniels admitted The Paperboy getting cold feet while editing and consulted with Kidman about possibly removing the scene who reportedly told him ""Lee, you made me pee on Zac Efron. If you don't put it in the movie, you need to man up. The film premiered on the 65th Cannes Film Festival on May 28,to mixed reviews. Robbie Collin at The Daily Telegraph wrote that "Readers of the film's Wikipedia page may spot the claim that it received 'the longest sustained standing ovation of the festival at 16 minutes'. As someone who was The Paperboy at that screening, and the cacophonous quarter-hour of jeering, squawking and mooing that followed, I think Wikipedia may want to clarify its definition of 'standing ovation'. It makes a lurid splash. Reception to The Paperboy has been mixed with some critics comparing it to Lee Daniels ' directorial debut, Shadowboxer. Robbie Collin of The Daily Telegraph disliked the film at its Cannes premiere, but positively reappraised it almost a year later on its UK release. Thank goodness I finally got it," he wrote. It is this very style backed by intelligence, undeniable directorial skill, and an intimate knowledge of his deeply flawed but very human characters that make for such a compelling film. The website's critics consensus reads: "Trashy and melodramatic, The Paperboy is enlivened by a strong cast and a steamy, sordid plot, but it's uneven and often veers into camp. The staff of The A.
