WEMBLEY PARK IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING JOB EXTENSIVE REGENERATION, LED BY DEVELOPER QUINTAIN, WHICH IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF PURPOSE THE SITE, INCLUDING MANAGEMENT AND OPERATION OF 5,000 NEW HOMES VIA ITS BUILD TO RENT BUSINESS, TIPI.

The new role of Cultural Director will lead the establishment of Wembley Park Arts, a new cultural programme for Wembley Park that ensures leadership across commissioning, co-production, cultural infrastructure support and developing local, national and international partnerships. Wembley Park Arts will be established with seed funding for programming that the Cultural Director will be expected to leverage to generate additional fundraising. The role involves government, community and sector stakeholder management and leadership. It will coincide with Wembley Park’s involvement with Brent’s year as Borough of Culture 2020 and the legacy of that programme. Strong networks, cultural trust and a desire to work in private-public partnership structures with sponsorship funding make this opportunity unique in London. Quintain seeks a leader that can attract cultural partnerships and co-production to grow cultural ambitions and support a new model of cultural delivery.

Wembley Park is a dynamic new cultural neighbourhood being created in North West London. Building on the international reputation for music and sporting events for which the area is known, Wembley Park is fast becoming a landmark destination with culture, entertainment and a community at its heart. It includes homes, shops, and places to work, as well as attractive public spaces, with parks and gardens adding to the squares and wide boulevards already created. When completed, nearly half of the 85-acre site will be gardens and public open space.

Wembley Park already comprises the 12,500 capacity THE SSE ARENA, WEMBLEY, which in 2019 will celebrate its 60th anniversary as a music venue; (LDO), which includes 70 high street outlet stores, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and a 9 screen Cineworld cinema, 1,750 new homes and four hotels.

BOXPARK WEMBLEY, the largest Boxpark to date, opened in December 2018, has brought independent and established street food traders to the area, as well as 200 events throughout the year. TROUBADOUR WEMBLEY PARK THEATRE, a new flexible 1,000-2,000 seat capacity theatre has been created inside the former Fountain Studios and will welcome the National Theatre’s War Horse later this year. Event infrastructure is embedded in the public realm across Wembley Park forming cultural platforms that range from intimate pocket parks to stages, plazas and processions for large-scale participation events and spectaculars. To date these have hosted programmes such as International Busking Day, outdoor summer film screenings and the LIGHT UP THE NIGHT FESTIVAL.

Wembley Park is fast establishing its credentials as a new creative hub for North West London, and is a key strategic partner of Brent Borough of Culture 2020. The ambitious cultural strategy for the area includes affordable artist studios, run by Second Floor Studios & Arts, a public art programme and extensive cultural programming and events, most of which are available free of charge. 2019 will see the launch of the Wembley Park Arts programme, with an independent curatorial team raising the scale and ambition of cultural commissioning for the neighbourhood.

With 5,750 NEW HOMES being created by developer Quintain, in addition to the 1,750 already built, Wembley Park is one of the largest and most exciting urban developments in Europe. Around 5,000 of the homes being created at Wembley Park are build-to-rent properties managed by TIPI, Quintain’s lifestyle-focused rental management company, which also oversees management of resident lounge spaces and services. Customer service, estate management, cultural and events programming and security all managed by one single point of contact, ensuring a seamless service and effortless quality living.

THE YELLOW is Wembley Park’s community centre and provides an extensive weekly programme of community activities where visitors can learn new skills at regular workshops and enjoy free fitness classes.

THE CORNER is a space for creative learning and development housed within Wembley Library and provides a range of free courses, workshops and events.

• Degree level or equivalent experience in QUALIFICATIONS performing or visual arts.

• Professional qualifications or participation in EXPERIENCE the London cultural scene.

SKILLS • Interest in working outside traditional cultural institutions.

• Skill/evidence of collaborative working approaches.

• Experience working across disciplines and desire to generate programming in non-traditional venues.

• Ability to support non-traditional and traditional spaces (studios, recording studios, performance space).

• Financial and business acumen, and experience of managing significant budgets.

• Experience of developing portfolios from public, private and earned income sources.

• A knowledge of the City’s priorities and the international arts and design sector.

• Experience in running panels, selection committees and community engagement.

• Experience identifying opportunities and understanding how culture can deliver diverse impacts across departments of a complex organisation.

• Management experience.

• Motivating teams outside direct line-management is a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION • The role is based at Wembley Park. • The role will operate on a 37.5 hour week, worked five days over seven. The nature of the role means that flexibility is required including working evenings and weekends.
