A Couple of Years Ago, I Read Or Re-Read a Lot of Bridge Books, and Received a Number of Leads for Some Books I’D Never Even Heard Of When researching my series Bridge in Literature for English Bridge magazine (*) a couple of years ago, I read or re-read a lot of bridge books, and received a number of leads for some books I’d never even heard of. So if you enjoy bridge books, whether instructional, biographical or fictional, the following list should give you some ideas for your Christmas list. Many of these are available second- hand via the usual online resources, and some of them are available new or recently reprinted. Bridge Andrew Mollo and Nico Gardener Bridge for Beginners Card Play Technique Bridge in the Menagerie Andrew Robson Any of the Bridge Lessons series, 20 booklets What Should Have Happened A Pack of Dos and Don’ts Terence Reese Play Bridge with Me The Expert Game Michelle Brunner Bridge with Brunner: Acol for Improvers Bridge with Brunner: Acol for Budding Experts David Bird Winning NT Leads Ten Ways to Improve Your Bridge Winning Duplicate Tactics …and many, many more Paul Mendelson The Golden Rules of Bridge 121 Tips for Better Bridge Rixi Markus Bid Boldly, Play Safe Skid Simon Why You Lose at Bridge Fiction Louis Sahar The Cardturner Agatha Christie Cards on the Table Richard Powell Tickets to the Devil Sandy Balfour Vulnerable in Hearts Biography / History Zia Mahmood Bridge My Way Rixi Markus A Vulnerable Game Rex Mackey The Walk of the Oysters Terence Reese Story of an Accusation Alan Truscott The Great Bridge Scandal [these two books best read together… then you can decide?!] (*) See the English Bridge archive on the EBU website for the six editions where the Bridge in Literature articles first appeared from April 2014 to February 2015. Sadly, the well- researched quiz that concluded the series was suppressed in the online edition for “copyright reasons”, but the original questions (12 bridge-related quotations) are available on request. Weber: Equality Standards for Health Insurance Coverage ARTICLE EQUALITY STANDARDS FOR HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE: WILL THE MENTAL HEALTH PARITY AND ADDICTION EQUITY ACT END THE DISCRIMINATION? ELLEN WEBER Congress enacted the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act in 2008 to end discriminatory health insurance coverage for persons with mental health and substance use disorders in large employer health plans. Adopting a comprehensive regulatory approach akin to that of other civil rights laws, the Parity Act requires “equity” in all plan features, including cost-sharing, durational limits and, most critically, the plan management practices that are used to deny many families medically necessary behavioral health care. Beginning in 2014, all health plans regulated by the Affordable Care Act must also comply with parity standards, effectively ending the second-class insurance status of persons with these disorders.
