Urban Service Learning (USL) Combining academic study, community engagement, and critical reflection, this core requirement for all Booth UC students gives you the chance to gain skills and volunteer experiences that educate your heart while building your resumé and helping those most in need. The unique USL curriculum explores social issues such as homelessness, exploitation, poverty, inequality, and other forms of injustice. Expanding beyond the classroom into the heart of Winnipeg, students study and reflect together on the root causes of injustice while gaining valuable work/volunteer experience.

4 NEW Diploma in Business Administration The 2-year Diploma in Business Administration is designed to provide students with foundational competence in the key areas of business in combination with a liberal arts background. This program is designed for those who are looking for a program shorter than a four year degree but seek the knowledge and skills to help them gain entry into an organization in the for-profit or not-for-profit area, or for those looking for some foundation elements to aid them in starting their own business. Upon completion of this program students may continue on to complete their four year Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Bachelor of Arts: Behavioural Sciences The Behavioural Sciences program provides you with a unique focus that combines sociology (the study of social behaviour), psychology (the study of mind and behaviour), and a general foundation in the social sciences. Studying sociology will help you develop a perspective sensitive to the social forces that shape you and your world. You'll see education, politics, economics, religion, culture, and Canadian society in new ways. The study of psychology will enable you to appreciate individual differences and how people’s behaviour is shaped by biology and culture. You will wrestle with the nature of the mind, intelligence, consciousness, memory, and personal identity. What can I do with my Degree? Bachelor of Arts: English & Film Studies The English & Film Studies degree is an interdisciplinary program that will unite your passion for film and theatre with your love for reading, writing, and language. Naturally, you will devote a lot of time to reading texts and viewing films; discussing their meaning and importance. Your interest in culture and creativity will be brought to new levels as you explore a wide range of texts in their cultural and historical context, from Shakespeare to science fiction and contemporary Hollywood to cutting-edge TV. With a General Studies degree you can pursue a career in numerous fields, including entry level positions in social services, public relations, government, retail , business or event planning. Studying psychology will help you understand yourself and others. You’ll develop critical thinking and sound analytical skills; effective communication, interpersonal active-listening and intercultural communication skills; and self-understanding. If you are naturally curious and constantly in search of knowledge, psychology would be a natural fit. One of the most popular undergraduate options, psychology is an interesting, exciting, and challenging major. What can I do with my Degree? With a psychology degree you can pursue a career in areas such as labour relations, social services, health services, mental health, personnel, corrections, and so much more. If interested in psychology as a career (including research careers, such as a university professor or as a practicing psychologist), this undergraduate degree is a required stepping stone to graduate-level studies. A degree in psychology also provides excellent preparation for those interested in professional programs such as social work, education, or law.

Bachelor of Arts: Religion Religion has been and continues to be a major influence in the world. It affects every aspect of the human experience: history, culture, politics, economics, science, philosophy, and more. An adequate understanding of the world requires some knowledge of its various faith traditions. What do people believe and what do they practice in diverse religious communities around the globe? How does religion inform and shape their lives? What does religion contribute to their societies? How does it provide life with meaning, wisdom, ethical responsibility, and beauty? Studying religion enables us to ask, think about and answer these kinds of complex and important questions.

What can I do with my Degree? Numerous career paths are open to graduates with a Religion degree; including church ministry, social services, management, administration, and politics. This degree can also be used as a stepping stone to pursue further studies in professional fields such as law, medicine, teaching, or journalism.

Bachelor of Business Administration Why Business Administration? A career in business is captivating, challenging, and rewarding. Given today’s global complex business world there is a strong demand for skilled, ethical, and engaged global business professionals who have the ability to assess and take reasonable risks. This program will provide you with critical thinking skills and practical business knowledge that opens up a wide range of career opportunities in for-profit or not-for-profit organizations. While exposing students to the arts and sciences, it focuses on establishing competence in five basic areas of business: marketing, accounting, finance, organizational behaviour & production operations, and human resource management. Graduates can pursue a career in numerous areas, including finance, accounting, project management, marketing, human resources, public relations, or not-for-profit management. Bachelor of Social Work The Bachelor of Social Work program prepares students to facilitate change in individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. Social workers seek to improve quality of life and well-being, advocate for principles of social justice and equality for the oppressed and vulnerable, work to remove structural disadvantage, and create opportunities for people to develop their own skills and resources to reach their own goals. This program is available in a four-year degree program and a two-year after degree program, with a strong emphasis on clinical skills courses. Students typically gain more than 800 hours of practical field experience and benefit from the unique way we match our students to their placement sites. What can I do with my Degree? This degree opens numerous doors to careers in areas such as advocacy, counselling, facilitation, mediation, administration, and policy analysis. You can also work in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, rehabilitation programs, child welfare settings, family services agencies, treatment centres, and criminal justice settings. Social workers also work with people affected by issues like addictions, mental health concerns, disabilities, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, violence, trauma, health issues, or crime.

Certificate in Advanced Leadership for Congregations The two-year Certificate in Advanced Leadership for Congregations is designed to strengthen the capacity of Salvation Army personnel serving in corps appointments. Given the complexity in corps ministry units, the program is designed to build upon the previous learning and/or experience and to strengthen skills necessary to succeed.

This program is designed for Salvation Army officers in corps appointments, as well as laity serving as pastors in corps appointments who face the same complexities in corps service; who have a previously acquired knowledge and experience comparable to a commissioned officer; and whose service to The Salvation Army would be enhanced by participation in this program. The Certificate is not appropriate for lay leaders needing to develop foundational skills for congregational leadership.

Certificate in Applied Leadership Today's increasingly complex and rapidly changing world calls for a new leadership framework. The Certificate in Applied Leadership is a premium 9-month program that is highly interactive and provides rich opportunities for the deep and direct application of the program learning outcomes. This professional development opportunity will help leaders develop and apply the personal mastery, relational capacities, and necessary mindsets needed to achieve excellence in an era of complexity. Through the combination of hands-on experience and applied learning activities, leaders will cultivate new ways of thinking, acting, and being, and develop and apply whole-systems and collaborative leadership approaches. This program is open to anyone interested in strengthening and enhancing their leadership skills through meaningful hands-on experience. Certificate in Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care The two-year Certificate in Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care program equips students with the concepts and skills required for effective ministry in chaplaincy and spiritual care in a variety of settings. Students will be provided with an orientation to the ministry of chaplaincy and spiritual care, and will develop an awareness of the various contexts in which chaplains and spiritual care-givers minister. They will also develop pastoral care skills that are essential for active ministry. This program is offered through learning cohorts of twenty individuals. Students will begin and complete the required and elective courses together. There is a mix of online and hybrid courses. This program is open to anyone interested in a career in chaplaincy and spiritual care. A new cohort starts every September.

Certificate in KROC Center Leadership The Certificate in KROC Center Leadership is an 8-month program of studies covering five distinct areas: leadership and strategy for KROC centers, human resource management for KROC centers, operations and programs for KROC centers, financial management for KROC centers, and a capstone course that includes practicum experiences at KROC centers. It is offered in a cohort structure. This program is designed specifically for leaders of The Salvation Army’s Ray and Joan KROC Centers or those preparing for leadership in KROC Centers. Participants must be approved by their Division/Territory.

Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management The two-year Certificate in Not-for-Profit management is offered through learning cohorts of twenty individuals. This certificate program has online courses covering four significant themes of business management and administration: Human Resources, Program Design and Management, Financial Management, and Strategic Planning and Leadership. A series of three face-to-face intensive sessions at Booth University College over the two-year period of the certificate program will supplement online learning with specific Salvation Army policies and procedures relating to these themes. Additionally, the intensive sessions will serve as the basis for a distinct capstone course engaging certificate participants in a project relevant to their ministry context. Salvation Army personnel will serve as instructors and final project coaches during the face-to-face intensives course periods.

This program is designed specifically for Salvation Army personnel. A new cohort starts every August.

17 BoothUC.ca/SCS Bachelor of Arts (General) Biblical and Theological Studies Major This CFOT Integrated Program is offered in cooperation with the College for Officer Training. During the portion of the program that is taken at CFOT, students prepare for Commissioning and Ordination as Salvation Army Officers. After the completion of the CFOT component of the program, students finish their bachelor degree requirements directly with Booth University College. The bachelor degree program prepares students for Salvation Army officership by providing them with foundational knowledge in Biblical and Theological studies, an understanding of the contemporary world, and the ministry skills necessary for their work as Salvation Army Officers. This degree program is only available to individuals enrolled in The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in the Canada and Bermuda Territory. Masters of Theological Studies (MTS) in Salvation Army Studies Gain a deeper understanding of The Salvation Army within the broader church while you analyze social and moral issues and explore the global mission of the Army in today’s world. This unique degree, jointly designed by Booth University College and Tyndale Seminary, is a specialized, contextualized graduate theological degree. It is the only graduate theological program in the world to offer a specialization in Salvation Army studies. This Tyndale-based graduate degree is accredited with the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada. Graduates will receive their degree from Tyndale and a Certificate of Expertise in Salvation Army Studies from Booth University College.
