Meydana gelen bu açığın kapatılması için uzun yıllardır su ürünleri yetiştiriciliği teşvik edilmektedir. Su ürünleri yetiştiricilik sektörü büyüme ile gelen sorunlar ile karşı karşıyadır. Çevresel kaygılardan dolayı denizel işletmelerin kıyıdan uzaklara taşınması gerekmiştir. Ülkemiz dünyada yaşanan bu değişimlere karşı kayıtsız kalmamış ve denizel yetiştiricilik işletmelerini açık denizlere taşımıştır. Emeğin yoğun olduğu bir sektör olarak istihdam boyutu önemli olan sektör tehlikelere ve kazalara açık hale gelmiştir. Denizel işletmelerde istihdam edilen çalışanlar bugün, kıyıda olduklarından çok daha fazla risk ve tehlike içerisinde olup kanunlarla belirtilen işçi sağlığı ve güvenliği konusunda işverenler tarafından acil önlemler alınmak durumundadır. Bu çalışmada söz konusu tehlikeler ile oluşan risklere yönelik önlemler incelenmeye çalışılacaktır. Konu mümkün olduğu kadar uluslararası boyutu ile karşılaştırmalı olarak irdelenecektir. Prof. Dr. Hülya ŞEREFLİŞAN Animal protein resources have been decreasing due to various constraints and fisheries also facing this complex problem. In terms of food security and healthy nutrition rights of human being it has significant importance to supply the markets with high quality animal protein consisting of fisheries products. Currently, aquaculture sector faces the problems regarding rapid growth. Concerning the environmental impacts of aquaculture, cages systems have been moved to off shore. This movement imposed the laborers to the dangerous activities and high risk factors. As far as it is possible the subject will be examined comparatively. Today, laborers working in off shore systems are more vulnerable before then they were and in shore aquaculture was not dangerous as it is. On the other hand; to deal with occupational safety and health problems rising due to rapid growth of sector, urgent measures has to be taken. In this context, in the scope of the thesis our purpose is to examine the situation with a comparative study regarding Occupational Health and Safety and risk analysis. Here, we describe patterns in functional beta diversity for New Zealand marine fishes versus depth and latitude, including broad-scale delineation of functional bioregions. We derived eight functional traits related to food acquisition and locomotion and calculated complementary indices of functional beta diver- sity for 144 species of marine ray-finned fishes occurring along large-scale depth (50–1200 m) and latitudinal gradients (29°–51°S) in the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone. We focused on a suite of morphological traits calculated directly from in situ Baited Remote Underwater Stereo-Video (stereo-BRUV) footage and museum specimens. We found that functional changes were primarily structured by depth followed by latitude, and that latitudinal functional turnover decreased with increasing depth. Functional turnover among cells increased with increasing depth distance, but this relationship plateaued for greater depth distances (>750 m).

Stergiou Laboratory of Ichthyology, School of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki 54124, Greece ABSTRACT: Consumer preferences can be influenced by cultural factors, such as recipes. Thus, popular recipes using seafood ingredients could encourage demand for the featured marine spe- cies. We recorded the fish taxa appearing in all online Greek recipes and related the number of recipes in which a taxon is a suggested ingredient to the taxon’s landings and vulnerability to fish- ing. For marine fish, the number of recipes per taxon (henceforth called recipe prevalence) increased significantly with the taxon’s landings. When the effect of landings was removed, recipe prevalence increased significantly with vulnerability to fishing, indicating that more vulnerable taxa appear more frequently in recipes. This pattern should be reversed by eliminating the recipe abundance of taxa that are very vulnerable to fishing and counterbalance such a reduction with an increase in the representation of taxa of low vulnerability, landed in large quantities and cur- rently underrepresented in recipes. Managing recipe composition by educating a small group of stakeholders (i.e. chefs and recipe authors) may be a cost-effective way of promoting fisheries sustainability when compared to directly educating consumers. Many species are likely to have co-evolved with soft-bodied zooplankton groups such as salps 20 and medusae, using them as substrate, for food, shelter or reproduction. Compared to other pelagic 21 groups, such as fish, euphausiids and soft-bodied zooplankton, hyperiid amphipods are poorly studied 22 especially in terms of their distribution and ecology. Hyperiids of the genus Themisto, comprising seven 23 distinct species, are key players in temperate and cold-water pelagic ecosystems where they reach 24 enormous levels of biomass. In these areas, they are important components of marine food webs, and 25 they are major prey for many commercially important fish and squid stocks. In northern parts of the 26 Southern Ocean, Themisto are so prevalent that they are considered to take on the role that Antarctic 1 27 krill play further south.

Paige ABSTRACT Aim To investigate and identify the species found within the little-known larval and juvenile notothenioid fish assemblage of McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, and to compare this assemblage to the well-studied local adult community. Location McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. Methods We extracted genomic DNA from larval and juvenile notothenioid fishes collected from McMurdo Sound during the austral summer and used mitochondrial ND2 gene sequencing with phylogenetic reconstruction to make definitive species identifications. We then surveyed the current literature to determine the adult notothenioid communities of McMurdo Sound, Terra Nova Bay, and the Ross Sea, and subsequently compared them to the species identified in our larval/juvenile specimens. Results Of our 151 larval and juvenile fishes, 142 specimens or 94.0% represented seven species from family Nototheniidae. Only one specimen was not matched directly to a reference sequence but instead was placed as sister taxon to Pagothenia borchgrevinki with a bootstrap value of 100 and posterior probability of 1.0. The nine non-nototheniid specimens represented the following six ii species: Pogonophryne scotti, Pagetopsis maculatus, Chionodraco myersi, Chionodraco hamatus, Neopagetopsis ionah, and Psilodraco breviceps.

Functional biodiversity of New Zealand’s marine fishes versus depth and latitude A thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand Elisabeth Miro Valerie Myers June 2020 i Thesis Abstract Understanding patterns and processes governing biodiversity along broad-scale environmental gradients requires an assessment of not only taxonomic richness, but also morphological and functional traits of organisms. The deep sea is the largest habitat on earth and provides many important ecosystem services. Decreases in light, temperature, and trophic resources, along with increases in pressure that occur with greater depth, renders the deep sea one of the most constraining environments for supporting life. However, little is known about how biodiversity, and especially functional biodiversity, changes along the depth gradient. This thesis aimed to fill this gap by using a combination of traits associated with food acquisition and locomotion to quantify and characterise patterns of functional diversity across large-scale depth and latitude gradients and to investigate potential mechanisms driving biodiversity. First, to identify the major selective forces acting on morphology, I documented patterns of variation in the traits of fishes at broad spatial scales. I found that with increasing depth, fishes, on average, became larger and more elongate, and had a larger oral gape and eye size.
