Castile, NY is home to a “Spirit of the American Doughboy” statue, one of dozens cast in the 1920s to pay homage to American World War I veterans. The Castile statue, cast by sculptor Ernest M. Visquey and dedicated in 1926, is one of three left in the state of New York and one of about only 130 left in the United States. Recently renovated, the statue looks over downtown Castile and serves as a memorial to the soldiers, and sailors who served in the conflict of WWI. Visitors are encouraged to visit the statue and remember the rich history of our area.
