In marking the Baby Jesus pilfered from manger dedication, Mayor Garry Zamzow stated, “There was no debate at the council table over this question. We recognized that the community needed this and that they would want it.” Legion President Iona Johnston noted, “One of our ideas to mark the year of the veteran (2007), was to name this corner in memory of all the veterans who have lived here; for those who spent many hours building our Legion, our cenotaph… and most of all for those who served our country.” Also in November, the community and the Underground Press lost one of its own, when on Thursday November 29, 2007, Ernie Ramstead passed away at the Health Science Centre at the age of 63 years. AROUND TOWN • On the afternoon of Jan 21st, the SnoDrifters Snowmobile Club held thier first Poker Derby of the season. Around 22 sledders braved the cold, taking part. "Not that bad for -28," said the club's Robert Stoupe. The derby course took in 40 miles of trail and at the end of it all, Kim Gogal came through with a hand sporting three kings. Mike Willet showed up with three eights, as did Keith Scott. Kim Gogal was lucky on another front; she also took home the 50/50 draw. Stoupe advises that the club will be out cutting trails in the coming weeks. He says that they are waiting on parts for thier groomer and adds trails are fine other than they could use a little more snow.
