What is the Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint? The Liquid Machines Gateway for Sharepoint extends the native Information Rights Management capabilities of SharePoint. The Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint can be operated in a variety of different rights management configurations. Gateway set-up, management and functionality vary depending on whether or not the implementation includes the Liquid Machines Document Control Server, which provides policy management features and an extended Enterprise Rights Management permission set. Using the Gateway for SharePoint with LMDC Client or LMDC Viewer Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint, working together with the Liquid Machines Document Control Client (LMDC Client) or the Liquid Machines Viewer (LM Viewer) extends ’s Information Rights Management (IRM) by adding support for additional file formats and enhancing the ability to securely collaborate outside of SharePoint. Like the IRM protectors built into SharePoint 2007, the Gateway for SharePoint associates Rights Management Service (RMS) permissions to files when they are checked out of a library or list and removes the protection when the file is uploaded to SharePoint. Using the Gateway for SharePoint with LMDC Server When the Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint is used together with the Liquid Machines Document Control Enterprise Policy Server, all policies generated by the SharePoint will be stored and managed by the LMDC policy server, which provides for additional capabilities: . Documents accessed from SharePoint can be protected with Liquid Machines Advanced Enforcement policies, which include an extended permission set including auditing, the ability to change or remove policy. . Enhanced offline management capabilities which allow users to always have use licenses which allow them to work with content for the specified time disconnected from the network, not from the last time they opened the document. . All IRM permissions including print, can be varied by user or group for each document library. . Changes to SharePoint permissions dynamically update IRM permissions – even for documents already removed from SharePoint.

Installation and Uninstallation Release 2.0 is the second release of this product. All installation and uninstallation information is provided in the Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint Installation and Central Administration Guide. IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE: The Gateway’s installer modifies the SharePoint farm configuration using SharePoint’s “stsadm.exe” configuration tool. In order for the installation to complete successfully, the user account running the installer must be in the SharePoint Farm Administrator’s group. Known Issues This section describes known issues found in Gateway for SharePoint 2.0 release: Gateway for SharePoint 2.0 The following are known issues in Gateway for SharePoint 2.0. Bug Number Description and Workaround (if applicable) 11820 Description: Running installer “repair” causes the installer wizard to fail.

Workaround: Uninstall, then reinstall the product. 11968 Description: “Externally protected” .MHTML/.MHT files cannot be uploaded to SharePoint lists that have IRM enabled.

Workaround: SharePoint checks the integrity (or validity) of certain file types, and a protected .MHTML/.MHT document is not recognized as valid. Users will not be permitted to upload an .MHTML/.MHT file that they protect outside of SharePoint or in another list. .MHTML/.MHT files that are unprotected when uploaded, and protected by the Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint can be re-uploaded to the same SharePoint library without issue. 12029 Description: Installation of Gateway for SharePoint fails on Windows Server 2008 if User Account Control is enabled.

Workaround: Disable UAC during installation, then restart post-install. Please refer to the Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint Installation and Central Administration Guide for complete instructions. 12222 Description: Installation fails and rolls back if the user lacks sufficient SQL Server privileges.

Workaround: Ensure that the installer user has the rights to modify the SharePoint Administrative Content Database (membership in “securityadmin“ and “dbcreators” roles, or full control of the database). Please refer to the Liquid Machines Gateway for SharePoint Installation and Central Administration Guide for complete instructions.

Bug Number Description and Workaround (if applicable) 13297 Description: When using the LMDC Enterprise Policy Server advanced policies together with RMS, policy membership cannot be updated if any member user’s email address in the Active Directory has been deleted.

Workaround: Email addresses are required when using Advanced RMS- based policies on the LMDC policy server. Enter an email address in the Active Directory for such user or remove them from the policy on the Liquid Machines Document Control Server.

LMDC Client 7.2.x The following are known related issues in Liquid Machine Document Control Client 7.2.x which the user may encounter when working with SharePoint. Bug Number Description and Workaround (if applicable) 11778 Description: Liquid Machines does not support Webdav file access of protected Visio documents. Opening Microsoft Visio files directly from SharePoint may fail or cause file corruption.

Workaround: We recommend not saving Visio files in protected SharePoint libraries. If however protected files have been stored in SharePoint, download the files from SharePoint before opening them in the application.

Additional Information Gateway for SharePoint 2.0 In general, SharePoint is very tightly integrated with Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); however integration may not be seamless with other types of files (for example PDF and Visio files). For best results when using SharePoint and Gateway for SharePoint with non-Office files, Liquid Machines recommends that you follow these practices:  There are multiple ways to open (or download) files from SharePoint. If you just want to view published files and make no changes (often the case with PDF files), the files in the SharePoint libraries or lists can be opened in any way.  If you intend to edit files from SharePoint, it is recommended that you always download the file to your computer, edit and save the files on your computer as needed, and then upload the files back to SharePoint. This method results in the most consistent behavior from SharePoint.
