In Frattini’s Grade 9 gym class, Christina Lambrecht and Taryn Donville, both 14, were giggling madly as they practised one of the Dené Games events, the arm pull. It involves locking legs with an opponent’s and then striving to pull one’s adversary over. That was the hope of the teachers involved. “Since it’s happening here in the Grande Prai- rie, it’s something they can go watch,” says Frattini, “We’re trying to get them excited about that.” It seems to be working, he says, “I think they’re pretty excited now that they have some exposure to what’s going to be here.” Teachers will be meeting in February to consider other AWG-related events for the stu- dents. Until then, the purple, blue and green colours decorating their school office will remind the students of the big event coming in March.
