4 17 Keynote Speakers & Special Guests Call to Holiness, Inc. Benefit Dinner • April 25, 2004 Special Guest Speaker - Mr. Richard Thompson Founder & Executive Director of the Law Center

Call to Holiness fifth annual benefit dinner was held at Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit on April 25th, 2004, and it turned out to be a very engaging afternoon. The address was given by Mr. Richard Thompson, founder and executive director of the Thomas More Law Center. The Thomas More Law Center is a public interest law firm His Excellency Phyllis Schlafly Fr. Pablo Straub Dr. John Barkay Teresa Tomeo dedicated to the defense and promotion of the religious freedom of Christians family values, Bishop Emilio and the sanctity of human life. Allué Mr. Thompson is known for his role as Oakland County Prosecutor in which he prosecuted Jack Kevorkian. In a time when politicians determine right and wrong by public opinion polls, Richard Thompson has stood firmly by his conviction that assisted suicide was legally, morally and ethically wrong. Photo Unavailable At the dinner Mr. Thompson again reiterated the Catholic Church’s teachings on the moral issues that are going to face us in this year’s fall election. It is important that we Catholics stand up for what we know and believe to be the truth. We must be a light for others to see and follow. We must stop the evil that has infiltrated into the Catholic Church. This year’s election will determine Jeff Cavins Fr. Louis Fr. John Harvey Bud McFarland Marlene Elwell whether God will allow this to go on or will punish for our failure in letting so much evil work its way into our lives. Guardiola Mr. Thompson converted to Catholicism in 1998. Fr. John Hardon, S.J. baptized and confirmed him at Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit. He and his wife Marilyn have three sons and live in Ann Arbor. Our Special Guests . . . On behalf of Call to Holiness, board members, Fr. Eduard Perrone and staff, we wish to thank Mr. Thompson for giving us an afternoon of vital information regarding our understanding of these moral issues that will face us especially in this year’s election. 6 15 Call to Holiness Youth Conference for 8th – 12th graders “The Power of Prayer” Saturday, October 2, 2004 by our President, Robert Demeniuk With director Leonardo Defilippis and actress Lindsay Younce who stars as Thérèse. The power of prayer has been a common subject throughout the history of the Church. Some- Registration includes private showing of the movie at a local theater. times, though, we forget that prayer is, simply put, “letting go, and letting God.” When the pressures and turmoil of our world exhaust us and we feel that we can’t go on, using that little prayer, “let go and let God” will lift our burdens and free us to give in totally to God’s will.

A friend of mine came to me some time ago and began to unburden her thoughts and anxi- eties onto me to the point that I felt burdened and anxious myself. She was in a dead end job, working long hours for little pay. She was also lonely and longed for companionship and children. After listening to her for a while, I began to realize that she shouldn’t be telling me this - she should be telling God! He is the only One who could help her. I told her to have a good heart talk with Jesus, just as she was talking to me, and to ask Him for His help.

A couple of months later my friend called me and told me excitedly that she had just found the “perfect” job with a substantial increase in pay! She told me that she had followed my advice and, through prayer, her burdens had been lifted and she could carry on with her life. A couple of months later, she called me again and told me that she had UAW-1264 Hall west of Best Western/Sterling Inn the “perfect” man.
