On behalf of everyone connected with Whitley Bay football club. I would like to extend a warm welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Dunstable Town football club. I would also like to welcome the neutral supporters to Hillheads, I am sure you will see a great game of football and hopefully see you back at Hillheads in the future. Whitley Bay’s FA Vase record over the last three seasons has been remarkable. Three semi-finals, two winning appearances at Wembley in 2009 and 2010 to add to our first win at Villa Park in 2002. The first club to win back to back finals at the new Wembley; Paul Chow scoring the fastest goal at the new or old Wembley in 21 seconds; a 6-1 victory, the highest score in a Vase final; Only the second club along with Billericay to have won the FA Vase three times. We have now also equalled another record for the greatest number of consecutive games unbeaten in the FA Vase, twenty one in total. Let’s hope we can break that record today. With the prospect of promotion this may well be our last season in the FA Vase. Whatever the football future holds for Whitley Bay. I am sure all Whitley Bay fans will have many happy memories of our good times in the FA Vase competition. I must also mention the fantastic run of form shown by Whitley Bay reserves under the guidance of Mark Nash. They are second in the first division of the Northern Alliance with two games in hand and have not lost in the league this season so far. On Saturday past they reached the quarter finals of the minor cup. Our Women’s football team are also continuing thier fantastic progress after two promotions in three years and their County Cup Final win over Newcastle United last year. They are currently lying fourth in the league with games in hand on the teams above them. They also reached the second round of the Women’s FA Cup. The reserve team are unbeaten and top of their league with games in hand. I am also extremely pleased with the progress that Gavin Fell and his team coaches are making with our mini soccer and junior sections. A number of our mini soccer players are attending the Newcastle and Sunderland training academies. Gavin gets great support from the coaches of each team and the academy committee. Many of our teams are in challenging positions for honours this season. With 27 football teams at many different age groups Whitley Bay football club is making great progress in all areas of the football community. Finally I would like to thank the club sponsors, vice presidents and the Whitley Bay fans for their continual support for the club. Particular thanks should go to Dave Styles for his tremendous work on the pitch and to all the backroom staff and my fellow directors at the club without whose tireless efforts this match would not be possible.
