Rolex Testimonee Phil Mickelson Captures Second Pga Championship with Historic Win at Kiawah Island NOTE TO MEDIA ROLEX TESTIMONEE PHIL MICKELSON CAPTURES SECOND PGA CHAMPIONSHIP WITH HISTORIC WIN AT KIAWAH ISLAND Kiawah Island, South Carolina, United States, 24 May 2021 - Rolex Testimonee Phil Mickelson has won the 103rd PGA Championship, claiming the iconic Wanamaker Trophy for the second time to become the oldest winner in Major championship history and record his sixth career Major victory. Holding a one-shot lead heading into the final round, Mickelson displayed impressive accuracy and resilience throughout the tournament, attributes that resonate strongly with Rolex’s own pursuit of perpetual excellence in its watchmaking and all other endeavours. In winning this historic Championship, which featured 99 of the world’s top 100 players, the 50-year-old American secured the sixth Major title and 45th PGA TOUR victory of his professional career. He joins an esteemed group of players to have won the PGA Championship more than once including Rolex Testimonees Gary Player (1962, 1972), Jack Nicklaus (1963, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1980), Tiger Woods (1999, 2000, 2006, 2007) and Brooks Koepka (2018, 2019). Following Sunday’s final round, Phil Mickelson, said: “This is an incredible feeling because I just believed that it was possible, but yet everything was saying it wasn’t and I hope that others find that inspiration. It might take a little bit of extra work, a little bit of harder effort to maintain physically or maintain the skills, but gosh, is it worth it in the end, and I am so appreciative to be holding this Wanamaker Trophy.” Renowned for its stunning views of the Atlantic coastline, and the swirling winds and challenging natural features, that place a premium on accurate driving and precise iron play, Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course previously hosted the Championship in 2012 and once again produced four days of exceptional golf. Leading by one-shot after 54 holes, Mickelson closed with a final-round 73 to finish with a six-under-par total of 282, to win by two strokes from the international field. Rolex’s presence as Official Timekeeper and Partner at the PGA Championship is part of its long-standing support for golf that spans more than 50 years. Phil Mickelson adds his name to a long list of Testimonees to have lifted the Wanamaker Trophy, including Gary Player (1962, 1972), Jack Nicklaus (1963, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1980), Tiger Woods (1999, 2000, 2006, 2007), Pádraig Harrington (2008), Martin Kaymer (2010), Jason Day (2015), Justin Thomas (2017) and Brooks Koepka (2018, 2019). end 1/3 ROLEX TESTIMONEE PHIL MICKELSON CAPTURES SECOND PGA CHAMPIONSHIP WITH HISTORIC WIN AT KIAWAH ISLAND noteS to editors ROLEX TESTIMONEE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS Gary Player (1962, 1972) Jack Nicklaus (1963, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1980) Tiger Woods (1999, 2000, 2006, 2007) Phil Mickelson (2005, 2021) Pádraig Harrington (2008) Martin Kaymer (2010) Jason Day (2015) Justin Thomas (2017) Brooks Koepka (2018, 2019) ABOUT ROLEX AND GOLF Rolex is committed to the permanent quest for excellence in all its endeavours and has been a long-term supporter of golf in its pursuit of the same. The brand’s enduring relationship with the sport began more than 50 years ago, in 1967, when Arnold Palmer, joined by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, became the brand’s first golfing Testimonees. Known together as The Big Three, these legendary players changed the face of golf forever, and their partnership with Rolex marked the beginning of a relationship based on the shared commitment to continuous improvement and unwavering precision. Since then, the affiliation has grown and flourished, permeating every level of the game worldwide. From elite players and golf legends, to all the game’s Major championships, where success represents the pinnacle of achievement in the sport, as well as the foremost professional tours and worldwide amateur championships, Rolex is ever-present. In 2021 Rolex further deepened its support by becoming a Worldwide Partner of The Ryder Cup, to act as Official Timekeeper at every iteration of the sport’s pre-eminent team competition. The Swiss manufacturer’s support for the game is built on a strong sense of integrity and respect for tradition that promote the continuity of expertise and transfer of knowledge, and an understanding of the importance of investing in the sport’s development for future generations. ABOUT ROLEX 2/3 ROLEX TESTIMONEE PHIL MICKELSON CAPTURES SECOND PGA CHAMPIONSHIP WITH HISTORIC WIN AT KIAWAH ISLAND An unrivalled reputation for quality and expertise Rolex is an integrated and independent Swiss watch manufacture. Headquartered in Geneva, the brand is recognized the world over for its expertise and the quality of its products – symbols of excellence, elegance and prestige. The movements of its Oyster Perpetual and Cellini watches are certified by COSC, then tested in-house for their precision, performance and reliability. The Superlative Chronometer certification, symbolized by the green seal, confirms that each watch has successfully undergone tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These are periodically validated by an independent external organization. The word “Perpetual” is inscribed on every Rolex Oyster watch. But more than just a word on a dial, it is a philosophy that embodies the company’s vision and values. Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of the company, instilled a notion of perpetual excellence that would drive the company forward. This led Rolex to pioneer the development of the wristwatch and numerous major watchmaking innovations, such as the Oyster, the first waterproof wristwatch, launched in 1926, and the Perpetual rotor self-winding mechanism, invented in 1931. In the course of its history, Rolex has registered over 500 patents. At its four sites in Switzerland, the brand designs, develops and produces the majority of its watch components, from the casting of the gold alloys to the machining, crafting, assembly and finishing of the movement, case, dial and bracelet. PRE-TOURNAMENT INTERVIEW: JACK NICKLAUS GARY PLAYER LEE TREVINO April 19, 2017 DAVE SENKO: I would like to thank everyone for coming today and joining us for our three World Golf Hall of Famers, Lee Trevino, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus. Before we open it up for questions, maybe if you can just share your thoughts on coming back to this Top of the Rock and what a special event this is each year, a team event, playing with guys you played with on tour for many years. LEE TREVINO: Of all the years we've been coming back, I came here to do the press conference when I found out that Johnny Morris and Bass Pro Shops were going to sponsor the Legends. We had not had the Legends for what, four or five years, and we were down in Savannah. And I came here to do the press conference, and it's phenomenal what they've done here. It's absolutely phenomenal. I don't think at the time -- we were looking at Buffalo Ridge and I didn't think at the time we played, Jack and I played there the first year and it was so soggy and everything. I told them they had to take those fairways up and cap them. But he's done a great job here. I think he finally looked at golf and seeing what revenue not only the game could bring him, but the people that he could get to come to this area. I was talking to someone this morning about Johnny Morris and I summed it up like this: I said, you know, there's a lot of people in this country that are extremely wealthy that give their money to charity.
