Symbiosis Law School Pune hosted its annual intra-collegiate fest, Symptoms’, from 21st to 23rd September 2016. The Opening Ceremony of Symptoms 2016, not only introduced the unique theme of ‘Bounty Hunters’, but also unveiled the event ‘Most Wanted’, where the participants are to assess the strategic clues and solve them to discover the identity of Mr. X. Every student who wins an event at Symptoms is to get an exclusive clue, their very own ‘bounty’, to help them piece together the identity of the enigmatic Mr. X. To add to the excitement, the boy and girl who win the most events through the fest will bag the titles of Mr. and Ms. Symptoms.

A whopping number of around 250 students took part in 16 widely varied events that took place on Day 1 of Symptoms from 4 PM to 7:30 PM. The events included- Mono Acting, Mad Ads, Face Painting, Hogathon, Vice Quiz, Debate, Stress Interview, Creative Writing, Graphic Designing, Chess, Carom, Table Tennis, Solo Singing, Word Games, Extempore and Business Idea. The event that attracted the maximum participation of a staggering 100 contestants was the innovatively structured Stress Interview event. All through the festive evening, the college was flooded with students, as the scintillating buzz of debates, songs, and laughter filled the corridors.

After a stellar day 1, expectations were high for the second day of Symptoms 2016 which kick started at 4 PM at Symbiosis Law School Pune. ‘Bounty Hunters’ as the theme of this year’s fest spread like wildfire amongst thestudents, and the corridors were aflame with the vibrant colours of innumerable posters; the poster on Suicide Squad in particular soaring to number one on the popularity chart. Screams and laughter filled the college, as students rushed to and fro from the myriad events which catered to every possible desire.

The fest reached its finale on Friday, 23'd September. This day was reserved for the informal events, i.e., Newspaper Dance, Antakshari, Dog and the Bone, Arm Wrestling and the highly anticipated grand reveal of the identity of Mr. X and Mr. & Ms. Symptoms. All Bounty Hunting Activities of the final day spanned from 4 PM to 7 PM.

After a whirlwind of excitement Symptoms 2016 came to a close with the valedictory ceremony held at 7:30 PM in the Multipurpose Hall. An eloquently worded introductory speech was given by Mr. Adarsh Kumar, Head, Extracurricular Cell, in which he declared that Symptoms 2016 had proved to be bigger and better than ever before. In her welcome address, Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Fiilbriglit Scholar, Director, SLS, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, SIU, expressed her delight at the ingenuity of events, with special mention to the soJahisticated art and photogra h exhibition put up. She concluded by drawing upon her personal experience to emphasize the importance of nurtu ri• s talent in a wide range of activities. Dr. Gurpur commended the enthusiasm of the students in both organizing and taking part in a multitude of events.

This was followed by the prize distribution to the deserving winners of all the events. Mr. Abhay Thukral and Ms. Anushree Capoor bagged the titles of Mr. and Ms. Symptoms and Division ‘E’ was declared the best class, based on the most number of participants and winners. In addition, Mr. Ashar Rai Mujeeb stepped out of the shadows and revealed his identity as Mr.X.

The Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. Ameya Dadich, Head, Extra Curricular and Co Curricular Committee.

Ganesh Gupte, Balaji Law College, Pune won the competition with cash prize worth Rs. 5,000/- . Anusha Rao of SLS-P and Aashrita Sachdev from University came second and third with cash prizes worth Rs. 3,000/- & Rs. 2,000/- respectively. Dr. Aparajita Mohanty, Associate Professor, SLS-P gave the vote of thanks.

Respected Madam,

The Extra Curricular Cell in collaboration with the International Cell of Symbiosis Law School, Pune has been assigned with the responsibility of conceptualising and arranging a cultural event on 10" December, 2015 to welcome a contingent of 17 Australian students along with 2 accompanying faculty members from Deakin University, Australia.

The objective of the program will be to showcase the traditions, heritage and the rich cultural and ethnic diversities of India, and the members of the Cell have convened and decided upon a list of tentative events to display the same.

Through the one hour thirty minutes programme, students of the college shall exhibit a variety of traditional and contemporary performances for our guests. The events are as follows:

However, changes in the table program might be made in due process of time, which we shall- keep the administration of the college updated with.

Students of the college shall begin with preparations at the earliest for the said events, upon approval of this proposal. We shall be calling upon Extra Curricular Cell members to make the programme a grand and commendable success. Hence, we require your permission to commence with preparations for the performances planned for this event. The preparations

will take place on designated dates as per the different performances, and shall be overseen by the Faculties-in-Charge of the Cell as well as senior Student Representatives.

We implore your approval for our endeavour at the earliest, and support us to make it a success. Attached herewith is the tentative budget for the entire programme. Further details shall be initiated to you at the earliest upon commencement of preparations for the programme.

Law Theatre 2016

Symbhav 2016 will be the eighth edition of the student cultural festival of Symbiosis Law School, Pune. 5ymhhav saw its humble beginnings in February 2009. The fest since then has received an overwhelming response from colleges across the country and lfas gone on to become one of the most appreciated cultural fests in Pune and among law schools throughout the country.

"The fest is scheduled to be held on the 26"', 27"' and the 28'h of February, 2016 at the New X'iman Nagar Campus of Symbiosis Law School, Pune.

While holding true to traditions, the aspiring lawyers of SLS, Pune will be showcasing their artistic sides in the form of ‘Law Theatre’, as part of the inaugural ceremony. Law Theatre is a unique concept that devolves around the dissemination of legal knowledge through the medium of theatre. Past editions included monumental depictions such as the‘Tilak Trial’, ’Merchant of Venice’ and the’Nanavati Trial’. This year, we are proud to present ‘The Great Trial’, the script of which has akeady been appro ed by Padma Bhushan, Dr.S.B Mujumdar. The play is an enactment of Mahatma Gandhi’s trial for sedition in 1922, while also serving as a commentary on the Indian Independence Struggle.

As a part of the opening ceremony, the students shall also showcase the ‘The Great Trial’ which is an enthralling enactment of Mahatma Gandhi’s trial for sedition in 1922, as a part of the Law Theatre.

Extra-Curricular Cell Report

The Extra Curricular Cell of the college is the prime student body that regulates extra- curricular activities in the institution from a student outlook. Working in close consonance with the committee, the cell acts as a wider general body that aims to ensure that students of the college are participative towards of extracurricular activities. The cell acts as the skeletal body for the various contingents that represent the college in other college fests. The cell conducted its recruitment interviews for the academic year 2015-16 on the 19th & 20th of August 2015. The interviews were conducted by the head, Rohan Thomas,co-head, Adarsh Kumar ,Extra Curricular Committee head, R Maya, Professor Jaisy George and Professor Vanisree Ramanthan The applicants were asked a multitude of diverse questions, aimed at testing their ability to handle pressure, enumerate their creative skills, challenging communication skills. The applicants were selected on basis of their impromptu responses to these questions. Cell members are required to be able to balance academic obligations with cell duties and all these abilities were keenly looked into by the interviewers. After two days of rigorous interviewing, Forty Eight new members were inducted into the cell. The total number of members for the new academic year is Fifty Nine. The cell has had an exceptionally successful start to the year with victories adorning the college’s name in many outstation and in-city fests. The college contingent for Malhar, St. Xaviers’, Mumbai’s annual cultural fest won the prestigious prize of the best outstation contingent. The college also won the award for the best performance in literary arts. Winners of the JAM event, Runners up in Extempore and Stage Play, Second runners up in JAM and Quiz were a few among many other prizes that the college secured.

Following up, the college won the first prize and the NLS theatre fest and then the runners up trophy at the dance competition at , Pune. The college also secures the third prize at the general quiz at Pulzion, Pune Institute of Computer Technology’s annual fest.

The Cell was also actively involved in organizing Symptoms this year with the feedback from the students being very positive and particularly the unique concepts like Cosplay and Mock Simulation receiving praise for their innovative nature. Another standout achievement this year along with the theatre success has been the unparalleled success of the dancers this year placing in the dance competitions at ‘Impulse’ and ‘Troika’ this academic year, both being local festivals. One of the highlights for the cell this year was the annual Law Theatre event. The cell handled the production with a number of its members even participating as actors. This year’s play was based on The Gandhi Sedition Trial and was written and directed by the esteemed Mr Anindya Shankar Das from FTII. The play was staged at the opening ceremony of Symbhav and received rave reviews from the audience. The cell was also involved in four events at Symbhav panning music and drama. In light of the new success, the cell aims to expand its functionality and ensure that more and more students start participating in extracurricular activities and start representing the college even more at a national level. With the positive year the cell had we are hope to strive towards ensuring that the name of the college remains at the top of the charts, on a country-wide scale, when it comes to extracurricular activities.
