The Touched Need Protection on HBO's 'The Nevers'

In August 1896, Victorian experiences a supernatural event that gives certain people -- mostly women -- strange, new abilities. Called "The Touched" by society, their powers threaten those around them, putting them in danger.Â

Widow Amalia (Laura Donnelly) and young inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) go to work to try and shelter and protect these "orphans" of the new world, but brutal external forces seek to annihilate them wherever they hide.

Besides Donnelly and Skelly, the cast also features as wealthy benefactress Lavinia Bidlow; James Norton as Hugo Swann, rich proprietor of a den of iniquity; Tom Riley as Lavinia's younger brother Augie; as high-ranking government official Lord Gilbert Massen; Ben Chaplin as Inspector Frank Mundi; Denis O'Hare as deranged doctor Edmund Hague; Amy Manson as murderous Maladie who derives her power from pain; Rochelle Neil as fire-wielding Annie Carby; Zackary Momoh, as orphanage doctor Horatio Cousens; Eleanor Tomlinson as performer Mary Brighton; Elizabeth Berrington as streetwise Lucy Best, Anna Devlin as the very tall Primrose Chattoway and Nick Frost as criminal overload Declan "Beggar King" Orrun, among others.

Part one of The Nevers is composed of six episodes premiering April 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. Part two will debut at a date to be determined.
