Conley (1979) State, head football coach Kenny Phillips College: Chowan JC (1981) has become the Broncos’ all-time win East Carolina (1985) leader and the first coach to win three CIAA Postgraduate: East Carolina (1987) Championships.

In 2009 Phillips, the CIAA’s Coach of the Year, guided FSU to its third NCAA Division PLAYING EXPERIENCE: II playoff appearance. FSU posted a 16-4 D.H. Conley H.S. (1976-79) combined record and a .800 winning Chowan JC (Linebacker - 1979-81) percentage 2008-09. The Broncos’ 16 wins East Carolina (Linebacker - 1981-83) are the second most in two seasons in school history. FSU has won seven or more games five times since 2002. COACHING EXPERIENCE Phillips took over at FSU in 2000 and lost 1984-85 Student Assistant/Outside Linebackers, East his first game to Benedict College 19-20 but Carolina won his second, 32-26, against conference 1985-87 Graduate Assistant/Defensive Ends, East Carolina foe Elizabeth City State. FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State Broncos fell to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls RALEIGH, NC – In a game of must-win for Fayetteville State, the Broncos offense stalled as Saint 35-18 on Saturday afternoon in front of 3,173 fans at Luther “Nick” Jeralds Stadium. Running back Augustine’s University (5-3 overall, 3-2 CIAA) can now celebrate their Homecoming with a 34-28 Colon Bailey, Jr. (Jr., Manteo, NC) rushed for a career-high 129 yards and two touchdowns for the triple overtime victory. Fayetteville State, facing its third chance of winning the game, put the ball in Colon Bailey’s hand. His first attempt carried the Broncos from the 25-yard line to the 17.A missed assignment stopped the ball at the 20 and left five yards needed for a first down.

Two incomplete passes later, the Falcons rushed the field to spark the post-game celebrations.

Although a stalemate at intermission, the Broncos moved the ball better than the Falcons. FSU produced 112 yards of total offense on 33 plays. Hudson was 6-of-13 in pass completions for 58 yards. The ground game had 54 yards on 20 carries. Colon Bailey had a net 48 of those yards.

The Broncos defense held Saint Augustine’s to less than half of its total offense. The Falcons finished the first half with 52 yards on 25 plays. The running game had 27 yards on 15 carries while QB Teddy Bacote completed half of his ten passes for 25 yards. Laughinghouse pulled in three passes for 19 yards.

James started his coaching career in 1983 as an assistant at North Caroline High School in Denton, Maryland before moving to Washington & Lee High School in Montross, Virginia in 1984 where he worked as an assistant football coach until 1986.

In 1986, James started his career at Goldsboro High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina as an assistant. In 1988, James was named the head coach of the Cougars. He guided the team to the state playoffs in only his second year, a feat he reached a total of nine times in his tenure at Goldsboro.

In 1994 and 1995, James won the Mid-Eastern 4A State Championship with the Cougars which garnered him the Mid-Eastern 4A Coach of the Year award both seasons. In 1996, the USA Today Weekend Magazine named James "The Most Caring Coach in America."

James left Goldsboro High School in 2000 to return to his alma mater of Elizabeth City State University as the offen- sive line coach. After two years at ECSU, James returned to Goldsboro where he coached the Cougars for two more seasons.

Elizabeth City State called on James again in 2003 to be the assistant coach, offensive line coach and lead recruiter. After the 2005 season James again returned to the high school ranks as he coached the offensive line at John A. Holmes High School in Edenton, North Carolina for one season. From 2007 until his hiring at Livingstone, James worked as the Assistant to the Athletic Director at Elizabeth City State.

CREDENTIAL REQUESTS Credential requests are taken via e-mail. Please e-mail Adrian Ferguson ([email protected]). Requests must be made by 5 p.m. on the Monday of game week. Media attending games will have to show ID and pass through security to enter Luther “Nick” Jeralds Stadium. Any misuse of credentials will result in removal from LNJS and the permanent voiding of the credential.

DAILY INTERVIEWS Only Coach Phillips and assistant coaches are available for interviews after practice. The first 30 minutes of practice are open to photographers unless otherwise noted. Players are only available for Wednesday during the weekly luncheon. Every effort will be made to accommodate player requests on Wednesday.

PLAYER INTERVIEWS Under no circumstances should media members contact a FSU student-athlete without prior consent and approval from the FSU Sports Information Office and/or football coach Kenny Phillips. The same policy applies to the family members of student athletes.
