2013 WAC Top Storylines Players to Watch Today’s Starter - Andrew Boes Andrew Boes is just a redshirt freshman, earning his first innings of his career for Texas State against Bay- Dallas Baptist lor Tuesday night. Boes hails from Austin, Texas where he played at Stephen F. Austin High School. Boes Boomer Collins - OF, R/R, 5-11, 202, R-Sr. played for head coach Glenn Bacak and was named all-district first team as a pitcher. He also earned aca- Cy Sneed - RHP, R/R, 6-4, 197, So. demic all-district honors and was an AISD Trustee Scholard. The redshirt freshman graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. He is majoring in finance. TEXAS STATE Kyle Finnegan - RHP, R/R, 6-2, 180, Jr. 2012 Recap Morgan Mickan - OF, L/R, 6-1, 205, Sr. The Bobcats began the season strong with a 14-6 record through the team’s first 20 games, the second best 20-game start to a season since Harrington took over in 2000. The start helped catapult Texas State up to New Mexico State No. 20 in the Baseball America rankings, the highest since the program began in 1985, and No. 30 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. Adam Mott - RHP, R/R, 6-5, 240, Sr. Parker Hipp - INF, L/R, 6-2, 200, Sr. Partially responsible for the strong start was the Bobcat pitching staff, which set program records and made a run at a longtime NCAA record. Texas State hurlers did not allow a run over 57 2/3 consecutive innings, Sacramento State a streak spanning seven games from Feb. 25 to March 6. The Bobcats set the team record for scoreless Rhys Hoskins - UTI, R/R, 6-4, 225, So. innings and consecutive shutouts (5) and came up just 6 1/3 innings shy of the NCAA record of 64 consecu- Andrew Ayers - INF, R/R, 5-11, 200, Sr. tive scoreless innings set in 1972 by Arizona State. The streak a win against No. 18 TCU, a series sweep of Notre Dame and a victory over No. 4 Rice. CSU Bakersfield Carl Brockmeyer - C/1B, R/R, 6-5, 220, Jr. The Bobcats’ win over No. 4 Rice was one of six wins the team had against ranked opponents during the Jonathan Montoya - P, L/L, 5-7, 157, R-Sr. season. Texas State also defeated preseason No. 37-ranked Wichita State along with No. 18/No. 19 TCU twice and No. 16 Oregon twice. UT Arlington Johnny Bench Award Ryan Walker - SS, L/R, 6-1, 170, Jr. Senior catcher Andrew Stumph is a legitimate candidate to win the Johnny Bench Award this season. Last John Beck - RHP, R/R, 6-3, 197, Jr. year he was the fourth leading hitter on the team, batting .253, while starting 48 of 49 games played. Louisiana Tech Stumph tallied 44 hits, 10 doubles, three home runs and 28 RBI en route to scoring 19 runs. He walked 19 Phil Maton - RHP, R/R, 6-3, 200, So. times on the season and registered a .979 fielding percentage. Ryan Gebhardt - INF, R/R, 5-11, 195, Jr.

This season Stumph may start at first base to begin the year, but he should have ample opportunity to UTSA make his case to be the best Division I catcher in the NCAA. Riley Good - OF, L/R, 6-0, 185, Jr. Lemke Moves to Closer Daniel Rockett - OF, R/R, 6-2, 200, Sr. Hunter Lemke has assumed the role of closer for Texas State this season. While Lemke only pitched 21.2 innings last season, he put up an earned run average of just 1.25, the lowest on the team. He struck out San Jose State 15 batters and only gave up 15 hits and three earned runs in 2012 while holding opponents to just a .205 Matt Lopez - IF/OF, L/L, 5-11, 200, Jr. batting average. Nick Schulz - OF, R/R, 6-3, 220, Sr.

In 2013, Head Coach Ty Harrington will call on him to close, saying “He’s grown into our closer. He has the Seattle U weapons, both physically and emotionally, to earn the big, tough outs in tense moments. Brian Olson - C, R/R, 6-0, 190, So. Nate Roberts - INF, R/R, 5-9, 180, Sr. Team Regains Pulse Last season centerfielder Morgan Mickan went down to injury sliding home against Rice, but he begins this season fully recovered and ready to go.

Mickan will most likely lead off for the Bobcats and is described by Head Coach Ty Harrington as “the pulse of the team.” Western Athletic Conference Standings WAC Overall Team Record Pct Home Away Streak Record Pct Home Away Neutral Streak UTSA 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 4-0 1.000 4-0 0-0 0-0 W4 UT Arlington 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 3-0 1.000 3-0 0-0 0-0 W3 CSU Bakersfield 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 2-1 .667 2-1 0-0 0-0 L1 San Jose State 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 2-1 .667 2-1 0-0 0-0 L1 New Mexico State 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 2-2 .500 2-2 0-0 0-0 W1 Sacramento State 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 1-2 .333 0-0 1-2 0-0 L1 Seattle U 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 1-2 .333 0-0 1-2 0-0 W1 TEXAS STATE 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 1-2 .333 1-2 0-0 0-0 L1 Dallas Baptist 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 0-3 .000 0-3 0-0 0-0 L3 Louisiana Tech 0-0 .000 0-0 0-0 - 0-3 .000 0-0 0-3 0-0 L3
